What are you up to today? This week?

Probably going to tackle my closet tomorrow. Over the last four years I have lost all of my menopause weight so there are a lot of clothes which I hope I will never wear again. Also, since I'm retired, I don't see the need for the dressy work clothes, anymore. Another problem is that I live in Florida, but love winter clothes. My closet is overcrowded with sweaters and boots which are usually worn one month out of the year. My fear is that once I clean this closet out, it will be empty. Generally, my current daily wear consists of yoga pants, a short sleeve shirt and sandals. So I guess I'll have a nice clean and spacious closet for a while, well at least until next January.

. Prayers and good vibes welcome!

And sent along with warm hugs and soothing thoughts. She's lucky to have you guys to do this for her.

The new dr may have real potential as she didn't flinch at my 36 item list of things to manage. She immediately said, "There are some things I can help you with and for the ones that I can't, I'll find you the doctor who can." That's a very positive sign. She's more educated about thyroid function and issues than the endocrinologists that I've seen in the past, including the one from Harvard. (I still say that someone had to be at the bottom of the class.) She said we'd work out a course of action for things in order of priority until we've addressed them all but she's starting with evaluating the meds I'm on and already identified two potential problems so that's also a good sign. I'll have all my labs done on Monday and see her again in three weeks to go over the results and make changes where they're needed. It's a good starting point and I like that she immediately knew how to approach that many skeletal, muscular, and systemic problems. Possibly most important of all, she listened to me without questioning that what I was telling her was true---something that I put to the test by deliberately not having my medical records for her. Holly, that takes a U-haul these days. LOL! She'll have them all by the next time I see her but it was important to watch her eyes and see problem solving rather than disbelief. She set me up with a hand specialist and I'll get that appointment set up tomorrow. So we'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm also exhausted and fell into bed as soon as we got home. We'd gone out to our favorite little mom/pop bistro for brunch (II had a killer chef salad) and then popped over to Ace where we happily dug thru the clearance bins of tools like a couple of kids. I picked up a few more aliens in the garden department, including a really interesting hybrid of one of my all time favorites that has all white blooms. I spent some time talking to the garden center lady about my newlings that were so damaged when I got them and she recommended some cactus juice fertilizer specifically for succulents so I'll be feeding the baby aliens first thing tomorrow. If they call me Seymour.........<giggling> I'll probably just dig it.

'Night all.

KathieB,God bless and wishing you and Lloyd all the best as you help his sister in this trying time-you are both wonderful for stepping up when she needs you most! I hope she does well swiftly!

Thank you for saying that Roxy-I sure get your aching back, bless your heart!! I am tired out again, but today was a better day for Mrs. B,and her siblings are communicating better and getting it together to help solve some issues that aren't my place to do-I would if I could! She told me today she just didn't know what she would do without me-brought a little tear. :) She has a night time caregiver and family to fill the gaps, but I honestly have a lot more laid on me right now, literally, and I am surprising myself that I am holding it together-but,she needs me! Not whining, because I am so glad to be working again-just taking time to adjust to having more to do right now as she heals. Just the way it is when you are a caregiver, but it IS rewarding!

Got a big shock today-my sister's oldest son, wife, and 4 year old daughter are moving to Virginia,to the wife's hometown. On one hand,I am glad for them as the wife's family will finally get to spend time with them and they have jobs waiting, but I am really gonna miss that little grandniece! :teary: She calls me 'Aunt Cat In The Hat'. :D We had a nice last minute family get together tonight and my older brother played us some of his new songs-he's got a 'weekend' country band and has been in a big writing mood lately-good stuff. NOT the old twangy, redneck crap most nonsoutherners equate with the genre!! :farmer:

Hope everyone sleeps as well as I hope to tonight! ^_^

KathieB - best wishes for you and Lloyd as you help your sister-in-law. It will be time well spent.

