Sweet
I have been reading this post form @BigC explaining how he made bricks out of cork and I must say that I love it! It is easy to cut, although the blades run dull very fast, you can stain the material (I like Dutch red bricks) and it has a nice feel to it. Does anyone here know how I can seal the bricks and what to use as mortar?
havanaholly
I would try clear sanding sealer or lacquer on a scrap of cork and then see how joint compound or spackle works with it as a mortar. I had seen the use of cork for mini bricks somewhere else. Are you using the really thin cork like I've seen in the scrapbooking sections?
Sweet
Thank you, I have bought some cork, it is 2 mm thick. Do you know the name of brand you use for that compound or sealer?
havanaholly
I used Deft spackle for years, so that's the brand I use for joint compound. I can't recall the lacquer brand, but it comes in a can with a blue & white label.
Elsbeth
I really like the look of those! I wonder if mod podge would work for sealing?

After all the posts about MP "drying" tacky I wouldn't think so.
Elsbeth
I love Mod Podge dimensional magic - it dries hard. But it's glossy. They make an outdoor sealer too - that might be worth a shot. I have never had the tacky dry issues - if I use thin coats. I have had the tackiness when I went too thick with regular mod podge. Dimensional Magic by mod podge always dries hard for me no matter what the thickness. Love the shine. Self leveling too.
Sweet
I like the sound of that: self leveling... I wonder if I can get it in The Netherlands.
sandra42
No money so couldn't buy compound stuff. Tried mixing talcum powder (which I no longer use) and ordinary white glue. Worked great!
BlueRidgePaws
I just saw the cork brickwork on the Brentwood dollhouse on Paper Doll Miniatures (paperdollminiatures.com), and I love how it looks. Kristine Hanna has a tutorial for the cork bricks on the Paper Doll website. It looks like a fun project.
Keifer
I used cork on my house but went with an uneven look 🙂
