Minis Over The Hill
Can anyone tell me how to do a shabby chic floor? Do you paint or stain, put a darker color underneath, etc? Thanks for any pointers.
Muriel
Do you know what style of floor you want? like floor boards or tiles or...?
Kitten
I would either do an aged white-washed effect OR keep the wood more of a natural color, maybe a pickled effect.
Sherry
I've seen wooden floors whitewashed that look great in country shabby houses. Lots of chintz and flowers, too!
avidcrazyquilter
I agree white washed wood floors would look great! Julie

havanaholly
A friend of mine bought an older house that had a carpet paiinted on the hardwood floor in the parlor.
Minis Over The Hill
What a great idea, painted on rug, but I think for this, I want plain flooring because the wallpaper is very busy. Just got the wide craft sticks at Michael's today. How do you do the whitewash technique? Do you have to underpaint with a darker color or something so the whitewash will show? Corwin
I would stain it dark then white was over that. . . A thicker wash probably.
Muriel
I white washed some popsicle sticks for the wainscotting in my willow. I just watered down white paint and painted the mixture on. You can still see the grain through - it is a bit like staining it white instead of staining it dark. Can take a closer picture if you want. Sherry
Just a white wash and then sand in the traffic areas.
havanaholly
Dilute your white 'way, 'way down. You can stain if you wish, but I don't think it's necesssary. Actually you could go with any color wash you want that would look good with your decor.
heidiiiii
I have done this with a couple houses. You can use basically any muted color that tickles your fancy...just do what Holly says and water it down alot.
Bree1978
I painted two of my floors with white and then scored them- wide plank. The natural color of the wood showed through doing it this way. Then I poly'ed them twice which gave an older (just a bit yellowed) look. I think it looks kinda shabby chic. The first photo that comes up in my gallery is one.
