dad's dollhouse

My dad passed away today. There is so much i don't know about him and probably never will. He was a very private man and it was hard for him to share information about himself. I found something about him today that i never knew. 40 some odd years ago, my mother asked him to build her a dollhouse. He did. Well, a rough basic shell at any rate. I found out about it today. I had never heard the story before. I had never laid eyes on the dollhouse. As I walked up to his house this evening in the dark and rain, i saw a dollhouse sitting next to the trashcan on the driveway. When i went into the house, I made a beeline for my brother and asked him in an excited voice, "is THAT a dollhouse outside!!!!!??????". He confirmed that it was and told me the story about it's life. It has been sitting outside in the elements between 2-3 months. I just knew i had to have it. to finish it off and improve it and decorate it. To finish something that my dad started. Now that i see it in the light, I'm understanding what a task and undertaking that would be! It's pretty icky and the window holes are crooked. etc...but i think that after the house dries out i can get a better look at how bad off it really is. i know that a bleach solution is great for mold and bacteria. i hope that is all it will take. It obviously is missing an opening for a doorway. it would be so fun to fix this ole girl up. to add a front porch (covered), straighten up the window openings, put siding on it (or stucco).., shingles...well to finish off what my dad started. boy i know that most people would look at it and see a piece of junk, but i think it has to be finished. i' sure would hate to tear it apart after its humble beginnings and its long life. So i include some photos so you can see what it is i have, and hoping with me, that once it dries out, it will be something worth saving.

I saw this on the forum and had to check it out. This isn't as bad as I was thinking and totally savable. Give me hope for the one I have my grandfather started back in the late 40's. I may have to haul it out now.
