Kaiti
I'm getting mixed reviews about staining this dollhouse. The orchid. I want to stain the exterior, is that possible? I have stainable wood filler
Mid-life madness
Hi Kaiti, Welcome It is your house so do whatever you want to do. Many antique dollhouses were stained and varnished and are beautiful. Plus, if it does not work out the way you hope, you can paint over it. havanaholly
As long as your Orchid has not been primed or painted you can stain it, if you wish. I have often thought of staining the exterior of a dollhouse and then doing folk painting over it would be a jolly thing to do. fov
You can do it, but the luan plywood doesn't always look good stained. Also "stainable" wood filler often isn't as stainable as it claims to be. But as Holly and Carrie said, if you don't like it you can paint over it, so there's no harm in trying!
havanaholly
I seem to recall there was a version of the Arthur that came with a chart for the folk painting. My only problem with the stain is that it can bring out the grain, and the wood grain is 'way out of scale for a 1:12 dollhouse. Maybe prime it and paint it a wood stain color?
