Glencroft shingles

I'm getting a partially built Glencroft at the end of the month.  The owner tells me that the roof will need to be shingled (I don't think she's supplying those!  :) )   What have you all used for your Glencroft?  I did some on line research on the tudor houses, and it looks like rectangular slate shingles are what is commonly used, so I'm thinking rectangular shingles painted dark grey would work.  What else might you suggest?

I used doubled layers of black construction paper:

which the sun's UV rays bleached to tan:

The sun changed the roof's color

I have since gone back and repainted the roof a dark slate gray.
