Elsbeth
Well, I got tired of waiting for someone to make that battery powered fire and sell it to me, so I made one myself. I got a small florists LED (1+ inch around, tho I wish it was smaller), made tiny logs from a tree twig in backyard, and added glass beads to make embers. The light turns on by twisting the base, so the fire materials had to accommodate easy removal and replacement of the light. I love the glow. I think the only fireplace big enough for this is the Glencroft. This was way cheaper than buying one (assuming when they do start selling them they will be similar to the battery lights). Merry Christmas everyone - I'm being a dweeb and making stuff for the dollhouse! I can't escape The Call of the Tiny. minikelli
Ummm... you weren't alone -- though I was commissioned by a 4 yr old for shelving. After delivery though, well the tiny kept calling -- still making bits of furniture for her and her house. lol Have to say though -- great idea with the fireplace!!! Where however did you find the light? I know you said it was a florist's led, just wondering where you may have obtained it from?
Elsbeth
I found the light online - but I am sure if one spent the time (I am horribly impatient) one could find a local source. Maybe. Everything I saw in the stores was just too big. And I wanted a cool bulb...nothing hot (fire hazard for the paranoid!). I got my small light here: http://www.100candles.com/ came with an extra battery. They have many different sizes - though I would like something even smaller. The amount of light it puts out is awesome - and the amber bulb is very warm. I feel more experiments coming on...BBQ grill maybe, campfire, lit stove...who knows! I also thought about trying to find flickering lights - I'll bet they are out there, but the size is tricky. Commission work for the 4 year old - that must be fun! My mother used to make matchbox chest of drawers...so cute. I love seeing how much children love minis.
Elsbeth
I just went to that web site and notice they have a new tea light that has a button on top as well as the twist action...and it has regular, flicker, and blinking modes. I am totally going to try a flickering fire next! The casement diameter is 1.13 inches. I still want smaller!
DHGranny
Neat idea,it looks great too. :o I decided I wanted light in my Rosedale in the front of the living room so I went to Radio Shack and bought some tiny little led flashlights. One was kinda chunky but just the right height,I wrapped it in granit printie and made a shade for it,now it stands next to the fireplace...looks kinda cute.Shoot, the way money is I new that is the only way I'd get a light in there.I even looked it up and there are really "pillar lights".I also bought a mini mag light, just the right size for a 1" scale floor lamp.Where there's a will, there's a way

JaniceG
That is great! I wonder if there is a way to make ceiling lights out of those.
DHGranny
Janice,Radio Shack has these flat, tiny key fobs with an led light .They are 1 1/2" long,1" wide and slightly less than 1/8" deep.Only prob is you have to hold the button down to keep it on...I'm working on that though  Oh,they only cost 6 0r 7 bucks. Caseymini
Jenn! I love the fire! Great idea and you did it well! Dollar tree has several LED lights that are meant for book lights. At a dollar a piece, I am going to see what I can do with them. We all need to get our heads together ad see what can be done with the different options. I used one of the wall sconces that HBS is selling and I didn't like the thickness of the battery part. I cut a hole in the wall and pushed it in up to the switch. It was a wall that I added with foamcore, but I don't see why we couldn't do the same thing with the larger cases like Jenn used.
CatColorado
How cool is that! Great look too.
DHGranny
Casey, you have to be careful with the booklights.I had one,the type that looks like a flat bar, sorta. The kind you flip one end down and clip on the book.I decided to remove the part with the light to make it small enough to use, heck,it seemed to be self contained on that end.Didn't work after I took it apart. What kind do they have at Dollar Tree now?
Minis Over The Hill
Jenn, it looks wonderful, and so real. So all you need is that one light and no wires, correct? I love the idea of just being able to turn on the lights you want, like in a real house. Also, the idea of not having to rip out wallpaper when it doesn't work is wonderful too. Caseymini
April, our Dollar Tree had several types a couple of weeks ago when I was there. Every time I go in there is something different. They have those little disk touch lights with three in them and a couple of different book lights and also some key chains. Maybe they will start carrying dollhouse lights at a dollar a piece....We can dream, can't we?LOL
