jaxenro
My last two - John Godward on the left and Evelyn De Morgan on the right - always hard to photograph as the light reflects oddly off the treatment - these two are a gift for someone here Edited June 24, 2021 by jaxenro

jaxenro
I recently "discovered" De Morgan her work is beautiful. I have a nice framed matching size set of Helen and Cassandra (two of "The Trojan Women", too bad she didn't do a Andromache). Yes I was rereading the Iliad lately https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelyn_De_Morgan John William Godward, along with Albert Joseph Moore, is probably my favorite artist. Moore's brushwork and attention to detail are amazing as is Godward's, and his (Godward's) obvious love of his models and settings (he essentially moved with one model to Italy later in life) shows through. His paintings are typically beautiful women in idealized setting lazing around doing little. A sensitive soul he eventually committed suicide when his style of painting fell from favor, supposedly remarking there was no room for him in a world that contained Picasso Edited June 24, 2021 by jaxenro
havanaholly
Joel, your photo shows the texture beautifully, and it looks MUCH more in scale; whatever you're doing, keep it up.
jaxenro
This is my take on Thomas Cole's "Course of Empire" series. I am working on the frames the one shown is a mock up in Cherry I still need to clean it up and finish it but the prints have been "treated". The frames are roughly 3" x 4" outside dimensions so this would be a dramatic set in a dollhouse. Clockwise from bottom left "The Savage State", "The Pastoral State", "The Consummation", "Destruction", and "Desolation"
havanaholly
That cherry frame definitely picks up the brown and reddish tones in the painting; looks really good!
Medieval
Maybe you should build an art gallery? Or was that already suggested?

Medieval
Thanks Holly. My memory not the best. But when I saw the picture of all the paintings on the wall I remember when it was first posted
havanaholly
Joel's original photo reminded me of a jigsaw puzzle the hubs & I put together of a 17th Century Italian art gallery.
