havanaholly
On our trip we paddled about 5 miles on Rocky Bayou & Rocky Creek, we did three days of hiking while at Big Lagoon State Park that were 5-7 miles each, plkus a couple of "walking" days in town, and another 6-mile paddle + a 3-mile hike while camping at Falling Water State Park before coming home. Today would have been a "walking" day (like yesterday, running errands), but my innards wouldn't play nice. Gotta stay home tomorrow, UPS is supposed to be bringing me a pressie from Kathie! Shy Spirit
Congratulations, Lyn - you and Steve are doing really well! (Thanks for your hugs and prayers.) Hope you feel better soon, Heidi and Holly. Liza, why don't you read over this thread? It may remind you of why you started walking in the first place, and the special times you and your DD have shared. I know how powerful our emotions are, and how they control our bodies .... seeing the happy posts you've made on here could give your spirits a boost. lmgervais
Liza, why don't you read over this thread? I know how powerful our emotions are, and how they control our bodies .... seeing the happy posts you've made on here could give your spirits a boost. Ok, Rosalind, after reading your post it gave me the push I needed to actually do something today, so I went straight down and did 1.5 miles on the bike - still huffing and puffing a bit. The reason I was so tired this morning is because DH and I stayed up later than usual last night watching the movie "The Rookie" - a feel good movie. I will go back to walking to the bus stop with my DD, probably tomorrow. I think the reason for the mixed up emotions has to do mainly with the stress about my MIL. We are all stressed about it to varying degrees. She was supposed to have had only a few days to live about a month ago, and was moved to palliative care. Now, here we are and she is back to eating some solid food, although it still makes her sick, so we are in this constant waiting pattern of wondering how long she will live and what part of our lives will have to be re-organized when we take off for about a week for the funeral, etc. She lives 5 hours away. Also, there was some disappointment with my sons regarding Mother's Day. We don't do anything different on these days, but the kids usually wish us a happy day associated with whatever occasion it is. My 10 year old completely forgot it was Sunday - he thought we were still Saturday. And my almost 16-year old never said a thing. DH spoke to both of them at breakfast yesterday morning, and they eventually came and said sorry, but the hurt was already there. But, enough said about that. lmgervais
Just got back a few minutes ago from my usual morning walk with my daughter.
havanaholly
Yesterday was much better. One problem is that my doctor changed the time on my Lipitor so I take it in the AM instead of in the evening; I'm going to discuss that with him, as I read somewhere it makes people drowsy and I have noticed a big difference in my AM energy level since taking it in the AM. lmgervais
It's really windy here and spitting rain, but I went for my walk with my DD as usual.
Shy Spirit
Liza, I'm really glad that you are back to taking those walks with your DD. I'm going to try a walk tomorrow. Today I've spent a lot of time in the garden, weeding. The week spent at my Mum's place gave the dandelions, etc. time to get a strong hold. I'm not a great gardener - but I hate to think the dandies might go to seed, and infest my neighbours' gardens. (Both sides are impeccable gardeners.) It's a very sunny day here, with huge gusts of wind. The fresh air is helping to clear my mind. I'm just inside for a little break.
lmgervais
Stayed up way too late last night (almost midnight), so I am very, very tired this morning. I even fell asleep on the couch while waiting for the kids to go to school. However, DD decided that I should still go for a walk, so she woke me up in time for me to get dressed before she needed to leave. So, yup, got that walk in again. P.S. I wonder who she is working for - telling me when I need to go for a walk, that I can't buy marshmallow bananas at the store, when I'm allowed to go to bed and tucks me in, etc. Maybe it's just the mothering instincts in her! LOL
heidiiiii
I did not exercise all week. I have been down plus my work out buddy has basically quit, I think. I will be back at it again tomorrow! I bought myself a couple new pairs of work out pants and some new socks. So I am all set to go. I will go in the mornings from now on. Shy Spirit
Good for you, Heidi - it will be nice for you and Fred to spend that time together. Liza, your DD sounds like a wonderful, caring girl. I expect she learnt her "mothering" techniques from you. Lyn and Holly - how are you both doing? I'm still in limbo, but working my way through it. I miss my Dad soooo much. lmgervais
Stayed out too late Friday night, so I was way too tired for exercising on Saturday. Sunday I did a bit, but not much. Today is a stat holiday here, so no school, but I did do 1.5 miles on the exercise bike before breakfast.
