Luanne
I am thinking about making a tree with big bark- i looked at real trees but cannot figure out how to transfer that bark pattern onto a paperclay tree. Often cuticle remover sticks, junk credit cards can be used to create lines. What should I use for tree bark pattern? Thanks a bunch. havanaholly
You could use a wire brush for texture and then beginning at the bottom, drag the clay downward a bit, randomly from row to row , until it looks like your RL sample.
Luanne
Thanks Holly. I think that'd work out well.
Rosie Rabbit
Check out how they made bark texture and color on this Wizard of Oz-type "scary tree": Mini Motion "Scary Tree" Scroll down to the bottom, where she makes the lines and paints the dry tree. Starfire
Wow how timely. I am beginning to work on the huge oak tree that covers the terrace of my Elrond's Library project. I am using one of those metal Halloween spook trees as the base and was wondering how to get the bark effect to look real. Thanks for the info. Intrinsicat
This one from Jackie, which won the 2007 Spring Fling was also a detailed (and really amazing) paperclay tree: Jackie's tree

chesterfieldzoo
I used the bandages with plaster on them for my tree. The bandages are for making casts. You can get them at any medical supply or online.
