GirlPiper
That's why I made the comment about the ears on a separate line, Sandy. I have no intentions of needing a walker; but if that day comes I've already spotted the one I want at a local thrift store!lolGloria, your colonoscopy adventure reminded me of the "routine" physical I went in for that resulted in my getting a pacemaker. I'll bet your post-op orders also include no hiking, biking or kayaking for six weeks, like mine did. How nice they caught it when they did! Take it easy, you'll feel great but tire rapidly; I think it has to do with having been cut open and stitched shut again. I'll keep you in my prayers and expect progress reports. Yeah--I can walk, but am not allowed to lift more than 5 lbs this week, and playing my bagpipes is not an option! Thanks for the kind thoughts.
GirlPiper
Get well soon Gloria! Abdominal surgery of any kind sounds rough. All I had done was a gallbladder removal, and it was awful for the first couple of days, so I could only imagine what you went through was far worse. I might take the kids to our medieval fair tomorrow, so I'm unpacking one of my kilts in the morning. It was just a laprascope--4 holes and a small incision. Really lovely bruise color range today..Have good 'ye olde tyme.'
~morningstar~
Yeah--I can walk, but am not allowed to lift more than 5 lbs this week, and playing my bagpipes is not an option! Thanks for the kind thoughts. yeah, those pipes can get pretty heavy. When we had our initiation ceremony, (traditionally this takes a couple of hours) we had pipers and by the end, the two that were piping for us, though they did an outstanding job, you could see it took a lot out of them. I don't know how you do it. And I love me the sound of some bagpipes! Even though, I have a Native American father, my mother is Scottish & Irish. ... so I have a love for the sound of the pipes too. You just take care of you, sweetheart. You'll be back to playin' them in no time! Maybe I'll get to hear you play sometime. ~morningstar~
heidiiiii
Today I realized that my CPAP is finally working. I have energy and most importantly cognitive is back. WOO-HOO! That means I will be back into my dh building and minis. But first I am cleaning house. I put a real dent in the place today. Stopping for now cause I do not want to over do it. Have not decided on dinner yet but Fred has the weekend off so you know it will be at home cooking. I decided to jump right in like I have not been gone. This is not a mirage..I am going to make a conscious effort to contribute every day here. I want to start building again. I have money for builds now (not like before) and I have my COGNITIVE back! This is huge. Happy Weekend all.
sparklepuppies
Heidi!!! Welcome back! So glad you are doing better! Roxy and Gloria, y'all both take care and heal and get better. Jeremy, good luck on your interview, you will do great. I am so blah, no motivation here. I'm still not 100% since the bronchitis. But I have do much to do. We will have waterproofing stuff done to our basement next week, which will destroy 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. So I need to go pack up Anslee's room, not looking forward to that.
kat57
Heidi,In the time since I found the Greenleaf Forum-getting close to a year ago now-I have so much enjoyed reading your entries in old posts I've run across! So glad to meet you and glad you are feeling well enough to start back on minis and dollhouses! Kat To everyone who's been sick or down in some way,I hope you all feel better very soon! It is absolutely beautiful on my side of the fence today, after being soooo dang cold yesterday, but I'm fighting a killer sinus headache and will just go lie down on the couch for awhile until I can concentrate on my dh.
Mandystar
Well, the dye is cast. I bit the bullet and opened the Gloucester. I'm about half done marking all the pieces and, sadly, I see this certainly isn't a laser cut kit! I've been picking out splinters for the past couple of hours! Almost done with the marking, then on to measuring out the front wall to see if the door and windows I want to use (not the ones that come with the kit) will fit. Then I'll do a dry fit of the main floor to determine where I'm going to put my spiral staircase (again, not using the supplied ones). Only then will I put it away (for a bit) and build the staircases. This isn't a very large house (as compared to the Garfield, nothing is large!), so I'm going to use Gina's idea of building a table for the base ( http://moreminis.blogspot.com/ ), but I'll have to make it larger anyway, because I'm adding a conservatory addition to the side, and I want room in the back where I plan to put a mural that can be seen through the back windows (that I'm bashing in), and in the front where there's gonna be a basement/courtyard. Okay, so it's gonna be another monster! I'll have to get to Home Depot this coming week to pick up the bits and pieces I'll need for the base of this baby.
havanaholly
Hurrah! Heidi, I'm SO very glad you've come home! I have missed you! Sandy, lay your component windows and doors atop the walls you want to install them on and trace around them. Don't punch out the ones on the kit until you see if you need to, because if the ones you want to use wind up slightly smaller it's easier to fill/ seal around the die stamp part and cut the new size with a steel straight edge and a utility knife; and if it's larger you can whack out the space you need the same way.