LLyn M.
Wow, another great site I've discovered.! Hi All, I must admit that any strenuous exercise hasn't crossed my mind yet but I have cut down to 4-5 cigarettes a day. And maintained that amount for the last couple of years. Not ready to quit altogether. (Used to smoke a carton a week) Enough said, now I've started the South Beach Diet which I like very much. Did it years ago and lost 50 lbs. but then decided to cut back on the cigs-moved to Texas (from CT.)and it was the Holiday Season with all its Carbs and sugary goodies and BLOOEY forgot all about eating well. That's my excuses. So now I have a renewed interest in being healthier. Hear, hear to us all.Oh ,does pushing away from the table count as exercise?? lmgervais
Oh ,does pushing away from the table count as exercise?? Sorry, doesn't count unless you use the table as a support for doing pushups - LOL!
havanaholly
does pushing away from the table count as exercise??Provided you leave enough behind on your plate it might be a start. It's been too rainy here to play outdoors, but I did get out to clean the camper yesterday AM! Mostly running stairs doing the bit between scraping & sanding old paint & paper off Mildred's parts and stitching on the new poinsettia rug. Tomorrow will be errands, running around all day long! julygirl56
Hi everyone. Been a bit busy here and didn't have time to post until now. Have had to go with Steve to a couple of eye appointments for my MIL. Her regular optometrist found that she was bleeding behind the retina in her right eye about 3 months ago. She lives 75 miles south of us and had to come up here to see a specialist. We met her last Tuesday for her 3rd visit and found out that she is now bleeding behind the retina in her left eye. My SIL brought her up for the appointment today, because I had a Doctor's appointment, down where my MIL lives. (My primary's office is there. We used to live down there 20 years ago.) My primary was surprised to see that I had dropped 7 pounds. He was pleased to find that because of that my blood pressure is down. (I have high blood pressure and have been on meds for 24 years.) Last visit in November it was 150/85,it's not usually this high, but sitting in his waiting room for one hour and 20 minutes past my appointment time aggravated me!!! It made Steve really late for work! Reading this time was 110/62. Best I've ever had. Hopefully with continuing exercise it will continue to drop and maybe, after all these years I can get my meds reduced or get off them completely!!!! I also had a blood test today to check my potassium level and my cholesterol. Cross your fingers for me that the potassium has gone up and the cholesterol down. Steve and I went to Cardio yesterday. Walked for his half hour dinner break yesterday and today. I also started doing sit-ups last Friday. I want to tighten up my tummy muscles. Might as well hit all the muscles and have the entire body be trim looking. ;) (in my dreams!!!) lyn

lmgervais
Have been at odds with my daughter since last night, so I did my 1.5 miles on the bike instead of a walk. Also went shopping.
lmgervais
Talked to my daughter this morning and everything is ok now, so I went for my usual walk with her this morning. Kids...they sure can stress you out sometimes!
Shy Spirit
Kids definitely have the power to break us - the trick is not to let them know it! I'm very glad to hear that you and DD are back to walking together. :groucho:
lmgervais
It was really warm here yesterday (hot & sunny), but cooler today. Got my walk in as usual. Not progressing much in terms of distance as I don't feel like it, but it does get me out of the house and gets this body moving for a short while. After I get home, it's breakfast while I check in here, then I usually try to go work on my houses for a while - this morning it was the Buttercup. Time for a break now, then maybe a nap! Shy Spirit
Spent yesterday with my Mum and my daughter. We got a lot of things done (shopping, picking up various forms for what seems like never ending paperwork for Mum to file, and visiting a sick friend), and at the end of the day we made a huge pot of our favourite soup so that Mum, my younger brother and his two boys will have a quick and tasty meal or two. (They are staying with Mum for the weekend.) I was on my feet a lot, so it felt like exercise - even though it doesn't really count.
