Just finished assembling my first dollhouse

Recommended Posts

I've been admiring the Greenleaf dollhouses online for years, but had never been able to justify the expense, until this spring, when the world got cancelled. I live in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada, and for the first couple months of lockdown, you literally couldn't go outside without your face freezing within a minute or two, so I decided I needed a project, and bought the Magnolia. Now I'm hooked! I'll admit I rushed out of excitement and I'm not thrilled with the colour, and I'm just not happy with how it turned out, so I'm giving it to my daughter to play with. I've ordered the Buttercup and intend on doing a much better job. I can't wait for it to arrive.

I should also mention that I am partially colour blind, so I typically can't match colours at the best of times. There's a lot I will do different on my next house.

Welcome Renee! Well now that is a little rough around the edges but for a first house and that model you certainly did just fine! We all learn by doing. I like the added touches of moss and the logs on the porch.  Your daughter will be thrilled to have to play with it I'm sure.

My first kit was a Bobbie that is currently undergoing its 3rd update and originally had hot pink shutters and trim!

Great job on your first house! The Magnolia is not an easy one to start with.

Thank you! The interior turned out much better than the exterior.

I've made her a bunch of peg people to go with the house. Now I just have to wait until she is old enough to not try and eat the shingles.

Also, the moss is actually hiding irregularities and other unattractive bits.

Haha, spoken like a true dollhouse builder.

Welcome - great job! I love this house, it's on my list of houses I want. Would also love to see the interior.

Welcome to the little family, Renee.  My Magnolia is a Florida Cracker house located in what is now a national forest (back story).

You have obviously learned the first rule of building a dollhouse kit.  I hear some colors, so sometimes my decor may look strange, too.

Half my job is just me going "well how am I going to hide that?" so it seems the skill was transferable.

You have synesthesia? I've never actually talked to someone with it before. That must making picking colours difficult.

I've never been diagnosed.  Actually it makes color matching really easy, but it sets off a discord if one of adjoining colors is a tad "off", like a piano key that needs tuning.

Hi, I'm Laura. I bought the Coventry Cotrage about ten years ago, started building and then... stopped. But, I've picked it back up again recently now that I have some space and I'm really enjoying it.  I just put in my first bit of wall paper! I'm looking forward to learning all of the things.

      Hello
I'm Jill from Osage Beach, Missouri, originally from Omaha, Nebraska.  I have been looking at these dollhouses for more than ten years.  I originally wanted the Garfield, but it is so big.  Maybe I'll do it as my next house?  So I saw the Lily, love it, but it is also so big.  I decided to make my first house a half scale and I just fell in LOVE with the Fairfield.  I am a perfectionist by nature and I hope it doesn’t drive me crazy trying to get it right.  I love the “Don’t panic!” in the warm-up syllabus.  So I am just going to take my time and enjoy it as intended.  I look forward to seeing what all of you have to say.
Take care in this time of uncertainty, Jill

Hi I'm Rachael from TX. I have wanted a dollhouse my entire life. I am a DIY kind of gal so thought I should start with a kit. What better time than in a quarantine to start a new project? I will definitely be using this sight for much needed research. Thanks so much!

Hello everyone I'm Cindy.. Happy (belated) Mother's Day to all the beautiful Mom's. Today I opened my 1st "Greenleaf (Orchid) Dollhouse Kit". I broke 2 windows already, but only because I was so excited. LoL..cough-cough.. :P I wasn't sure if I should use wood-filler or glue? I went with the "Gorilla-Glue" which seemed to workout just fine.. Crosses-fingers & holds-breath! I started a video too, so when the dollhouse is done we can watch it together. :) Ok, tty'all real soon.

So, I am on day two of my Glencroft build. The second floor went in with much finagling, but now I am dealing with the left side of my house. I've read about some of the problems other people have had with this side. I decided to walk away and start fresh tomorrow. So far it's been fun♡
