pixiedrea
I dont' do much in the way of physical activity nowadays. I force myself to do at least 15 minutes a day of at least moderate excercise. This month's activity: Hip Hop Abs. Of course I look like I'm covered in ants and spasming wildly, not hot and hip like the folks on the DVD. heidiiiii
Went to the gym again today. 1.3 miles on treadmill in 20 minutes 1 mile on bike in 10 minutes. Fred is going with me on Sunday afternoon to show me how the upper body equipment works. There is already drama with the other two going...it is not me so I am staying out of it. lmgervais
Had a really lousy night last night, but I did get a short walk in this morning, and I am going to a mall with DH a bit later, so that will be more walking.
Shakyshaky
Didn't work out yesterday. Spent half hte day in errands and the other half trying to catch up. I'm going to work out today though.
Shy Spirit
No exercise yesterday - just a lot of standing. It was a draining day nonetheless. I don't feel like walking today, but I will make myself do a bit. Andrea, 15 mins a day is a very nice start to an exercise regime. Heidi, you were right to steer clear of the "problem" friend! You're doing so well! Liza, will the iron infusion help with your tiredness? I should think so. How often do you need it? I'm supposed to take iron pills for anemia - but for some reason I don't want to take them. Holly, you stay so busy - your body is being exercised all the time. How do you keep going? I know that you have aches and pains like the rest of us - to what do you attribute your success in keeping fit? Jeffrey, what a shame your DDR machine got damaged. I hope your mum is okay. She's irreplaceable! Melanie, I'll bet the running around and errands gave you some exercise yesterday. Don't discount what you did achieve! New Day
Finally got some walking in. I have been very busy and active this past week, but not really exercising. Today we went to 5 different neighborhood/community yard sales where we would park and then walk the whole neighborhood for the sales. We also hit one flea market on the way home, so lots of walking today!

lmgervais
Liza, will the iron infusion help with your tiredness? I should think so. How often do you need it? I'm supposed to take iron pills for anemia - but for some reason I don't want to take them. I have iron infusions because I cannot take iron by mouth - upsets my stomach too much. I was slightly anemic when I had my first two infusions last fall, but my kidney specialist suggested trying them to help with my restless leg syndrome, which interfers with my sleep. They helped last fall, so we decided to try another one. If it helps my legs, then I will get one about every three months. Last night was not a good judge of anything because, whenever I am over-tired, my legs bother me a great deal. Still very tired today, but hopefully I will sleep better tonight. Shy Spirit
I also have a dreadful time with Restless Legs Syndrome .... Do you know why the iron infusion helps? I hadn't heard about this idea. Hope you have a pleasant night, Liza.
lmgervais
I also have a dreadful time with Restless Legs Syndrome .... Do you know why the iron infusion helps? I hadn't heard about this idea. Hope you have a pleasant night, Liza. In most cases, restless leg syndrome is caused by an imbalance between calcium and potassium. For example, my legs get noticably worse if I eat a banana or drink orange juice two or more days in a row - too much potassium for me. According to my kidney specialist, there have been studies that show that having adequate iron in the body may reduce the symptoms of restless leg syndrome. Unfortunately, I am not certain why, nor am I certain that researchers know why. As I said earlier, being over-tired also makes my legs a lot more restless at bedtime - used to happen at any time during the day and not just to my legs. I also take meds to help them - ones developed for Parkinson's disease - plus two others. Also helps with the shaking of the hands that I used to get quite often. heidiiiii
My friend Donna remarked and asked me yesterday about the effects of the exercise. She asked if I noticed that I felt better. I said that I did. She does too. Meaning in the sense of our mobility. I never had mobility issues until the sciatica. Except for the foot/back thing, I am almost 100% back to normal. She says she feels like it is getting easier to walk. We had said that we are not going to do it on the weekends. She is way too busy to even eek out a portion of time to do it either day. I am being visited right now so I WANT to go today but I do not know if I will. Are you all doing it 7 days a week or do you give yourself a day or two off? Have you all noticed anything? I am not even saying like clothing fitting better just the way you feel or the way you move. I am getting better with the treadmill wobblies. When you are starting off, you feel jelly legs and kind of off, when you first get off the treadmill. It takes a few seconds to stand still for it to go away. I was told that EVERYBODY goes thru that.
