starting to look like a house!

December 3rd. I accomplished alot this weekend!!! Starting in the dining room, I completed the angled wall as well as closing in the ceiling portion that had just a beam hanging there. I like the feel that it gives the room now that it's closed off. The wallpaper that i chose for that room turned out to be a mistake. I couldn't decide between it and the darker green. I settled for the lighter green because the pattern was different (the darker green has the exact pattern as the hallway wallpaper)...in the end i don't like the lighter paper because now that it's up on the walls, it has a bluish cast. It seriously looks like institutional green. Yuck. :) It doesn't look so great with the red either....so later this week on my next day off, i'll be replacing it with the darker green.

So, a little difficulty last night lining up the 3rd floor divider with the tower walls. it was 1/4 inch higher. In the end I had to cut 1/8 inch off of the top of the 2nd floor divider and also the 3rd floor divider....so then i had to shave an 1/8 inch off of the other 2nd floor divider cuz it had a hump in the floor. This solved the problem with the tower wall but now the 3rd floor has a sag/slope in it. Oh well...i'm just owing it up to being an older home :) I don't know where I initially went wrong, but i wasn't gonna take the house apart and start again! I hope this has resolved the problem and there won't be any problems down the road from my little "repairs".

On the 3rd floor, i made a doorway for the bathroom, and replaced the end piece of the doorway on the troublesome 3rd floor divider. It wasn't meeting the floor anyway, but it was also quite warped so it just didn't look right. I'm happy the i fixed it...okay so i was trying to force the warp out of it by sheer strength...I won....lol...but it was an opportunity really and not a mistake. I'm so much happier with the replacement piece!

Yesterday I totally made another wall divider piece for the hallway (the larger piece was terribly warped and i didn't want to mess with trying to de-warp it) out of 1/8 inch plywood. That stuff is tough to cut with an exacto knife. I need to invest in a good utility knife! I'm very happy with the results, it's so straight now!!!!!

I also polyurethaned the staircases and railings X 2 yesterday. The wood looks a little rough as a result, but i couldn't sand between coats. The railings will cover up the roughest areas anyway. The poly really brought out the red in the red oak stain! It looks so pretty! red oak is now my favorite stain color! move over english chestnut and special walnut!

I had a new bottle of glue. Please ignore all the glue streaks, the bottle kept squirting out more than i wanted it to...looks like the Exxon Valdez of the glue world in the BH!

Lets see....I got a little wallpapering done yesterday and today i spent the afternoon measuring and cutting all the ceiling and wallpaper for all of the other rooms with the exception of the 3rd floor hallway. I need to look at photos of other beacon hills to see how that hall is supposed to look. I want to make sure that i cut the paper tall enough, it's an odd sized wall area. Well guess that's about it. I hope to wallpaper on thursday and hopefully next weekend i'll get the roofing completed!

As i was cutting wallpaper today, out of the blue the house went off and told me that it's name is Rosewood Manor, home of two sisters Emma and Louisa. ;)
