The Gatehouse Project

I'm starting a blog for this years Dolls House Emporium creation competition . They're using their Gatehouse kit and figured I might be helpful in advertising it with a blog. I get a free kit, I don't get to enter the contest, hmmmm,...oh well, good practice for me if I ever write a book about dollhouse building.

I'm figuring on maybe turning my Gatehouse kit into a nuthouse, yes a nuthouse.

If you want to see what I mean by that, you can go read the blog.

The kit arrived, I've opened the box and will most likely start work on it of some kind tommorrow. I will be posting pictures and construction notes as I go along.

When I read your post originally on the DHM forum I was visualizing a "Mr Peanut"-type house. If y'all want to EAT the walnuts, I've had very good luck getting the shells to split neatly in two, and glue back together (we made them into Christmas ornaments one year, expecially nice srayed metallic colors, glitter, etc).

Grazhina, why won't Paul let you enter the contest? How sad is that!

Holly, she is doing a blog for them so she is excluded just like I am from the contest here. I think it is a wonderful opportunity myself and I must confess....I bought one  !! I could not stand back and not buy it. It is so darn cute! I bought the market cross a couple of years ago and love it (It's still not put together ether :) ) I know Dean & Linda are laughing at me cause I am hording houses LOL. Last years project did not move me much but this years creatin contest project at Dhlls house emporium of the gatehouse called to me. It made me buy it. :)

Thank you grazhina for posting more details on this house and I will follow your blog for sure!

Grazhina-

I love your idea to turn the gatehouse into a squirrel's lair. We have a squirrel that feeds out of our bird feeder. He loves peanuts. It's a favourite food for squirrels in our city because they raid the same feeders that cater to bluejays. Bluejays love peanuts in the shell.

Our Wildbird Store sends out a newsletter from time to time. One story they told was of a squirrel out at Lake Wabumum that made his nest/lair in the rafters of a boathouse. It seems that squirrels are very neat and organized. The squirrel had laid his food (and other things he had gathered) up in the rafters. The items were placed evenly spaced apart. Food items were on one rafter and other collections were placed on the other rafters. On one rafter there were dead birds, spaced evenly apart, beaks pointing in one direction and tails in the other.

Another person wrote in about a squirrel who made his nest in their garden shed where sunflower seeds were stored in a bag. In the Spring the owner noticed that all of the sunflower seeds had been emptied out of the bag. On one side of the shed were all of the uneaten sunflower seeds (sans shells). On the other side of the shed were the shells neatly stacked. The squirrel had also stuffed leaves, mud, dryer lint, grass, and twigs in a number of the cracks in the shed's walls.

They're really quite an amazing little rodent.

I had some time to start the Nuthouse today. I've posted a new blog entry and I've begun an album. Sometimes I'll be adding entries everyday, sometimes days might go by that I'm busy with other things, but if you're interested drop by and see how things are going.

You can leave comments or questions here, or my clicking on "comment" at the end of the blog entries.
