Miss Poo is now 9 yrs old and Jaxon is 6....they are both super excited about getting a new cousin. I have been doing this and that crafting since we settled in

and now that I have completed my baby project I can return to getting settled in with all my goodies around me....My sweet DH was able to bring all of my stuffs and 2 of my completed houses and Catriona MHM which is next on deck for completion....Dean is currently in Truck Driving School and I am enjoying the grans....

of course they and we had nothing for them here and they brought very little...but slowly we are making our house a home for them....

:hippi:

Hey Deb...we are getting ready to have a tye dye party soon...going to do several sheets for Patio shade and for the back of the new playset we rehabbed for the grans and have about 8 onesies in various sizes to do for both babies...couple of shirts for the grans and I have dress I redye whenever it gets too faded...

Nutti, I also love your quilt and the fact you are making your house a home.

Yesterday I went to the IKEA store in Elizabeth, NJ for the first time, as a friend of mine likes to go there to walk around. I didn't think I would be that interested in the furniture, as my taste is more country/colonial or victorian, but I found many pieces suitable to my liking and that could work well with any style. I particularly liked the butcher-block kitchen counters, small kitchen tables that would fit in small condo kitchens, computer desks that hide your computer when closed, and a very pretty light blue sweater cabinet. I also thought the prices were reasonable.

So what did I end up buying. - A pig. In the children's section they had a several stuffed animals that were so soft, they were hard to put down once picking up. I have a friend whose birthday is coming up, and for whatever reason, she likes pigs. Maybe it is for the same reason I like mice. She has a lot of pigs in her collection, but this one is so soft, she can sleep with it.

Well, I unpacked the new pasta machine and started sketching some of the ideas I had accumulating in my head these past few days (while I couldn't do anything about it). I'll see about starting something this afternoon.

I'm hoping the weather will warm up enough this afternoon so I can sit out on the porch for awhile. We'll see. The Bradford pear trees' bloom have come and are almost gone, leaving behind their gorgeous scarlet leaves and berries to come, and my back yard looks like it's littered with light snow! I need to replace the chair cushions on my four patio chairs. Bought them from JC Penney when I moved in here, two years ago. The chairs are lovely (still), but the cushions have all but disintegrated! Disappointing, but replaceable!

Knowing that it's spring -- and seeing the sun shining -- makes such a difference to my psyche! I love it! I wish I could invite you all, my scattered GL family, to gather round and enjoy the season together, with good conversation, great ideas, good food and lots of fun -- not just hypothetically, but for real!!!

It seems like it is a late spring for everyone, Sandy; but the warmer weather is definitely on its way. Some of the perennial flowers that would normally be out at this time are just starting to make their presence, but it has been a rainy weekend in NJ, and psychologically that makes it seem colder than what it is. While the weather here isn't that bad, it doesn't compel me to want to go outside. So, I will try to finish the weekend by installing a new printer.

We ran into hiking friends Tuesday at the student jazz competition the Jazz Society of Pensacola holds every year to award $cholarships to outstanding music students in high school and college. The invited us to hike with them yesterday, but we had already made plans (the sausage festival that we had fun at, even if we couldn't get within a block of the sausage!); but they mentioned who was leading a hike across the Dune Trail just east of Pensacola Beach this AM; it's a 3 1/2 mile trail out through the dunes on the Sound side of the road, part of Gulf Islands National Seashore, and probably my very favorite section of the Florida National Scenic Trail; so that's what we did this AM. Because of all the recent rain the sand was lovely and firm, although picking our way around some of the places where water was knee-deep and deeper made for interesting adventures. No reptiles this trip (we usually see anole lizards and once a red rat snake, who was gorgeous), but birds, including a pair of redwinged blackbirds and some bald eagles fishing in the Sound.

We went to the craft show at Oak Alley Plantation this afternoon. Very disappointed with the vendors. Most of the jewelry tents were reselling commercial stuff. There was very little original art, and only a few artists in attendance; none were demonstrating their craft. The home made soap looked strong enough to blister and/or remove a goodly bit of skin. Home made jams and jellies looked like they were made in somebody's kitchen, and the vendors didn't look as if they cleaned the stove very often. No, thanks. With 145 booths, you'd think there'd be something worth buying. Lloyd bought a set of note cards for me and one for our friend Gloria. The sketches on them were not very well done and the sloppy printing didn't help. I'd seen them and passed them by. We've seen much more interesting and higher quality work at smaller arts and crafts fairs around town.

The shuttle buses to/from the parking area (several miles from the plantation) were slow. Gloria just about fainted from standing in line in the sun waiting for a bus. All in all, a disappointing afternoon. The food booths were nearly isolated by a sea of mud from recent rains, so we didn't even get over there. We headed back to New Orleans and stopped for supper as an excellent Italian restaurant. That saved the day. :)

I got excited about an Arts and Crafts Show I was invited to participate in last Saturday. I took my Treasures in a Teacup and 4 small log-cabin planters. The venue was in a mobile home lot, where they had regular mobile homes and then they had small cabins for sale also, the kind that would make a nice artist's studio or such. I think were all invited just as window dressing :( It rained all day, there was no heat in any of the cabins, we were all scattered throughout the cabins, one or two vendors in each - and the only bathroom was all the way across the parking lot in their office. Didn't sell a thing, but I did get some good exposure to other artists and crafters, and they all loved my products - though none bought any. When I came back from my last pitstop before packing up, there was a nicely dressed gentleman in our cabin, talking to the other couple. Then he looked at my cups, said it might be just what he was looking for, took my card, shook my hand, and left. I said to my friends, "Who was that man?" - Oh, just the town mayor!

