havanaholly
I'm confused; I don't consider using kits to be "scratch" building; rather, kit-bashing. Totally different animal. I am a scratch builder of furniture, not of dollhouses.

They should have just said "One of a kind kit-bash!" and I'd be fine. I mean it is a mega bash. I love it. It's got that Winchester House don't-stop-building vibe!! rodentraiser
I see so many kits on Craig's List and eBay that say they're hand made, or custom made, or scratch built, I just ignore it. It's the same thing with people calling everything they list for sale one of a kind, unique, or antique. If there were truly as many genuine antiques on Craig's List as people claim, the market would be selling one of a kind 18th century Chippendale chairs for a nickle apiece. The Beachside Bungalow is not a good deal where the bids are now, because with shipping it will be about $80, and at Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon, and including most taxes it will be about $76. Yes the Fantasy Island house is beautiful... I'd ideally like a Little Orphan Annie or a Lakeside Manor.. probably never going to happen though... I think this one has possibilities if you were to bash it. Maybe a conservatory on that side deck. Maybe a porch or a veranda? Mmmmm... still musing... I'll likely never pull the trigger.. haha. rodentraiser
LOL I read "cement mixer" instead of "cement mixture" and I was trying to figure out why someone would need a cement mixer for a dollhouse. Come to think of it, why do they need a cement mixture? A mini cement sidewalk maybe?
minilover62
This store from Australia has a huge 60% off on lots of JBM 1/2 scale furniture, and the shipping is reasonable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miniature-dollhouse-1-24-scale-half-scale-bar-stool-JBM-/152011598839?hash=item236498ebf7:g:FRsAAOSwAuNW4o1I

Elsbeth
And last one - things are priced pretty cheap for Christmas - this is a quick build mdf colonial from RGT, but it is a cute house for redoing. I have one and I repapered it with interesting scrapbook papers. It is however, quite heavy, and it has become a cabinet for un-assigned furniture. But I am sucker for the old dark green and white color combo. $65. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/tag/5905464731.html

rodentraiser
I was thinking of going to get that one myself, but I really don't want to do a 5 hour drive for a $25 house. I would like to see someone get it though, because otherwise I'm afraid this person is just going to toss it in the trash.

fov
Mary Engelbreit cottage: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mary-Engelbreit-19th-Century-Cottage-Doll-House-/282281082216?hash=item41b9437d68:g:tH4AAOSw2xRYRcuG When those pop up the asking price is usually a lot higher, but it's not clear if this one comes with the graphics (which are what makes it unique). rodentraiser
I never could figure out why that cottage cost so much. It's basically the RGT cottage or the Kiwi dollhouse with Mary Englebreit wallpaper. And you can get the Mary E. wallpaper anywhere they sell miniature wallpaper. fov
It's not just wallpaper, but also graphics for the exterior, which wouldn't be easy to replicate. But I agree, I've always thought it was overpriced.