I forgot to mention that we also brought back a hide-a-bed sofa from Portland the other day. We had several muscled-male-type cousins to load it into the van for us - but no one available at the home end! We didn't get home till close to midnight, and my girl-cousin and I had to do all the work ourselves. We first wrestled the old one out of the guest room and onto the porch, then fought to get the new one out of the van and into the guest room. That involved a double trip through my home office and in the process we knocked my scanner off the shelf. Haven't had the courage yet to see if it still works :( So today I've been washing bedding, washed the cover that goes with the new sofa (new to me) and then couldn't figure out how to put it back on. It should be simple - drape cloth over sofa - all done! But it's got four sets of ties, fitted armrest corners, gathered ruffle - and nothing fits! Since it's all clean and pretty I just folded it and put it away. Vacuumed the sofa, washed the armrest covers - and we're ready for company! It's a La-Z-boy brand, old but well made. Haven't quite got everything back in place, but enough is enough for one day.

Haven't been on here much, dealing with some new health issues ( like I needed more :( ) started having balance issues and trembling / jerking of my hands and legs. They started me on some new meds that seem to be kicking in, I'm almost steady enough to start building again, so I'm tickled about that. :) Next will be a trip to the neurologist to see just what is gong on. But at least things are improving and I can get back to work on my minis :D

Stacey, I'm sorry that you're going thru all this. Neurological problems are scary, especially when body parts suddenly go flinging themselves around without warning. (That was the cause of the biggest explosion of a jar full of dill pickles I ever did see when my left arm went flailing around for no good reason) It's great that the new meds are helping and you're feeling well enough to work on minis. Even if our bodies don't feel it, we bring our world into balance when we build. I hope that your neuro is a good one and that he'll find the cause and a fix for it quickly.

I'm not sure what happened, but something is out of place in my hip today and it's bad enough to make me cuss. I seldom cry with pain, but I will turn the air blue at times. I can rate the pain by how many syllables I use. I think I got up to 8 today. :storm: It's just one of those days to take in stride........or in tiny steps which are much less painful. LOL!. Sometimes I can do a great Charlie Chaplin impersonation. It'll be better in a day or two.

I was sitting out on the patio this evening when Bruce started shining his flashlight on the wall behind me and said there were two little lizards climbing around. I said, "Oh yeah, that's Sam and Fred, the baby horny toad twins. They're out way past their bedtime coz they get up and go to work around 4:30 every morning". <chuckling> Even after fifteen years, he can still give me some really strange looks. LOL!!

Deb & Stacey, I wish you both a better day today. I sleep with three pillows to keep things from going numb in the wrong position, and DH got our doctor to refer me to an audiologist to see what was causing my balance issues (I'm just naturally klutzy) when I get really bad staggers I do some simple Tai Chi and otherwise I walk with a cane, more for my arthritic hips & knees.

Yesterday DH had some teeth pulled/ cut out, beginning much-needed OF dental work, so we skipped yesterday's grocery run. Today is nonstop thunderstorms, but we have to go buy groceries or run out of food, as tomorrow we're spending the day in the other direction watching the annual hotair balloon festival in Foley, AL.

I might as well jump in - I will be heading out to the patio with my Iced Tea, sit back enjoy the ocean breeze and Ponder my new build.. When you are retired you can do that :cheer::cheer:

<raising my glass of iced tea in a salute from my patio to yours> Here's to livin' the dream Ken!

I'm still hobbling today so I doubt that I get much more accomplished than wandering aimlessly but that's okay. Everyone needs a little aimless wandering from time to time. I'm going to stick my camera in my pocket and see if I can get some pics taken of the aliens in my garden and maybe a lizard or two if I can get Sam and Fred to hold still.

Thanks to all for the good wishes and kind thoughts. Ann Marie is doing better now that we're here. The pressure has lifted, and a dear friend made an elaborate chart of her meds and the med schedule to guide us. She has several meds to take as needed, but some meds can cause symptoms that indicate another med should be taken. We're monitoring blood pressure and oxygen levels to avoid getting into that loop, and it seems to be going well. She says she feels much better.