My allergies have been kicking my butt since Saturday afternoon, probably all the dust I've been wading through in the workshop. I'm NPO for labs in a little while (they open at 0600) and after breakfast I want to go shop for a shop vac.

I have been playing with my moto saw, what an awesome little tool! I have the sides cut out for a set of chairs , and a cradle and a couple of other projects to cut out next. I'm getting sawdust all over the place. :)

Don't you just love the way it cuts? I emailed Dremel last year after I got mine about the mitre guide. Still not available, but that will make it even better. May have to make one myself.

Holly, I have a regular shop vac for big jobs but I found the cutest little shop vac for the small jobs around the work benches and around the trains, etc. It has been a great little tool and has the same kind of attachments that the big ones have. It looks exactly like a regular one but is only about 1 foot tall. It has great suction, which is the main point for me - not pitiful suction like the dust buster kind. I got it at Walmart.

My youngest son's thyroid cancer came back. His surgeon referred him to a specialist in thyroid cancer surgery in Boston who's reassured us that this is not unusual in younger patients and our son will be alright. DS will be undergoing surgery in May.

His cancer was found very early both times because of some common cysts, so I guess if he had to get cancer he was lucky in a way. It could have gone on a long time before he showed any symptoms of a problem. I feel he's dealing with all this better than I am.

The day before we got the biopsy report my older son called to say his wife told him she wants a divorce. I hope they work this out. They seemed very affectionate when we saw them in September.

Okay, dummy here, confession time. A while back I was fussing about the GL Country House on the Company Store. We all discussed whether it was available and who had built it, etc.

So, after my decision not to enter the HBS contest, I was rummaging through all my stash of kits to see if I could inspire myself to create a contest with my girls on our own.

Well, ..... um, er, ah, sigh, cough, clear throat, sigh again, guess what I found in my own stash - yes, the GL Country House.

And to make it even more ridiculous, here is the entry on my Profile list - get ready - Added 11/2011 - 2 Vintage GL Country House with furniture kits. I can't believe I didn't remember buying them - 2 of them for heaven's sake. What an idiot !!!

Egads Selkie - I think it's time to clean out this stash and be realistic about what I will ever have time to build since I'm not exactly young any more. This is outrageous.

Oh Grazhina, what a lot of worry you have weighing on your shoulders. If you don't mind my asking, what type of thyroid cancer does your son have? You said this was a recurrence so they must not have done a thyroidectomy or just did a partial the first time. Will it be a near-total thyroidectomy this time? I'm a survivor of papillary cancer so I know what a shock it is to hear the word "cancer" and even tho they tell you "if you have to have cancer, this is the best kind because it's slow moving and easily contained", it's not much comfort. There's no such thing as a "minor cancer" when it's in the body of someone you love. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family right now. If there's any support I can provide or information about adjusting to post-thyroidectomy life, just say the word. I'm sure you've been to thyca.org where there's a ton of information and sooooooo much support. If your son is on facebook, he might find this support group to be of interest too.

When I first found out about the cancer it was after my whole thyroid had been removed but I was still a little freaked out. One of the things that I discovered was this video that really gave me a lot of encouragement. This young man has an amazing outlook and his video is something your son might relate to so I'll share it with you because every little thing is gonna be alright.

Hugs,

Deb

Oh, Grazhe, it sucks when our children are so sick! I have said a prayer for your sons; we still don't know what's up with our DS#1 and his wife, but things don't seem nearly as rosy as he keeps telling us they are.

After I got blood drawn and we ate breakfast we stopped at Wally World to look at their shop vacs and bought a can of wasp spray. Then we stopped at Lowe's and I have fallen in love with a wee 2.5 gallon, 5hp model similar to the one that lived in our camper (and has mysteriously disappeared...), but MUCH better quality (the one we used to have was an all-plastic model from Wally World that was adequate for the camper but not for an actual workshop); we also looked at ladders for accessing the loft in the shop and decided our extension ladder will do the job.

Well,I had a whole explanatory post all written out and somehow I touched a key and everything went bye-bye.

In short, Holly, I hope things work out ok for your son and his wife.

Deb, my son was diagnosed with papillary cancer 3 years ago and had his entire thyroid plus some lymph nodes removed. He has a long scar that runs down and around half his neck. It seems that they may have missed a few tiny bits in the lymph area during the first surgery.

He's doing well, kind of like been there - done that - drat it all.

He's much younger than his brother and sister. It's so hard to see him go through all this.

He did say to me though, look on the bright side mom, you managed to lose 5 pounds in one week, so that's a good thing.

Grazhina, when it rains it pours. My mother had thryroid cancer, and I was told the same thing Deb was told, that if you have to have cancer, this is the one to have because it is so self-contained. No parent wants to see his or her child face surgery no matter how great the outcome is, but I am sure your son's attitude combined with your support will get him through this just fine.

I am also sorry about your other son and his wife, but I am sure better days are ahead for them as well. I hope they stay together if it is meant to be. If not, I will pray they will both find their way.

Please know your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Well my allergies keep kicking my butt, I haven't been this sick with them since I was working and they used to turn into full-fledged sinus infections. So far just plain old histaminic reaction.

Holly, it also helps if you aim! I've had a concealed carry permit for about 20 years now, but haven't been able to get out to any range to practice in a while. I did have to take another class when I switched my permit to TN, however, and pass their test. But they don't call me Annie Oakley for nothing (I wonder how many of the young folks here know who that is!).

Probably safe enough to say here, but I had this wonderful target sheet that I named for my ex-son in law; however, when I moved up here with my granddaughter (this is her father, remember), I thought that discretion called for ditching it. Darn, I really enjoyed using that target!!!
