julygirl56
I was just looKing through a box of craft goodies and books that I have, for a pattern for baby booties. Guess what I found on the bottom of the box?? A Duracraft "Sweetheart" dollhouse!! I forgot I had it. I purchased it back when my daughter was 2. I intended to put it together for her and life got in the way. 17 years of life to be exact! Does anyone have this house? Does Duracraft still make it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Another project once I get the Pierce renovated. lyn
Peggi
I can't help you with any information, but boy that must have been like finding and unexpected birthday present! What a nice surprise and isn't it funny how we can forget we have things. Be careful though, daughter may still want to claim it. havanaholly
Since the company has gone belly-up this year Dura-Craft is no longer making the Sweetheart, or any other kit, sad to say. My first two kits were Dura-Craft.
IrishMist
I just finished rehabbing a sweetheart cottage into a crofter's cotage. It's a nice sized little cottage. Enjoy! Carol
julygirl56
Sad to hear that Dura Craft is no longer in business. ;) Guess that will make the "Sweetheart even more special. My darling daughter doesn't even know that I found it yet. Maybe I will get her involved in building and decorating it!!! :o lyn
darrellandmelissa
I made one of those houses. Here is a picture of it almost complete. I did add some decorative trim to the shutters and painted them green, well paint them yellow soon, as the green doesnt look right. Here are a few pictures. hydroped
Hi Lyn and all, I have one - unfortuantely it's still waiting to be refurbished. It was quite a sad little buy really- made for a couple of kids by their grandparents (it's signed and dated on the bottom) and ended up in a thrift shop I think it will be a beautiful little place when finished though!! I just hate the idea of trying to remove wall paper (sigh) Even though it's a small house it has GREAT potential - I love the look and size of it - I think your daughter would love to help take part in putting it together and decorating it! -David
julygirl56
Thanks for the pictures of your SWEETHEART Melissa. It's really cute. ;) I already have ideas running thru my head on how to decorate ours. My daughter has a family of rabbits that could live in it. I'm thinking of making my own wallpaper. I'll draw mini carrots on it and put it up in the kitchen. I also have a book of stained glass windows printed on vellum. Something I got as a teenager, many moons ago. You can color them with watercolors or magic markers. My daughter will be here today so I'll show the house to her and see if she's interested. David, it's amazing what people do with gifts from grandparents. :o If mine had made the house for me, I'd still have it. Some people just aren't sentimental. Have you decided how you're going to decorate it yet? lyn
Nameless1
Ah, the Sweetheart Cottage! My mother built one. She has it furnished with 1:18 scale furniture (largely Calico Critters, with some Smaller Home thrown in) so that it can hold a full kitchen and bath. It looks pretty convincing at that scale. hydroped
Hi Lyn, Unfortunately I have a lot of wall paper to remove before I start doing much to my Sweetheart. They used some fairly nice wallpaper...but then put full sized wall paper cut outs of flowers on the top of it, which needless to say takes up pretty much the entire wall - I'm so dreading doing this but I think after reading about how to remove wallpaper I probably should get started today and stop putting it off! I've thought mostly about the roofline... At first I though YES thatching!!!.. I still love the idea of thatching and will definitely try that first!! If I can't get it to work out though I may try making some faux slate roof tiles out of paperclay. I have no idea what I'll do with the interior.. I'm hoping that will come to me after I get the wallpaper off and the roof fixed  Have you figured out what you want yours to look like yet? - It's so nice to have a place were folks can meet and work on the same houses -David
julygirl56
I thought I would make it a rabbit hutch for my daughter's family of bunnies. A thatched roof would be interesting. How would you go about doing that? Straws from an old broom......? Dear daughter's suggestions are to make it into a forest fairy's home or a wizard's house. Both sound like they could be fun. I even thought of turning it into a dress and milliner's shop. Guess my daughter and I will have to put it to a vote. lyn
havanaholly
Lyn, Tom Berkner has a thatching tutorial posted on the Earth & Tree website, www.dollhouse-miniatures.com , and they also carry the coconut fiber he uses. I also remember Joann Swanson had a surfers' concession stand/ Tiki hut project a while back in Dollhouse Miniatures and I'm sure she used straw from a whiskbroom for her thatch. Are these bunnies like the Sylvanian critters?
hydroped
Hi Lynn and all, You know I saw a mini rabbit hutch but I can't remember where. Darn my poor memory. I do remember thinking it was very cool but not where I saw it or how much. I think making one would be fun though too. If you try using broom straws for thatching be sure to let us know how it goes! I think Irish Mist used raffia <?> to make hers. The coconut fiber method looks really tempting, but of course I'd have to order them from E&T and I'm convinced (being cheap cheap cheap) that I can find them locally LOL - on the upside I have ordered from E&T before and they were Wonderful!! They couldn't have been any nicer and they got my package right out to me quickly. They really are neat folks -David
julygirl56
Thanks for the addresses for the thatching instructions Holly. They look interesting. My daughter's bunny family are little resin statues that I gave to my Mom years ago. My Dad gave them to my daughter after my Mom passed away 7 years ago. lyn

kel
I'm new here and not even sure if I'm posting correctly. I was recently given a duracraft sweetheart dollhouse by my mother. It is missing the instructions and one panel that has the staircase on it. If anyone has the instructions please send me pictures of them. I would greatly appreciate it! BlueRidgePaws
Kel, did you check for the instructions on www.dollhouseworkshop.net? There are a bunch in PDF format. You might find what you need there.
