What are you up to today? This week?

Recommended Posts

Getting ready to leave and go move the kids up here. We have childproofed everything in sight, put up the breakables, bought loads of milk and fruit.

I love my grandbabies and am very grateful we have a place for them until they can get jobs and a house of their own. At the same time-between not having my house to work on, and worrying about the son in Iraq, I am a basket case. I know Chris has not had time to call, and they are probably restricted to calling or using the internet at certain times-but I can't stand not hearing from him. I have got to find something I can do with myself that the little ones won't get into and that will take my mind off things!

I started laying pavers in our front yard yesterday. My DW doesn't like walking in the grass from the car to the front steps, so we're getting about a dozen pavers that look like cobblestone, each pa

The appointment with the osteo went very well. He looked, listened and paid attention and when I had questions, he answered them. And when I asked him if he saw the root cause he immediately said,

Good morning! Little Jude came ahead of his scheduled c-section date and arrived yesterday! He is so incredibly wonderful, sweet baby slept in peoples arms all day long yesterday.

Sherry,

Do what I am doing. Get some Gallery Glass, look up patterns online, and make some stained glass panels for your dhs. You do not need alot of space (a tv table is good) and they can be put up to dry, away from small hands.

I bet you are really excited about all the gk time you are going to have!

Have a happy date night, Heidi, DH & I did that last night, went to our favorite pub for supper & people watching before going to buy groceries (Publix has still not gotten in their large cartons of their brand of Egg Beaters!), and we ran into the lady who works at our favorite bicycle shop in Tally, and they're having a clearance sale of all their Trek cycling clothes (Trek has stopped making cycliing clothes, for whatever reason); plus we need to stock up on some more anti-chafe cream (when you put it on your feet before a hike it prevents blisters!). So I guess that's what we're doing later today.

We called DS and he has three happy kitties at his house, Gizmo & Midnight have moved out of the sofa! and into the cat condo. I harvested some of the catnip that grows randomly throughout the greenhouse yestarday and made three catnip "mice" for them.

I folded a piece of felt in half and cut three half-teardrop shapes between 1.5" - 2" long by 1" - 1.5" high and sewed along the cut edges with matching thread in blanket stitch. I also cut three pieces of yarn 2.5" - 4" long and tied a knot near one end of each. When I got halfway I took some fiberfill and used the closed scissors to ram some into the pointed end, then I fluffed out the rest and put a sprout of catnip in it and folded it all up and finished stitching the "mouse" closed; a bit before the end I poked the knot end of the yarn into the "mouse" and finished sewing it closed, making sure the stitches went through the knot in the yarn, too. Then I super-glued googly eyes on each side near the pointed end. I had a wee bit of fur and I glued that behind the eyes on one of the "mice". If I find where my craft feathers got off to I'll glue a couple to one of the others. I think/ hope I have a little jingly bell I can sew to the third one, otherwise I'll use a button.

I love making toys!

My grand plans for today involved laundry that has been piling up while we played hospital roulette and paying bills. But when I checked email, I had a message that led me to some old family photos that I've now copied and will post on our genealogy website. It's already past noon. No laundry done. No bills paid. Oh, well ... :)

Just got back from the casino. Pockets are lighter but we had fun. We went with noodle bowls and dim sum. It was sooo goood. Towards the end we split a slice of carrot cheese cake.

Going to relax a bit before we go out to the movies. There is going to be plenty of snow to be hand tomorrow and Monday. Good thing there is no school on Monday.

Anyone have any ideas to stop sneezing? I've never sneezed so much in a day in my life!! just constant sneezing! Nose is partly blocked, so I'm breathing through my mouth quite a lot. Have to try and stop it, cause find it difficult sleeping while breathing through my mouth. But sneezing gets worse when I'm breathing through my nose :)

Today we finally put new slats on the bed frame. Broke one of the slats that came with the bed about a year ago. Hasn't really bothered me too much, it is down towards my feet. Anyway, mummy and sister decided it was dreadful and gave me some money towards a new set from Ikea for christmas. Got them a couple weeks ago, but haven't really had the time and desire to get them out of their boxes. Decided to do it today. Well turnes out not all beds are the same length! I'd measured the width, but the length I hadn't done - the matress fits, so must be a standard size. So had to saw some lenth off. Both saws we could find didn't cut straight. A new one had a loose blade that couldn't be tightened any further, and so cut crooked, and the other saw just cut very crooked - and putting the new blade on the old saw didn't help. So spent ages trying to cut 8cm off 4 bits of wood - very wobbly cuts. Chris was not that excited about the new slats because he kinda felt we were doing ok with the broken ones, so got frustrated very quickly at them. Anyway, about 4 hours later we have lovely new slats on our bed, can even adjust the softness/hardness of them! That was what I did today. Haven't done any dollhousing, but did do some catching up on the forums/emails.

