Back to the Outhouse

November 12, 2012:

Well it’s been quite a while since I’ve updated my blog, and I apologize for that, but as we all know, real life has a penchant for getting in the way of the things we want to do most. So with that said I’ll get to the first update, which is the Outhouse.

I used simple craft paint Ceramcoat by Delta in combinations of blue, brown and grey to give the house a weathered look. I also used my Dremel to distress the roof, base and sides of the house by carving nicks and holes in the wood. I also added a wagon wheel to lean up against the side of the house. I took the Dremel and cut out some of the spokes to give it a broken look and added Reindeer Moss to the sides and top of the building. After getting a look at it I’ve decided that I need to change the color of the wheel and turn it dark brown so there is more contrast against the color of the house. I’ve also decided to change the kind of moss I have on the building and I’ll be using dark green Foliage Clusters from Woodland Scenics.

I’ll be updating the photos as soon as I make the adjustments.

My second update is for the lamps. I took scraps of wooden dowels and cut them down to the size of coach lamps. Using my Dremel I drilled holes through the bottom to hold the GOR bulb and through the sides to let the light escape. I painted the dowel black and attached a small eyelet screw in the top as a hanging ring. I then inserted the bulb with attached extended wire and plug and secured the wire to the base of the lamp with a bit of Aleene’s tacky glue.
