Day Nine - 07-02-05

Jimmy has been preparing the exterior of the house to be painted, and has been preparing the interior of the house to be wallpapered. He has used a combination of wood putty and caulk on both the exterior and interior. He has the bay window on, and mostly all of the walls are in, except for the roof. Here's what we've done today:Now I have to do some staining, painting and wallpapering!Compliments of LPCullen

Day Eight - 06-30-05

I finally get to play a little. I have gotten all of my ceiling beams stained, and I have put my "textured" ceilings in -- meaning I have used real wallpaper that looks like a popcorn ceiling texture for the ceilings. Here's how it turned out.Compliments of LPCullen

I am Done

I have been finished for a few days now. When these pictures were taken, the kitchen did not have the stone floor finished yet but I will update it later. I have added paperclay to the complete base of the house and added trim around the doorways. I am VERY pleased at how this house has turned out. My houses NEVER end up looking the way I imagine it to look in the begining. The finished product has left me very happy. The hardest part was adding the beams and the next hard part for me was doing

Adding the Paint

I have been painting the paperclay today and it looks like I will meet my deadline of being finished tomorrow!! It is amazing how the paint really brings the details out in this wonderful house!! When I added the door yesterday, I did not even glue it in cause I wanted to just "see" if it would fit. Ha, ha, Ha! I can't get the darn thing out at all!! So it is there for good. My beautiful Dolls came in from Margaret. I had to add them because they look perfect by the stone work. I took thes

Day Five, after two days off

I took some time off from building to get reacquainted with my family. Fortunately they still recognized me I decided to hinge the Outer Left wall so I could access the stairs. I wanted to be able to hang pictures on those walls and leave some toys on the stairs. I also have a Borrower's scene planned for underneath the stairs. I guess I am keeping the house B) I'm almost finished installing the beams. They are taped in place, in case I have to remove them when I finish the exterior. I d

Unpainted But Finished?

I am finished with the basic construction of the house. I have finished my paperclay shingles and stained and assembled the front door and windows. I will not use the fence pieces that came with the house because the paper clay threw off the dimensions of it and I may use iron fences instead. I also LOVED the design of the plastic windows that came with this house, but I wanted a lead look so I scanned them into my computer and changed the color of the lines to black

finished

Well I have come to the end of my Glencroft build. it was a challenging kit but in the end the results definitely was worth all the frustrations. one of the things besides the outside of the house that makes this house so nice is the staircase. I love how it is incorporated into the house.this house would very definitely make a nice tavern I am not done decorating and as I have another house to build I am stopping at the finish of the build. I had a lot of troubles with my windows...all my fa

Day Four...I think

Finishing off the fireplaces. I liked the idea of a shaped hearth, so I turned the hearth piece around so the shaped part projected into the room. I used a granite image on both the hearth and mantel. I couldn't figure out how the extra trim pieces for the fireplace went, so I used them to frame the bookcase. Still need to add a wood strip to the edge of the stairs. That will be one of the last things I do. I upgraded the staircase railings because the kit pieces kept crumbling on me. The

Finished tub of so-so spackle on the interior, one of the "stones" fell off the chimney before putting it away, will touch-up next time. Completed "marbling" bathroom floor & sealed it with clear nail polish. I painted the walls using Benjamin Moore sample pots, the upper half a golden-yellow & the lower half a dark tangerine, two coats. I made an embossed decoration under the right wall window using ornamental themed buttons from Hobby Lobby and used embossed sticker

Assembled prestained doors using chamois strip hinges (see havanaholly's Arthur blog). I glued the trim to one side of the door & clamped to set. I clamped the trim to the other side of the door & sanded the hinge side smooth & even. I removed the trim and applied glue & chamois strips, applied glue to trim and clamped to set. I installed door hardware to hinge side of the doors. Shopping note: DH found scale champagne bottle candles.complements of havanaholly

Resting up after late night (blues show) I set up outside. I installed fireplace & firebox sides & rear chimney wall. I spackled the partition & interior front walls of snug after masking doors & lower partition wall. I noted a 1/8" difference in width between front door trim & interior door trims. I spackled the inside of left rear wall (may have to chip off some for window frames). Began "marbling" bathroom "flagston

After 9 days on the road a "quiet" day in Vicksburg, MS, Glencroft came out from under the camper bed & the kit box from under a dinette bench. I've decided this kit wants to be a pub & DH suggests calling it "Sprig of Holly".I masked the window edges & lower walls of the bar & snug for later wainscotting.I assembled & installed the bookcase & stairs.Spackled fireplace wall in the bar & carved "stones" into the fireplace surround & installed the mantle. I stained the stairs, trim & doors (on the plywood sheets) with oak water-based stain. I made the hearths by masking off the floor area, spreading spackle & carved "stones".I separated the front yard & fencing sheets to leave at home, since there's no room in the RV camper. I packed the non-assembled plywood parts into the box for completion on the road.complements of havanaholly

Day Three

I worked my tail off, but have little to show for it since it was mostly finishing type work. Here I am assembling the staircase and priming the wall for painting. This is the brick paper I am using inside the fireplaces. The wall is primed, textured and painted and the stairs have been carpeted with felt. The felt made for excellent carpeting, I was surprised because I wasn't sure how it would look. I still need to finish off the outer edge. The bookcase

Day Two

I didn't accomplish as much as I hoped. I spent alot of time waiting for glue and or paint to dry. I'm also discovering some misplaced ownership pangs developing as the house begins to take shape. I had decided originally that I wouldn't keep this house, buuut I'm becoming attached. Maybe I do have a dollhouse addiction, there's always room for one more This piece popped right in, that made me glad B) That bottom left window gave me fits until I real

Day One

Here I have my wall plastered and floors finished. I'm finishing the interior as I go along so I won't have to go back and try to paint and paper. The kitchen floor is hand painted with a crackle effect, the living room floor is stained rosewood. Here I am working on steps 4 through 7 in part A. I forsee problems with the "tack glue" approach recommended in the directions. Interior center partition plastered and in place (step 8 of A) &#

It's here!

I didn't think it would happen to me, but here I am building a Glencroft. After shoveling off my work area, I did the usual "checking the parts" against the list. I was very pleased to see that shingles were included. They usually are with Greenleaf but for some reason I didn't think this kit did. Maybe that's because I've never seen anyone actually use the shingles. I also think the doors on this house are very pretty, so I plan to accentuate them as much as possible. I have a small work

slow progress

well I havent been blogging or working on miniatures very much. but I have had a few good days....havent been feeling well since 4th of July. but I have been making steady progress doing all those tedious things like sanding windows!and trim beams and it all has to be stained...I wonder if my hands will ever look normal? :o and than of course dont forget the endless nutti touchups. I cannot paint in one color without getting it on another and than that has to be touched up.....never ending cyc

I have started adding the paperclay to the roof. It is a little easier than doing the individual shingles. This is the picture of the first part I started:Everything looks pretty plain when it is not painted, doesn't it?Complements of My Mini Shop

More Stones & Clay

I am so behind on blogging that today I promise to get everything up to date!! I have been delayed because I ordered lights for this house and I kept getting the wrong ones even after we found out that the item number has changed. Well, after getting the wrongs ones 3 times, I kept them and decided to paint them from there shiney brass color to black. I used paint that people use for the car models. Once I got passed that, I was able to move on because I did not know where to hide the wires if I
