More chairs (what I was doing instead of making books)
Well I did get a number of "books" made for the roombox but I got sidetracked! (It will take many books to fill up those roombox shelves...)
I wanted to see if I could make a little couch and I am pretty pleased with the result. I based it on the chair patterns, making a few adjustments for height and curvature. All these pieces were made with 1/8" balsa because I was running out of 3/32"; I prefer 3/32" though because it is easier to work with. The legs were made from square dowel (comes in a variety pack at Walmart) which I dremeled on two sides and fit into place (I painted and sealed these legs; the dowel wood does not take stain well).
I wish I knew what this cloth is! I think I got it in the Walmart cloth scrap bin some years ago. I tested it out before I made the first chair, snipping it and gluing it to a scrap piece of wood to see how it would do, and I had figured that because of its loose weave that it would fray too badly, but it is very manageable and even "moldable", takes glue well (almost instantly) and is very forgiving of stray glue (absorbs and doesn't show). I think it must be 100% cotton (it almost seems like the type of fabric that one uses to embroider, except not nearly as stiff), but I wish I knew what the type of fabric is called so I can find more of it!
