THE HAUNTED HOUSE

I wanted to accomplish a few things with this project. First, I wanted to tackle weathering and lighting (two new realms for me). The second was clear when I saw the arched doorway on the project building - I wanted to do an homage to dark rides, and could picture the carts coming out one door and entering the second (hence two were ordered - and severely bashed).

I did a lot of research and decided of all the dark rides the best of them all was the one I've grown up with since I started going to Ocean City, MD when I was three... The Haunted House at Trimper's Amusements on the boardwalk. For spacing purposes, I redesigned the lobby but kept much to the original design. If you'd like to see the actual ride, it's here.

The wood work slats, shingles and designs are all either cut from balsa wood or carved from clay. The lighting was fun, but hard to photograph! I had a blast making it, but I think my DD will be glad to have her mother back!