Decided what film you're going to see Heidi?

I have a story about bedslats I cannot share on a family-rated forum...

We had to get out of the house today, running have-to errands last Monday and DH's court appearance Thursday threw our entire week out of whack, so today we hit two regular Good Will stores and the Good Will Bookstore, and Books-A-Million. I was able to find the new MC and a woodturning magazine at BAM. We stopped at Lowe's and got two new locksets keyed alike for DS' house. Good Will had lots of goodies, at one I found two breyer horses and a Barbie horse, and at the book store I found two needlework books I can use for miniature applications.

So happy to read about the outcome of the eviction Holly!!! Now he can slither away somewhere else and not bother those poor little kitties! And speaking of that, your new made toys gave me more inspiration to make mini toys as well, thank you!

Today is another one of those days one is soooo happy that the houses are hollow as it is windy just around freezing temperatures and we got a sprinkling of snow during the night, bleuch!

Have some cooking to as we will be having company over this afternoon but until then it is mini-ing and whatever else I feel up to do LOL

Hugs

I am so stupid. I ran out of coffee grounds yesterday and did not buy any and now it is snowing. So I am doing the unthinkable....Drinking yesterday`s coffee. Reheated. I have to. My CFS medication is on back order at the pharmacy and I need something to keep me in an upright position. LOL It really isnt THAT bad but it really isnt that good either. :)

We never went to the movies. We enjoyed the no-kid zone. I watched tv and Fred used the computer. He said it felt weird being on at night with no one breathing down his neck..hahaha

Today I am going to put the finishing touches on the stained glass panel that I did yesterday for the Pom. and then take a pic of it. I will work on the other one next. As for anything else I am going to do. I do not know. We have the house to ourselves. No wonder what we may do. We could rearrange the furniture or lay around watching TCM all day. This has been a great weekend so far! :birthday:

The important function of a date is spending one-on-one time with your sweetie! I'm so glad y'all had such a good time.

I don't want to spend another day running around in the d*** cold. I have so many needlework projects I can (and should) be working on, and I got most of the TT bed made yesterday (two more major gluing sessions & it's done!). I need to disassemble the Michael's hutches I bought the other day. I'm making this TT with the hard awning it comes with, which I'm still trying to figure how to make it a "working" one, so I made a frame for the opening to can make a screened opening for when the awning's up.

Last trip to the store I got some puff pastry sheets, I think I'll make shrimp pies for supper tonight.

The snow is back! Ack!

I just made a bowl of buttermilk pancake batter. Nice stack of pancakes with warmed syrup. Mmm.

I hear you Holly. I am sick and tired of this cold. At least with the snow came warmer temps (32 deg F). I cannot believe I am saying that is warm. LOL

Spent yesterday packing, loading, and driving the pickup 4 hours home to get the kids all moved up here. Then we set up 3 beds in the spare rooms, made soup, went to bed. This morning every inch of my body hurts from my sinus headache down to my swollen ankles! I'm too old for this stuff anymore.

Mmmm Shrimp pie sounds good! Chris has just put roast in the oven. He is a very reluctant cooker. If it takes more than 5 minutes (and i mean 5 minutes) he gets annoyed and moans. But he likes dinners that take ages to cook. Forgot to get potatoes (was going to get them at a different store, but then got a phone call and stayed in the car while chris got frozen stuff, and i forgot potatoes) but we have two big ones, so said we could have baked jacket potatoes. He said why not fries, they're frozen and can just put them in. The idea of washing potatoes and putting them in the oven was too much effort compared to getting fries out of the freezer, putting some on a tray and putting the rest back :cold: I convinced him otherwise. Really need to get him cooking more, specially things that take a little longer!

What goes in your shrimp pie Holly?

It's basically a quiche, and I make it up as I go along, basically the shrimp (I'll cook them, since they're frozen), probably petit English (green) peas or spinach, a can of cream of mushroom condensed soup and two eggs, pour it all into a piepan (or two) lined with the puff pastry rolled out into a circle/s and bake at 350 until the custard sets.

