larsonfeigner
Hello. I am new to the dollhouse world and need some tips on laying wood flooring with jumbo popsicle sticks. I started glueing directly to the floor with Elmer’s wood glue but they are all curling up on the edges. What am I doing wrong?
Mid-life madness
Hi Mary, They tend to curl and will mostly lie flat once the glue dries, but occasionally there will be a stubborn few who won't cooperate. Weigh them down while the glue dries. Also, you try an adhesive with low moisture content.
larsonfeigner
Thank you! It looks like every single one is curling so you suggest a low moister adhesive?
Mid-life madness
Try a glue specifically for wood like Titebond lll and spread it evenly and thinly. Then weigh it down with something heavy. You may still have some curling.
havanaholly
Welcome to the little family, Mary. I like rubber cement when I lay plain wood floors. Lately I really like to work with the iron-on wood veneer strips.
FurMama
Hi Mary, welcome! I have not used the jumbo sticks only the narrow. I imagine the weight will take care of a lot of it. A little sanding might lessen the appearance of any remaining ridges Sometimes real floors have humps.
KathieB
Hi, Mary, and welcome to the forum. When gluing down flooring strips or siding or shingles, it is not necessary to coat the entire surface with glue. The moisture from the glue soaking into the wood is what causes it to warp/curl. Dots or thin stripes of glue will do the job and prevent the warping. It's not like there are going to hoards of little people stomping through with their steel-toed boots to dislodge it. Put a piece of waxed paper on top of the newly-glued flooring and weight it down with heavy books, large cans, etc., to dry overnight.
