glencroft Glencroft remove downstairs wall?

I am about to start assembling my Glencroft kit. I was wondering if I could remove the downstairs interior wall (cut it off from the upstairs interior wall), to create an open plan downstairs. I’d really like more room for the kitchen and eating area. If I did this, would the second floor still be structurally stable?

You'll remove the downstairs fireplace, among other things.  Do a careful dry fit to see just how much room you'll have.

Do you mean the wall that separates the kitchen from the sitting room? I think you could do that. The slots are pretty strong.

I like that idea - a big open first floor, with fireplace and stairs.

Yes, Elsbeth, that is exactly what I meant. Sounds like the upstairs floor will still be sturdy so I think I’ll try it.  I’m thinking I can put in a kitchen island with stools or a long dining table where the wall would have been. Mine will definitely be a “modern” Tudor on the inside.

I thought you meant the stairwell wall.  You might want to put a couple of columns to support the floor there.

Go ahead and take it out. If the ceiling starts to sag, you can always install a column or two as part of your renovation.