The big problem now is to get her to eat. Her doctor needs her to gain weight, but she only nibbles. She eats mac & cheese, and for lunch today got down some chicken noodle soup, a hard-boiled egg and a little raw tomato. I'll make her a smoothie this afternoon with kale, pineapple, coconut juice, mango, and some other goodies. She's taking both antibiotics and prednisone, so her taste buds are all kaphooey. Suggestions for nutritious tempting tidbits welcome.

The big problem now is to get her to eat.

My mother was pretty sick about a year ago - on oxygen and all the rest - and we, too, were trying to get more nutrition down her. She just nibbled. Several people suggested Insure (the canned drink that is supposed to have EVERYTHING in it) and when we saw the price we looked for an alternative. DH and I stood in the grocery store and compared, line by line, the contents of the expensive Insure and the contents of Carnation's Breakfast Essentials. (Used to be called Instant Breakfast) The ingredients are almost identical, and the breakfast drink is a fraction of the cost of the Insure brand. Mother liked it a lot (chocolate) and readily drank it. Sometimes DH would make it up in a smoothie with some fruit in it. Worked like a charm.

What about fruit yogurt? If she likes mac & cheese, I use whole grain macaaroni and slip in veggies along with the cheese (also stir in a couple of tablespoonsful of Greek yogurt). Does she eat oatmeal? Cinnamon and brown sugar can make it tastier.

I don't always feel like porridge in the morning, but an alternative is soaking the oats in full fat milk (+cream+sugar...) overnight. If you do it in the fridge it is then a nice cold alternative. You can add nuts and seeds and dried fruit to it too. And cut up some banana in the morning to have on top!
Avocado is good, as is hummus, both just to nibble or dip other nibbles in. Adding a tablespoon or two of cream or full fat yoghurt to soups helps with the calories and doesn't usually change the taste too much. You can add a few teaspoons of powdered milk to smoothies made with milk - again just a few more calories without changing the taste. (You can do this to any milk you use elsewhere)

Make sure she's not filling up with lots of water - fruit juices and milky drinks are a better alternative. I kinda feel like I'm telling you stuff you already know though!

Waiting for Mummy to message me back, she made me some great oaty seedy nutritious energy building biscuits/cookies for my first few days and nights in hospital after Allana was born. Tasted great and kept me going.

When I was on prednisone, I couldn't even stand the smell of anything sweet. I liked very flavorful things and I found I liked things I never liked before. (of course, when I went off them, I liked sweets again and hated the same foods I did before)

I think you are on track with the foods you are trying.

It's arctic here - about 60 degrees outside. Crazy for this time of year here. So today was indoor sports (dishes, cleaning).

That's what we did today! Put some water in first thing this morning to warm up and it was so difficult dissuading her from going in (it was still to cold). Managed 45 minutes, and then she had to go in....agreed it was a little cold to sit down! Loved it even more in the warmer afternoon with her cousin.

It has been thundering and lightning all evening, and raining. We so rarely get a thunderstorm that I have really being enjoying it :) Busy tomorrow, but hoping Sunday will be warm enough for more paddling (was mid 70s today)

I am so glad to read that this Dr might be a keeper Deb. I will cross fingers and toes. Chelsea is in California. She texted me at 2 am to let me know she landed. We are gonna strip her room, shampoo carpet, and paint it. Fresh digs when she comes home in August.

Very damp, rainy and buggy today. The weekend will be much better. I will make the man brownies and he requested breakfast for dinner for FD. He celebrated me, I will celebrate him

I had a "treadmill" day today! Picked up the phone to check on something, got transferred to a different department, and the call dropped between departments. Before I could call back, the phone rang with another urgent matter so I took care of that. Then I called another office about project #3, was placed on hold - cell phone rang before they picked up so I hung up on that call and answered the cell phone. It was DH and we talked for a half hour. By the end of the day I was scratching my head and wondering, "What have I done all day?" So after supper I rolled out my mini-work table and spent time in Miniland :)

Almost finished with one micro house, which I will be putting up for sale, and then I can get back to the bigger micro house.

Life is good when minis are on the table!

