Ken
Moving along - Cut some trim in the shop yesterday and added to the left wall now can start siding there also. Siding then more siding lol, Started shingles on porch and bay window, Can't go any farther until siding is done in that area and painted. The attic window design has been finalized . What you see is the outside just added the eyebrow. The inside part I still need to drill out then will be able to sandwich the window in between them. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3237_zpsf13c376b.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3238_zps2b33d5ae.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3239_zpsc89ba3f5.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3240_zps9ca489e0.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3242_zps2f930259.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3241_zpsa6526131.jpg
Dalesq
Nice! I like the attic window. I couldn't quite figure it out before, but "see" it now. Very nice! The siding looks so nice and really finished. I'm thinking I will side the Tennyson. Right now I'm working on interior papering/flooring, and trying to get myself psyched to do the siding, LOL. I can see from your photos I just need to practice patience!

And the little details make a build a little extra...

Ken
Hope to have this wrapped up this week-end - At least dry fitted before any finish goes on. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3259_zps15067df4.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3257_zpsfa1aca22.jpg
Ken
Ooh, Ken, you might need to do a photo tutorial for siding here for us! OH I don't know Holly - That would be pretty boring ..
havanaholly
Not boring how you fit siding strips around window trim already in place. I tried making up a paper pattern and cutting the siding to fit and that so did not work! Your inlay floor looks magnificent!
Dalesq
Oh (drool) that floor is so pretty! I agree with Holly--a siding tutorial would NOT be boring. Your four step pictures of how you solved the problem was great! It is looking really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing the floor inside the house. Are you planning to stain it, or just put a finish over it to highlight the wood tones?

And Debora I will only put on a finish the woods will darken and show their natural tones - I have always finished my wood projects that way - My prefered finish for furniture is Tung-Oil .. Won't use it in a dollhouse though very time consuming.
Ken
Attic windows !! One down - The back insert can still come out for painting and some inside trim later- The hi-tech window is the bottom of a cookie package. lol http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3260_zpse9ea9120.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3262_zpsde2c21f4.jpg Two to go.. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3263_zpscc87cd17.jpg

I don't know Debora - Round ones -LOL  LOL Actually my wife brought the package over to me and said these will make good windows - unfortunatly they aren't very big so theses would only work for small windows - I'm always looking for things like that
Ken
It fits -like a bug in the rug.. Now several hours of finish sanding up to 400 gritt - Then a finish and to glue it down I will use laminating glue since I have a couple quarts out in the shop.. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3266_zpsb327c8eb.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3268_zps7633acc8.jpg

Ken
A tutorial on siding - I'll see what I can do , I guess the first would be what tools do I ? Use whatever works for you.. http://i1164.photobu...zps2ba3a065.jpg I use surgical blades for cutting , Same thing as Xacto blades just thinner and sharper (I keep the protective cap on at all times when not cutting. A steel rule with a non slip surface on the back. A good sanding block , Don't use the ones with a rubber or felt face , This will give and cause round over areas where you don't want them. This one I made. Quality wood glue. 1- piece of 180 grit sandpaper to sand end's of siding to final fit. Painters tape and after using this for years learned last week there are different strenght tapes. ( I was having trouble keeping the siding down while the glue dried - Thought at first the glue had gone bad. Then looked at the tape that I ran out of and the new and the cardboard inner piece was a different color. Investigated and there is a low strength which I had mistakenly gotten and a medium up to strong hold tape. Anyway I went back to medium and all is good again. http://i1164.photobu...zps33fe59f3.jpg http://i1164.photobu...zpsf33e6d6a.jpg This I don't think they make anymore I have had this for 7 or 8 years now uses a single edged razor blade. I have left the handle up several times and reached for something and cut myself, Probably why they don't have the out anymore, It works great though' http://i1164.photobu...zps77405180.jpg
mesp2k
I've been watching your progress with the Westville - very nice! ...like your homemade sanding block & that cutter is very neat...when you're not cutting your fingers... I sometimes put carpet tape on a wall vertically then glue the siding to the wall (don't get glue on the tape) - the tape holds the siding in place while the glue dries. The tape becomes a permanent part of the wall/siding. No masking tape, weights or clamps needed.

Ken
OK here's how I do siding - Everyone will have their own methods - Even my method is always changing as I try new things and see other methods here. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3274_zpsd6239fa9.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3275_zps0a363f57.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3276_zpsa24f4671.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3277_zps11db756d.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3278_zps799adbd6.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3279_zps38a570c2.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3280_zps645748f1.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3281_zps011defcc.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3282_zps0e0f181f.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3283_zps99347cd4.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3284_zpsb068bba2.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3285_zpsa45c3317.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3286_zps5d801cc7.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3287_zps9b11d4a9.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3288_zpsa21b72f6.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3290_zpsfdf9fec3.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3291_zps06870d15.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3292_zps4187a3e8.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3293_zpsee5c4d33.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3295_zps8acb3135.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3296_zps7455463e.jpg
