JMD 0
Does anyone have a 1:12 scale art deco house plan - have searched all over and can't find any plans. Thank you.
havanaholly 10,939
Janet, if you scroll down to the locked topic "Art Deco Dollhouse Plan" you will see the discussion about building the dollhouse featured in a Popular Mechanics magazine from the 1930s, which, from the discussion, seems to have been 1:24 scale. Ifyou can find a copy of the magazine you could use graph paper (or a copier) to enlarge the plans to 1:12 (200%).
fov 1,902
Here you go, I found them with a Google search: https://books.google.com/books?id=-9oDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA114&lpg=PA114&dq=you+can+build+this+dollhouse+of+plywood+1937&source=bl&ots=TS7OheMgO1&sig=WHnksAYThEXDXfQ4X7w3497WeZw&hl=en&ei=lU9tTubXL4PHgAfhlOCGBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CDMQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q&f=false If that link doesn't take you straight to the page, they start on page 114. There's also this eBay auction that I posted at the bottom of the locked thread: https://www.ebay.com/itm/doll-house-plans-ART-DECO-STYLE/193822948674
Shareb 1,224
I'm going to be building a mid-century house from scratch. But interesting to see that there are plans available.
Sweet 31
But Mike still has the plans in one of his albums, I have downloaded them and I just made a start with this house.
havanaholly 10,939
That's the 1:24 plans I was trying to remember! Thank you, Dutchie!

Cati 38
Art Deco was such a distinctive style and sadly it was popular for such a brief period in time. I often wish there were more Art Deco kits available, as well as its predecessor Art Nouveau. While looking online I found someone who made that very house from Popular Mechanics plan.
Shareb 1,224
Interesting! There are quite a few sellers on Etsy now who sell both Art Nouveau and Art Deco styled furniture kits. I've bought a few recently from a fantastic guy in the Netherlands. Beautiful furniture. Plus mid-century modern as well.

Dollshouses Direct from the Uk offering an Art Deco style building in one and two stories. The Dolls House Emporium has this "Malibu Beach House Kit," that looks like an Art Deco building found in South Beach, FL. built in the 1920s.
Shareb 1,224
The building I used for my Apothecary was from Dollhouse Direct. The first kit didn't include everything I'd ordered so they sent the extras to me. It was a pain as I had to wait for the postage - and that was prior to Covid! However they were okay to deal with. The Malibu house is gorgeous but I imagine they're pretty expensive!
havanaholly 10,939
It was marked down nearly half price and is sold out now: http://www.dollshouse.com/malibu-beach-house-kit