I'm drying my last full load of laundry, we've already had rain. I'm defrosting the puff pastry dough and vegging in front of the TV with mini needlework. Has anyone read Greg Macguire's Mirror, Mirror? (He wrote Wicked) It's wierd, even by my standards of wierd.

Tonite it is pork chops. Sprinkled with home made steak rub, browned on both sides, then slowly cooked in a sauce of bbq sauce and ginger ale (i dont have any beer) with sliced sweet onions on top. Potato, early peas, and white sauce casserole, and cucumber/tomato/onion salad. I love not having any kids at home! Ahhh! I made extra just in case his friend comes over to watch football. Otherwise he can take it to work for dinner tomorrow. (I lucked out and bought the chops for $1.99/lb)

I spent a nice time with our own Jeff playing Animal Farm this afternoon. He visited my town and I visited his. Anyone else that has the game for Wii and has wireless access can PM your friend code.

Fred and I decided that we are not going to shovel the snow tonite. It isnt going anywhere and we can do it tomorrow morning when it is warmer.

I am still in my jammies! LOL I am going to take a bubble bath after dinner, read the paper, and watch some tv uninterrupted. Both the girls will be back home tomorrow so we are enjoying our time. Doing what we want, cooking what I want. Heaven!

Sounds like a great evening! I have spent the day with a sinus headache, and haven't done much. Went after groceries, did a little laundry, took a nap. I would love to work on my DH floors, but oh well. I'm trying to make a flyswatter for my pantry roombox. Who would dream it would be so hard to get the handle to look right? The flyswatter part wasn't bad, I used a small dice for the square and just wrapped the wire around it. Now if I can get some panty hose to stick to it for the screen part!

Now if I can get some panty hose to stick to it for the screen part!

Sherry, try stretching a piece of pantyhose by pinning it to cardboard or foamcore or similar on top of a piece of waxed paper. Then put a bit of white glue on the wire part of the flyswatter with a toothpick end or similar. You don't want it blobby. Place the flyswatter on the hose, cover with another piece of waxed paper, and weight it down with something. When it's thoroughly dry, use sharp little scissors to snip the fabric close to the wire. And maybe run a line of black magic marker over the wire on the fabric side so the fabric sort of disappears.

I think it will be easier to bring the wire to the fabric than try to stretch and glue a teensy bit of fabric.

Picture, please!

That's pretty much what I have in mind to do. I made 4 of these things before I was satisfied. My jewelry wire was too thick, so I dug out a smaller gauge. Then I realized that any wire was going to be too heavy for the wrap around on the base of the handle. So I got out some beading wire and used it for the wrap. It turned out pretty cute. If I can get into the guest bedroom today to get my glue, I'll put the screen (panty hose ) on it and show you what I ended up with!

Snow is awaiting for us to shovel. At least it is warmer outside today. No school (or bank, garbage) because of MLK jr b-day.

Chelsea came home last night with Chris. They drove thru the snow storm! On the highways!

Chelsea SAYS that this is just a friendship but Fred and I think it is more then that. Here is the kicker. The boy loves sports. LOVES them. He comes over last night and plops on the couch with Fred to watch the game. Chelsea came upstairs and asked me HOW I deal with this.

I said you either learn to enjoy it and join in, or you invest in more then one television set. LOL So he is a keeper in Fred`s book.

Nat stayed another night at her friend`s house because of the storm. Their mom knows our hill very well and she offered to bring her home but then decided against it cause it started to really come down.

The pork chops last night..O.M.G. They were so tender we could break them with a fork. It tasted like pulled pork. I am not a big fan of pork chops but this was amazing. The recipe is a keeper. Fred and I were fighting over the leftovers for today. He has his container for work, I have my container for lunch.

He bought me coffee yesterday too! :) Now I can get back to work on the stained glass windows. I hate relying on a pill to keep me mobile but it is a fact of my life now.

I really don't know how all of you deal with the constant snow. It would drive me bonkers!

I just zone out with the gardening catalogs. Plus, I have lived here my entire life. I was a child during the blizzard of 1976. You just roll with it as the winter progresses.

Also, I look at the fact that the sun is setting later in the day. Spring will be here before I know it. Dafs, Tulips, Crocus`, and spring bird calls.

I think if I was on the show The Actor`s Studio and was asked what my favorite sound is, that would be it. Spring bird calls in the morning.