When my folks were going through things like this we used protein powders (found in drug stores or grocery stores) and added them to everything. As in, for the mac and cheese that she loves, we would add it to the sauce to increase the calories and protein counts. It comes in flavors but also in flavorless which is what we used. That way it didn't corrupt the items they did enjoy. Some of them can be used as thickening agents in soups and stews, etc. as well so it doesn't always have to be the sweet milk shake idea. We used the Instant Breakfast powder instead of Ensure and added ice cream to it for more calories.

Wow, there's been lots going on and by the silence, I suspect that everyone is out doing summer things now that the weather is nicer. Ken and Muriel, I love those backyard photos!! Heidi, I hope that you're out happily making mud pies, er, I mean, digging in the dirt to plant flowers and veggies. Selkie dearest, it's good to see you popping in, especially since you're in the midst of The Great Bathroom Remodel of 2014! When you get a chance, you'll have to update us on how it's going. Kathie, is your SIL doing better?

I'm sorry I've been quiet again, but the hip thing got a lot worse and I don't post when I'm taking pain pills because I seldom am able to put two sentences together in a coherent thought. It's gradually getting better but I'm not sitting up for long at a time and still hardly walking. I've dealt with chronic pain on a daily basis for years but this is bone-grinding-against-bone pain on top of the other pains so it's been a wee bit overwhelming. I've been listening to music, meditating, and binge watching Orange is the New Black to take my mind off of it. Today I'm going to start the new Stephen King book on audio and that should be pleasantly distracting.

I got the lab results back from my bloodwork and my TSH took a crazy leap up to 11.8. <chuckling> The nurse who called with the results laughed when I burst out with, "Well, no wonder I fell like <bleeeep>! This is good news because I'd hate to feel this lousy and be healthy!" LOL! Normal reference range is between 1 and 4 so this is way, way out there. It's not as bad as I was this time last year when it was in triple digits, but still bad enough to make me wonder how I've been able to get out of bed at all even before my hip went wonky. When I left Denver it had just started climbing from 5 to 7.2 so in six months I've gone from five to seven to almost twelve which is really amazing considering that I don't have a thyroid gland and my meds are strictly controlled. I see the new dr again in three weeks and find out what her thoughts are about how to handle it. In the meantime I'm not sure if I should feel depressed about it swinging back to bad when it was on track toward good; or if I should give myself a Super Woman suit just because I was able to pull off a cross country move when I'm this far into Hashimoto's territory. I think I'll go with the second option just because it sounds more like I've beaten the odds and that's important to me.

This morning I was able to get outside for a bit and took some of those long-promised pictures of my miniature alien plant life to show y'all for fairy gardens. I need to resize them but I'll try to post some later today. What's everyone else up to?

Cleaning !!! Just decluttered my living room and foyer.... Why do boys just drop their stuff at the front door? Half the stuff on my bench was their stuff.

I've been going thru my clothes as well, doing a drawar a day. Lol, trying to clean out this house after living here 10 years is no easy task.

Also, been working on the boys playroom, lol, they are 17 & 13 now, so there isn't much toys, but still too many when they rarely touch them. Lol. Oh and the Baseball equipment, oh my.!

I try to clean out at least one space a day. I've got 3 boxes ready for the thrift store. I hate taking stuff there because I always end up inside. I don't spend but a dollar or two, but I don't want anything else coming in the house.

I'm still decluttering and organizing the craft room, I really need to get rid of a lot more! I can't figure out how to organize it all. I believe a lot of it is 1/2". I don't have any 1/2 " house, and don't see any in the future.

We may be puppy sitting next week. our youngest sons girlfriend is going on vacation and they asked if we could puppy sit her puppy. I told her yes, but it depends on our dogs. They don't like other dogs, love kids! But other dogs they hate. They've never been around other dogs, our neighbors don't have dogs and no one in the family has a dog but us. So ours aren't dog friendly, they still fight each other. No one gets hurt but it sounds horrible. I hope they can get along for a week.

I am supposed to be out weeding. (shhhh don't tell on me) but I had to go in my email to look up a number to find out where a pump is so I thought I would pop in here. It just rained so the ground is soft. I have a day and then it's like concrete again and weeds will come up, but won't come out.
