Ken
Sunday - A little too warm to work out in the shop and the back is a bit of a bother today - So stayed in and built a couple more window boxes and started planking the porch.. I had ordered some more siding and one bag was all hearwood, Wow I said great flooring.. So am using some of it on the porch, Cut it down to .25" widths and started laying - 1 slat at a time put weights on and come back in 30 minutes or so sand and add another sanding as I go along, I can't do anymore until I get the door in. In the picture I have the step I will be using and it will show what the deck will look like with finish on.,., http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3192_zps32224590.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3197_zps3c0ca7f1.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3193_zps29d5b073.jpg

Ken
Thought I'd try my hand at the siding (in a small area) Looks like it should go well from here on out.. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3213_zps4af0b10e.jpg
havanaholly
The Westville was my first attempt at siding; I learned a lot (made LOTS of mistakes). The Coventry cottage was the last house I sided, and I hit the strips with bug juice to age them before installing them, and then made a wash with white acrylic paint to get a very old, weathered South Georgia finish.
Dalesq
I'm lovin' watching this build. I like that you are including photos as you go. I think it is really sweet that you are making it for someone as a gift. Have you seen the real life Westville? I think I found it somewhere on this forum. The kit looks just like the original. Hello Debora - Thank you - No I haven't seen the real Westville yet but will go look for it.. The changes I am making are suttle but ones I think she will like.. Plus trying to figure out what the heck I'm doing as I go along LOL.. Lots of fun.. I'm thinking after this one possibly a scratch build, I found a picture of a very nice house I think would make a nice doll house.. I'll probably never get into furnishing them - I just enjoy building then find someone to give it too, That's the fun part..

Dalesq
Hi Ken, I know what you mean, I really enjoy building them too. But I don't have the tools or skills you obviously have. It will be fun to see what you do next! The only real power tools I'm comfortable with are a cordless drill and Dremel. I get a little intimidated re furnishing, although building furniture (I use kits so far) is as enjoyable to me as building the houses. Looking at everyone's work though, I realize it's scene setting, and I plan to experiment with just a few furnishings in one of the houses I'm working on to see if I can convey the feeling with only a few details. Keep the pictures coming!

OK Debora I will - Woodworking is one of my hobbies for the last 30 or so years - Also wood airplanes - RC wood boats etc etc over the years - Now that being said dollhouses is something I never thougfht I'd do - LOL Getting up in years - So this is a bit lighter work and I should be able to continue it much longer then the heavier work. With 15 Grandkids and a Great Grandson the woodworking has came in handy with toy boxes rocking horses just finishing up another now. And odd and end projects around the house. Work into power tools carefully you usually only get one mistake..
Ken
Sorry about the quailty of the pictures... have started siding on right side.. I have time to put on 2 or 3 strips in the AM before work and again when I get home.. Going along pretty well - Have been lucky getting the fit spot on so far LOL http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3214_zps5a2d5025.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3219_zps95705b6d.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3217_zps8ef18fc7.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3215_zpsee4b0116.jpg

Ken
Have been adding siding all week , Progress moving right along . Finished up inlaying wood on porch this AM and have the door sitting in place .. So far so good. Cut a base for the livingroom floor outof 1/32 ply, Started laying hardwood down - Will do an inlay pattern in the middle (Not what's there now LOL) Have some other ideas for that. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3220_zps108d3071.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3221_zpsb85db586.jpg http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q580/wf6h/DSCF3222_zps017032f6.jpg

Ken
Your door is GORGEOUS! Thanks Holly Found that one in a online store - It was the right size (more or Less ) I really wanted to get one to see just how they built them , So I could build them in the future - Was really surprised at the quality of workmanship in it.. And at that price can't see making them..

Dalesq
This is one of my favorite doors too. I've seen a screen door that matches it, but don't remember where. When I find it I'll let you know. Dalesq
It looks like you are planning a basket weave inlay? Beautiful. Can't wait to see it! Siding looks really nice and I like the porch boards. I'm falling for this house. Maybe I'll "borrow" some of your ideas for my Tennyson that I'm just starting. : )

Really funny but helpful .. Let your creative juices flow.. The basket weave is just a maybe yet not sure until I get to that point , It's subject to change several times by then LOL. Dalesq
Hi Ken, I know what you mean, I'm just starting the Tennyson and have changed my plans for it at least a dozen times already! I'm very visual, so I save images I find on the Internet to albums on my iPad that are for each house. So I keep the progress images and the inspirational images all together. I've been looking at how others have solved problems and creatively adapted their Tennyson builds on this forum--this place is a treasure trove of ideas, and it's great to be able to learn from people with skills like you and the others! Thanks for sharing your progress!

I have been thinking of the Diana ,here soon One of my drivers has a young daughter that always drops by to say HI - I'm thinking she would probably like something like that..