lmgervais
Heidi, I go for a walk 7 days a week, but then my walks are short as I am not used to physical exercise and I tend to tire easily. I was fine the first week or so, but now find that being outside everyday has started to make me feel very tired. I used to stay inside most days, only leaving the house when I needed to go buy something or to drive one of the kids somewhere. I'm just hoping that this tired feeling will go away soon. However, I generally find it a lot easier to go for my walk and would go a longer distance if I wasn't so tired when I got back home. Legs are definately changing as I feel muscles now that I never thought about before.
heidiiiii
I was in a wicked bad mood on Friday and did not want to go. I was dragged kicking and screaming to the gym. It changed my mood. I was happier after I left the place. The tired feeling will go away after awhile. I had that. I practically passed out. I get very hungry after the gym. So I am making sure what I eat is something good. It is usually a big salad with some protein or a Veggie Delight at Subway. That Jarrod guy lost all his weight eating the foot long veggies for dinner every night and a 6 inch of something else during the day. I am not going to that way. But it is very very filling. I have them only give me half the amount of cheese on it and there is oil and vinegar as a dressing.
Jeffrey
heidi i get like that too but the excercise puts you in a good mood.
Shy Spirit
I try to walk outside every day - Friday was an emotional day, so didn't take a walk then. (It was a very busy day, too - lots of driving, standing, and crying - my uncle's funeral.) I know that I should be going a little further now, but I'm taking it slowly. I don't feel better yet as far as muscles and my body in general - but I have noticed some clothes are fitting me differently. This thread is helping a lot - it keeps me on track! I think it's wonderful that we are all doing what we can, and sharing the different ways that we approach our exercise. If we got together as a physical group, we couldn't all be doing "our thing". We'd have to compromise and adjust what works for us, to include everyone. Being an online group actually gives us more freedom to design our individual "workout". New Day
I agree Rosalind. This is a great way for us support each other, even though we are all in different places. I walked 40 minutes on the treadmill this morning. It flew by, as I was watching some of Mamma Mia for the 1st time. It's a cute movie! heidiiiii
I want to go to the gym today but I will see how I am later on...Seriously, I cannot wait until this stuff is all over and done with..5-10 more years and I will be happy! Got an interesting email this morning. Remember my friends and I signed up for a free personal training consultation? It is for tomorrow. My trainer emailed me to say she no longer works there, has her own business, and it trying to lure me to her side. Kinda unethical if you ask me. She did say something interesting. She said all the personal trainers there are as of yet uncertified. I do not think I want somebody that may not have a clue what they are doing, showing me what I should be doing. I am going to call and cancel today. I didnt want to do it in the first place. I just wanted to go and do what I know. I used to be physically fit many moons ago and it is like riding a bicycle..you never forget. I actually was telling Donna she needed to up how fast she was walking. She was still walking in what is called warm up mode. I did not want her to force herself to cardio like me, but pick up the pace. She did and did not suffer one bit. Umm..I wanted to be delicate about the situation because there are men on here too. Think about it. Cannot exercise. I am 40. 5-10 years and it will be over with, maybe...hint hint. lmgervais
Got my walk in this morning. A little chilly this morning and the wind was enough to bring tears to my eyes when I was walking into it. Still, felt good to be able to say to myself that I have not yet missed even one day since I started this journey of walking. Now, just have to get to the point where the walks get longer! havanaholly
Holly, you stay so busy - your body is being exercised all the time. How do you keep going? I know that you have aches and pains like the rest of us - to what do you attribute your success in keeping fit?I have a DH who loves to play outdoors as much as I do, so having a playmate makes it lots easier! Friday we got to our campground and set up and after lunch we took The Kid with us (DS#3; he's 36, I guess I should stop calling him that...) to Americus and walked him all over the Habitat for Humanity Global Village. It looks like they've been having some vandalism, which really makes me more than a little angry! Saturday we went over to Sylvester, GA, to the library to see the memorial to DH's uncle and then we went out to lunch with his widow and heard all about the family drama... Later on the way back we stopped off at the Albany Flint Riverquarium and all of us toured that. In addition to the river and various water ecosystem exhibits we were able to tour the aviary and the alligator tanks. The place was full of kids and it was lots of fun! Yesterday we all went to church with DH's momma, etc, and then to the family plot at the local cemetery, where we met up with family members from Lakeland, FL (MIL's nieces who are older than she; she was the "baby" of her daddy's second dozen children), and we all went out to dinner together. When we got back to the camper, DH & I both crashed and took naps. The activity helps me with the pain, as anti-inflammatory & other OTC pain-reducers tear up my tummy. Doiing needlework helps with the osteoarthritis until the joints sieze up. It helps that I have a very high pain threshhold, too.
