Fairfield - no fireplace?

Recommended Posts

Just starting my Fairfield kit and wondering...has anyone just completely left out the fireplace? Is it part of the support structure of the house?

Any input is welcome.

Go to search and type in fairfield.  It will show soooo many links to other pictures and convos.  Sorry I wan't able to provide a specific link.

You can leave out all or some of the fireplaces -- just don't punch them out, and wallpaper over them. I did this on the second floor.

But if you're talking about getting rid of the chimney structure, that is integral to holding the house together.

I suppose you could leave them out.  I had so much fun making them for mine.

The fireplace assembly is part of the support structure for that side of the house, but you could certainly replace it with a plain wall or perhaps columns if you wanted the two ground floor rooms opened up to each other.  There should be some type of support or you risk the 2nd floor sagging.

Cake pillars painted to resemble marble or granite would look quite elegant.
