IAK
I quit working about four and a half years ago to stay home and babysit my grandsons. Best job I ever had, even though I get no money. Ahhhh my DREAM job! But that will be in the future. I work for a dentist, actually specialist endodontist! Yes lots of Root Canal. Anyway been working there for 27 years now but only part time as I raised my 4 daughters. Used to dental assist and over the years have worked my way to the front desk. Been the office manager for the last 5 years and I do that while only working 2 days a week. I do babysit my 2 grandsons every other Thursday at my daughters home which is 1 1/2 hours away and usually spend the night; its a great way to spend time with them. Been weening my way down to retirement. When more grands come I will be leaving and hopefully spending more time with the grandkids. Can't wait! Lisa R.
I have a BSc in Astrophysics. I retired in 2000 after working in the high tech industry for toooo long. Went back to school and learnt tonnes of fun new things (incl. Historic Presevation, Interior Design). Picked up the mini bug. I went back to work part-time at the beginning of this year as a Collections Manager of a small history museum. It doesn't make a living but it does pay for the gas! Lisa R. Missymew
I work as Executive Assistant to a City Councillor (city of approximately one million people). About 12 years ago I found that I didn't have enough time for myself (job is very demanding .... enjoyable ... but demanding), so I went into a job-share arrangement. The city councillor that I'd worked with since 1988 retired last Fall, but I was retained by the new Ward Councillor. Once again, I'm fortunate to have a job-share relationship. I also receive full-time benefits for a 20 hour a week job. It's really too good of a deal to walk way from. My contract also delivers RRSP funds directly into my account. My husband will retire in May of 2009, but I'll work for a few more years. I'm 7 years younger than Ray, and I just love my job. -Susanne
Starfire
I am retired now but in the past, was a military officer, then military wife who worked wherever my DH was assigned. In the process raised three kids and anchored family while husband was elsewhere. My jobs were as a management analyst for AF, Navy, Army and NASA. Took early retirement (down sizing buyout and got a BA degree in Interior design to design our retirement home in addition to two my earlier graduate degrees (MBA and MSIS). Ran the business side of our company until we sold out to another company. Now I work on miniatures, write and volunteer with a program for mentoring and supporting a group of at risk high school kids. Also work with a breed specific dog rescue group. Seems like I am just as busy as I ever was.
Anna
Hmmm, am a teacher for kids age 7-13, and right now my main tasks are Swedish as a Second language and computer (do you call it science or???) as well as being a support person for my fellow collegues in the computer communication system we are implementing as a tool of communicating between the school/teachers and home/families/students and have apprx 90-100 persons to educate/tutor so they feel comfotable with that for the upcoming term. While studying I worked extra hours as a temp for the municipal parking supervising departement (ie parking fines, the works...) I have also worked extra selling shoes and at a copying place also while studying. Now I am trying to build a small part time mini (LOL) "business" as well as discussing with my hubby's firm about the possibilities of working part time for them tending to the books, we'll see as that means I need to cut back my hours teaching... Peggi
For the past 31 years I've worked for a quasi-governmental Regional Commission as a secretary, secretary/bookkeeper, and for the last 20 as the Administrative Assistant--I often refer to myself as the Head Gopher, what ever needs to be done, I either do it or make sure it is done by someone else. Our job is to take care of our member city and county governments.
