Trim and such.

Well I got the third coat of paint on and dried, and meanwhile I primed and sanded and painted up all the horizontal and vertical trim. I installed the horizontal trim with much clamping-- some of the pieces didn't quite square up, thicker at one end and so on... I started to go through the vertical trim and it started to dawn on me that I needed to finish the porch and kitchen bay roofs before I could finish the verticals...

I thought about this for a while and today I stopped at the hardware store over lunch break and picked up some 50-grit sandpaper; I put some on the porch roof to see how it looks:

I can deal with the seam-- I'll dry-brush some paint on it... I am pretty happy with it, and I think I'll cover the bays as well as the mansard roof tops with it. Hubby says I should shingle and flash the bays but I think I like this sandpaper better.

During my musing about how to deal with the bays, I came across my first feature of the consequences of installing siding first:

The roof pieces are a bit big for the space now and won't lie nicely because of the added width of the siding... The left bay roof (l) can probably be squeezed into that space with minimal paring-down, but the front bay roof ® will need a sixteenth or so taken off the corners...

Another consequence is that the vertical trim in particular is more difficult to tack down; I have had an end or two popping off already...
