glencroft rehab

I picked up the Glencroft last night for 10 dollars. It needs alot of work and was put together with hot glue. I don't know how far i will go to tear it apart since the "stucco" on the outside is unusual and hard. I don't know if i can replicate it or not. This morning i'm feeling that when i do start on it, i may tear the basic structure apart and start fresh. I just don't know at this point.

I think the shingles will be fairly easy to remove. The person who built the house, glued the shingles in rows, (didn't break them into individual shingles), first they glued the rows onto what appears to be brown paper sacks and then glued this down with just a little hot glue. The little bit i tried to break off last night came off fairly easily.

I popped all the interior window surrounds with no effort. I think removing the actual windows will be a little bit harder. I will need to replace all of the acetate, it's either missing or broken.

Overall, the house appears to have been dropped, that is why i'm even thinking about totally taking it apart. The two side walls are loose at the bottom edges and the top front gable is pushed backward into the house, giving it an uneven look on the outside. I'm just really thinking that the whole house is probably out of wack even tho it does seem solid over all. The front window panel is coming apart. I just think all of this is the result of the house being dropped. Now that i'm thinking about it, i may just take off the exterior trim and cover the "stucco" with something else. It's on pretty thick and is a hard consistency, I don't know how easy it would be to sand it off. I was planning on painting over the exterior trim anyway cuz it's a hideous color, but just taking it off may be a great idea and just making my own textured exterior. hmmmmm. now i'm just getting the image of taking the house and just using the shell and totally redoing the windows as well, a complete replacement instead of taking each apart to replace the acetate ....maybe i'll add an extension off the kitchen....

This will be a fun and interesting project!
