I'm confused; I don't consider using kits to be "scratch" building; rather, kit-bashing.  Totally different animal.  I am a scratch builder of furniture, not of dollhouses.

I agree - I don't considering using kits "scratch building". They should have just said "One of a kind kit-bash!" and I'd be fine. I mean it is a mega bash. I love it. It's got that Winchester House don't-stop-building vibe!!

I see so many kits on Craig's List and eBay that say they're hand made, or custom made, or scratch built, I just ignore it. It's the same thing with people calling everything they list for sale one of a kind, unique, or antique. If there were truly as many genuine antiques on Craig's List as people claim, the market would be selling one of a kind 18th century Chippendale chairs for a nickle apiece.

Anyone want a Beachside Bungalow or a New Orleans?

The Beachside Bungalow is not a good deal where the bids are now, because with shipping it will be about $80, and at Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon, and including most taxes it will be about $76.

I've been watching this one for a while but don't know if all the pieces are there & it's got no instructions. :dunno: Good price though!  S/W Crafts Inc Cape Cod http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Un-built-S-W-Crafts-Inc-Cape-Cod-Wooden-Dollhouse-/172403482568?hash=item28240c5fc8:g:lHwAAOSwlV9WSiM~

I have been also watching this kit for a while, but the one I am after is the Fantasy Island from the same people.

Yes the Fantasy Island house is beautiful... I'd ideally like a Little Orphan Annie or a Lakeside Manor.. probably never going to happen though... I think this one has possibilities if you were to bash it. Maybe a conservatory on that side deck. Maybe a porch or a veranda? Mmmmm... still musing... I'll likely never pull the trigger.. haha.

And last one - things are priced pretty cheap for Christmas - this is a quick build mdf colonial from RGT, but it is a cute house for redoing. I have one and I repapered it with interesting scrapbook papers. It is however, quite heavy, and it has become a cabinet for un-assigned furniture. But I am sucker for the old dark green and white color combo. $65.

I was thinking of going to get that one myself, but I really don't want to do a 5 hour drive for a $25 house. I would like to see someone get it though, because otherwise I'm afraid this person is just going to toss it in the trash.

Aaaaaaiiiieee - a pre-built Highland modern house! It is $25!

Oh to do it in burnt orange/browns/avocado tones. Hello 1970s - early 80s!

Oh, I had to look...  Glad I live as far away as I do.

It's not just wallpaper, but also graphics for the exterior, which wouldn't be easy to replicate. But I agree, I've always thought it was overpriced.
