Starting to Decorate

Actually before I started decorating, I needed a visual on how the rooms were set up. Since I didn't know to do this in the dry fitting, I used a piece of paper to divide my rooms. I also remember getting a little confused about the wall that separates the living room and foyer, I kept looking at the schematics at where the slots were and couldn't decide which way the wall was suppose to go. So I played around a little B)

I mean what's the use of having a dollhouse if you can't play with it (even while building) ;)

As you can tell from the pictures, I changed the 2nd floor room just a tad. I left out the hall and made an arched doorway. I wanted these rooms to be my kitchen and dining area and I made the downstairs originally the kitchen a laundry room. To add the extra to the wall across the kitchen we used scrap wood from the kit and just cut the arch. Also by doing this it moved the bedroom and bathroom to the attic.

For the floor in my living and laundry room, I used real sample wallpaper. I was lucky enough to stop in a local paint store looking for carpet samples and when I mentioned that I was building a dollhouse she asked if I would like to have some old wallpaper sample books, she said I could have all I wanted, they were just going to thrown them away. Well, needless to say, I felt like I had hit the jackpot and I brought home about twelve of those books.

For other rooms I used a mixture of scrapbook paper, dollhouse wallpaper, heavy construction paper and paint. Some are put on with YES glue, others with tacky glue. Aileens tacky glue is the main glue I've used to glue the walls and floor with also.

The bookshelves in the 2nd stairway were easy, for some reason I expected a lot of trouble out of them and the stairways. They take a lot of patience and waiting for glue to dry, but I was pleased with the outcome.

To get the wallpaper in, I had made templates of the rooms. This is when I first discovered that I should have waited to put the windows in. To cut around them was very tedious and time consuming, but it can be done as you can see.

Also most of my flooring is not glued in, since I run the tapewire along the floor, I decided to use double sided tape to adhere my floor coverings so if I do have trouble with the wiring later on, I won't have to destroy the floor to get to it (hopefully).
