Day One - June 07, 2005
The Glencroft had arrived while I was on vacation, and it is now time to begin. The house looks like this on the box.
As some of you know, whenever I begin a new house I usually go out and take pictures of real houses that are similar to what I am building to gain some inspiration. I have not been able to find a house that I want to model this one after, but I have found some pictures of houses that I liked. This house is located in Morristown, New Jersey.
Jimmy takes out my floor boards, and I get those stained. I chose Minwax Provincial this time. I like to use the oil based stains instead of water based, because I think they go into the wood better. Jimmy also pulled out boards to do the shell of the house--and boy there are A LOT of boards for that--and I like to sand the edges of the boards and the window and door cut-outs as well to give them a smoother finish. I like to use a 220 sandpaper. Once I am done with my sanding and staining, Jimmy then begins putting the shell of the house together.
Well now, Jimmy thought he had pulled all the boards necessary for the base shell out, and discovered that he hadn't, so he took the rest out for me to sand. The majority of these boards are used for the front of the house ONLY! Yikes! This one might be a little difficult!
Jimmy now begins putting the shell of the house together. Some of the tabs don't line up correctly, so he uses a rubber hammer to gently tap them into place. Because of the way that this house goes together--with all the front sections--he has to put a little together, let it dry, put a little together, let it dry ...
And that's all we can do for day one!
