beachpeach
wow! that sounds like an action packed day Kathie! and i HAVE to ask... was that Lollies DH shop in Elgin that you went to? if so, thats pretty much what i got about GL when i went up there. and she also told me that the Tom Bishop show was a waste of time because it was so expensive. what i kept thinkin was....how can this woman have the dream job of playing with DH stuff all day and be so nasty! then again she did have some good sales.... i hope everyone is careful on the road and has an uneventful trip here. i went to rob the bank yesterday at lunchtime but they would only let me rob my account, so i'm armed with a fist full 'o dollars! i have to clean out the car today and load in the rest of those fabric books. my backseat is full and the trunk in 1/2 full. gotta make some space for the load that i have cluttering up my kitchen. i'll just be happy to get rid of them. i cant wait to meet everyone in the morning! this is gonna be fun Fun FUN!!! heidiiiii
Break out the wallet and show those precious baby Garfield pics Uppity! I hope you all have lots and lots of fun this weekend. I am sooooo jealous!
KathieB
Yes, Sharon, it was Lolly in all her glory. I'm glad she doesn't know who I am, as I'm sure my name would not be safe in her mouth. But that's history. We got to the Windy City and IMA shows today, had a breakfast and lunch, and are not at the Hawthorn Suites, waiting for Norma Jeane's friend and his wife to pick us up for dinner at Joe's Crab Shack. Both of us bought some nifty things today, but the best has to be NJ's sampler. It looks to have been stitched on 80-count linen or something. Incredibly beautiful! I nearly bought a half scale library table and chair, then discovered it in kit form. Time to put feet up ... looking forward to breakfast! KathieB
While I wouldn't have slapped her upside the head, I probably WOULD have challenged her views, and asked WHY she thought that..then sent her straight with WAY too many pics of my Garfield! Oh, she had a long list of reason why she thought that ... the gist of which I discerned to be she's not a builder. She hated having to punch out the pieces, she hated all the sanding, getting splinters. It wasn't worth challenging her in a debate. She was one of those people who you can provide with all the information in the world but not be able to give them the ability to understand it. *sigh* Can't wait for morning! beachpeach
that sounds like the same Lollie experience that i got. she gave me the impression that she was pissed off at all the greenleaf houses that people got for xmas. then she preceeded to drag me into the back room and show me all the RGT houses. i admit that they were beautiful and the wood was high grade but they looked like they would weigh a ton! not to mention way over my budget. my feelings at the time was that she should be happy that people were coming into her shop. hell, i fought 2 hrs of traffic to get there and i doubt that i'm goin back. she was so stirred up runnin her mouth that she forgot to give me 2 dowels that i purchased. i phoned her when i got home as soon as i noticed they weren't in my bag and asked her to break them down and just mail them to me. to her credit she did but it was postmarked 3 weeks after i made the call. enough venting. am i'm lookin forward to breakfast! and all of the goodies that are gonna be at the show tomorrow! can't wait to meet everyone! Minis On The Edge
Well, Sharon you don't live too far from me so I can see meeting up with you in my near future! Cindy & Andrea Lives as far away (In miles) as Ann & Teresa & I think Kathie is even further away! Are any of you gonna be at the fall show (Tom Bishop)? beachpeach
you mean to tell me there's another show in the fall??? OMG, YES! count me in! i spent all the money that i had allocated for this show except $2.00 so i'll put that in a dark, damp place so it can grow for the next show!
Minis On The Edge
Yeap Tom Bishop comes to Chicag 2X's He used to do classes then too but for the past 3 years there has been ZERO classes at the fall show. I need to fertilize my money too and hope it grow!!
KathieB
Fall show ... could be! NJ and I got back to the room and collapsed. What a show! It was great to meet everyone, and what a great time sorting through the fabric and wallpaper books ... it was like little shark feeding frenzy! Will be visiting with my sister and niece tomorrow, driving home on Monday. Can't wait to spread out the loot and do a little staging in the houseboat. Tracy, Rachel is a little doll. Hope to see her on line soon. Minis On The Edge
Thank You Kathie! wait till you all get to know her. She is funny and so shy! She thought we were all crazy over the fabric and then decided she wanted some too and overcame that shyness  she spent all of her money too. Meeting you all was a real treasure!! cwoods
I really enjoyed meeting everyone. I wish there would have been more time. Thank you ladies (and Ralph) for the fabric and wallpaper books. I spent a portion of the drive home pouring over them and brainstorming with Andrea ways that we could use them. What a treasure. Also thanks for the lovely pins (silver and greenhouse). I do hope that we can do this again soon, it was very nice meeting people with the same passion. Rachel was lovely, how neat that she is interested in mini's......following in mom's footsteps. beachpeach
i don't know about all of those that attended the show but i'm experiencing a mini hangover and bout of exhaustion here! i know Tracy mentioned it and so did Kathie and Norma Jean, but i thought i was ok until i got finished posting the pictures last night.... then i crashed and burned! big time! i was sitting at my pc and could barely keep my eyes open! then it dawned on me that i had been on my feet and walkin around for over 5hrs! i circled the entire place (upstairs and downstairs) twice. it was amazing! and i'm just sick that my camera died on me just before i reached that booth with the leaded greenhouses! i coulda just died in those! (and the prices too!) :groucho: did anyone get pictures of those by any chance? otherwise i'm gonna have to take pics of them in Sept. i hope everyone isnt suffering too badly either physically or in the wallet! and lets do this again! and i wanna see everyones pictures too! uppitycats
Those leaded greenhouses were awesome indeed! Just amazing. I could have sat there and stared inside them for hours! Y'know, I do have to agree a bit with the Lolly lady who didn't like Tom Bishop's Show. We found WAY more stuff at the two small shows on Friday --more affordable, and hand-made (not kits, not mass produced). Some of the stuff at the Bishop show was lovely eye-candy, to be sure -- like the greenhouses, and some of the exquisite English furniture.. but a lot more of it was stuff readily available at all kinds of internet sites...so we didn't buy much on Saturday -- except for 3 dolls, my Purrsyla Tabbykins, and Ralph bought a gentleman and a lady he's going to use in his *from scratch* dollhouse that he's planning! But, depending on our schedule, I'll likely come again in the Fall, anyway! Again, it was SUCH a pleasure to meet all of you. And Rachel is a sweetheart! Yes, the fabric and wallpaper book frenzy was a sight to behold, too. :groucho:
MiniMadWoman
I had a fantastic time . . . from Wednesday morning right through to Saturday afternoon when I made it home. I don't think I can pull those 1 am'ers to often . . . I've slept most of today away!! Even if some of the stuff was more than I could ever afford, it was sure nice to see it and get ideas! There's always a way to do it even with a budget! Lady Jane's glass greenhouses are to die for . . . that really BIG one defies gravity!! I'm glad to say I got everything on my list . . . it pays to plan ahead. I'm going to post all my pictures in the Gallery. It was so nice to meet everyone! I really enjoyed myself! Thanks to Ann and Sharon for the wallpaper and fabric books . . . I got my share and then some! LOL!!
