thinkinlikegavroche
Help! I want to build a Victorian looking spiral staircase in my Primrose from scratch. Hoping to make it look cast iron-ish... I need something fairly simple that WON'T look tacky and won't take up much room. Not this fancy, but this sort of feel: http://img.archiexpo.com/images_ae/photo-g...teps-280182.jpg or http://www.loftcentre.co.uk/media/catalog/...i/vict2_3_2.jpg or http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...bJqaU0QHisrnGCA
Audra
I think you can do it. I made a spiral staircase (in my Winston Cottage gallery) It is nothing fancy. I imagine if you paint whatever it is you can find to make it a flat black, it would look great. What about getting the railings You could get sections and cut them down: http://www.miniatures.com/6-Pc-Wrought-Iro...nce-P19456.aspx I tried to find other sites that have some plastic, but couldn't. queenannediva
Would LOVE to have the second one in miniature! Good luck with your project. Valerie
minikelli
In regards to the first pic -- looking at it the center pole looks ver much like wood turnings I've seen in both hardware and craft stores. Then you could use smaller dowels and either embellish with some beads or clay to get the spindle definition. //last but not least some wires twisted together for the handrail... jennybee
Good morning Toni, It seems to me I saw a tutorial somewhere and they cut pieces of an old style fan and made them into the steps. a fan like this old style fan I would think you could get a piece of heavy gauge wire or thin metal rod to use as the pole and then use mini wooden spindles as the spacers between each step like the picture here. example Here is a tutorial someone did... Spiral tut Also Greenleaf had a spiral tutorial in the gazette a while back but I can't find the archive version :thumb: I hope this helps and good luck I soo love spiral staircases. Yes you did, it's in an old book I have stuck away somewhere, can't remember name. It was a Victorian outdoor conservatory type scene. I'll try to find the book if anyone is interested. sparklepuppies
Look in Kelly's (rodentraiser) Washington album. She shows how she made a spiral staircase. http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/i...&album=1709

JPete
They sometimes sell the fans at Michaels stores. Maybe the bridal section. You can use them for stair treads and other things. Mine are tan but you can paint them.
havanaholly
Get yourself a couple of the filigree fans. They're available in balsa as well as plastic (you'll want to use black flat aerosol paint, like Rustoleum, if you're painting plastic), and you can use the ribs for balusters as well as treads.