queenannediva
Lady Jane's glass greenhouses are to die for . . . that really BIG one defies gravity!! I heard from someone that was at the show on Saturday that Lady Jane sold one of her greenhouses for $38,000 that day. Valerie
uppitycats
I am still in awe over those greenhouses...and $38,000??? I have to admit...if I had a spare $38,000, I might have bought it myself...they really are exquisite!! I just told Ralph...his comment: "Well, at least she won't have to pack it up and take it home!!" Anyway. There is a new album in my gallery with all my treasures....I spent way more than I intended...Oh well. Peanut butter sandwiches for the next month or so and my budget will be back on track. Just in time for the September shows! :yum: This is a really poor picture -- I have to figure out how to get her in better lighting -- but here is Purrsyla Tabbykins. I really resisted buying her...but she kept meowing in my ear....so after passing her up about a half dozen times, I went back to her table...and SOMEONE ELSE WAS ADMIRING HER!!...so I called out, "Hi, I'm back with my checkbook, ready to buy that little cat!!" and the kind woman snatched her up for me! Whew!! :yum:
MiniMadWoman
Thank goodness for you Ann!! You would have been so disappointed if she would have gone to another home! $38,000??!!!! I wonder if that was the huge glass house that defies gravity? It really was amazing. I have to admit, one day I will own one of her greenhouses . . . they really are quite exquisite. Well, I've posted pictures in my Chicago Gallery. Enjoy! Oh, more to come BTW!
beachpeach
WOW Ann you really racked up! i love the mission table and chairs and the tool box is really cool! Miss Purrsyla is very sweet and i was pleased to meet her! now that i take a better look, it appears as though she is holdin a wedding bouquet! she is very sweet and i'm sure Brimble is gonna fall head over heels for her! please keep us posted on their antics! beachpeach
hey Teresa, great pics and you wound up with some really cool pieces too. gotta love the Mr. and wee Chloei is just adorable! those plants were outta this world! i saw so much foliage i was in heaven. makes my palm tree that im workin on look pretty pityful. maybe i should take a floral class 'cos you did an awesome job on your arrangement. now we need to see Tracy's to see if it turned out a bad as she says! maybe in the fall they will offer a class on leaded greenhouses.... why cant we make those too? do you know anything about stained glass? i don't but have always wanted to learn. i do know how to cut glass so thats a beginning, but my hands get sweaty when i used to cut because i was so nervous about slicing myself. oh, and is it "proper" for the Mr. and Miss to be cohabitating without a marriage liscense? LOL
uppitycats
Teresa, those ferns are lovely!, and your hydrangea is awesome! I saw so many really lovely plants there. I really do have to take one of those classes. I ran into a lady who had a "water scene" she'd made --all plants that thrive in water, and she had the little pond and everything. Really beautiful, and I was so impressed with her "weak first attempt" as she called it! Maybe next year I'll sign up for something like that... Minis On The Edge
I just uploaded the pictures of my classes and purchases in my gallery. Sharon, No one will ever see my flowers because I never assembled them. After I cut out the first set of petals and leaves and curled them, made the skeletons and all od these littl "L's" I decided I quit! It was too much per flower!! Teresa has the pataince and I will NEVER say, I can make that flower myself (Not unless it's a clay flower). Those paper ones are a killer!! Teresa's turned out totally beautiful! I am so proud of her too because I KNOW how hard each flower is to make!! The pictures do not do that arrangement justice!
beachpeach
Tracy you found some wonderful stuff too! i really enjoy lookin at what everybody took home. there was so much stuff there my head was spinnin tryin to take it all in. and you did such a great job on your class doll! now ya'll have me wantin to take classes which i barely even considered before. Minis On The Edge
I have some other stuff (I got a dish set like yours and the spoon set like yours too) I also bought a doll but I can't find that bag at the moment. I put it away because of the showing and can't seem to find it all now!