Mandystar
Thanks, Holly. I haven't purchased the new windows yet -- I wanted to be sure they'd work first. This is a very full panel -- it's the front-opening Gloucester and, in addition to the 8 windows and a door that are there originally, I plan to raise the front door to the second story AND I am pretty sure that the windows I want are larger than the die cut opening that now exist. I'm not punching out anything at this point, simply because those markings will be a good measuring tool for alignment purposes. Once I get the layout working, I can order the windows -- but still can't cut out the openings until the new ones arrive because they all have irregular openings. They do come with a fully assembled inside trim (yeah, I know, I'm cheating!) that can be used as a template. This is really all the fun part!!! I have so much of the furniture that I plan to use, so I can lay it out when I have the dry fit set up, and I also ordered wallpaper and matching fabric!!!! So... this is going to be lots of fun! I bought a HOM sofa a chair (I mentioned that somewhere earlier) so that I can learn to reupholster these and, of course, I'll use some of the new fabric for them (using the supplied patterns) next! My brain is spinning again -- this is one of the very best parts of building dollhouses! Heidi, I don't think we've met, but a big welcome back to you from me!!!
havanaholly
Sandy, hang onto the edges of the plywood sheets to shim your component windows and doors, since they're made for thicker wood that 1/8".
morgansmith
Heidi, sooooo glad to see you back. I've been wondering about you lately. Such good news. Jeremy, GOOD LUCK! And, go to the Medieval Faire! What fun. Morningstar, pools...let's don't go there right now Yea, Sandy! Another monster. Don't forget, Spring Fling isn't toooooooo far away (of course, hoping they have one) Roxy, Gloria, Kat...all of you with medical stuff...TAKE CARE! I myself plan a nap today. I refuse to acknowledge the cold I am fighting
Mandystar
Absolutely! Thanks, Holly. I do have a supply of 1/8" balsa & birch plywood, but the edge bits and pieces are like found money! A shame to waste this if there's a potential use for them.

Mandystar
Roxy, are you feeling better yet? Are you consuming lots of chicken soup? I can't believe that I, with my heritage, omitted that ingredient! Hoping that everyone who's been under the weather is (at least) starting to feel better. We, here, are having a heat wave. The temperature is now all the way up to 39° F!!!
Mandystar
Oh, and I might add (for Morgan's sake), that I just -- might -- open the Diana and play around with my ideas for it -- while I'm waiting for the doors and windows for the Gloucester anyway. You know, you just don't know whatchur gonna do with it until it starts talking back! I was looking at the Diana's front wall when I took the Gloucester out of the closet. It's so tiny!!! I need longer, thinner fingers! I finally ordered one of those "helping hands" with an attached light (the one with the magnifier and the little alligator clips to hold things while you work on them), so that will help! Mandystar
Has anyone played with the idea of converting the Diana to a front-opening house? I'm going see if I can figure it out, but if someone has already tried... just let me know. Please! I just do not have room for any more dollhouses. Is that gonna stop me. Heck, no. BUT. I'm trying to be somewhat sensible here. If I don't have to turn it around, I can even hang it on a wall. Remember those library steps/ladders that you see in upscale home libraries (and in movies showing the same type of venue)? So... you can imagine how my house is gonna look pretty soon! Forget the books. Just dollhouses!

heidiiiii
I actually started this thread six years ago. I had been down and out. Being sick and not being able to build the way I wanted because of money and my brain. I am never going to be *well* but after 3 months on the machine, I have clarity. The muse is coming out of hibernation. Many of you dont have a clue who I am but that is okay. We will all get to know each other. My health as good as it can be with Type 2 Diabetes for 14 yrs. I have issues but I am ok.
heidiiiii
I am still on Facebook but I think I had to step away from here because I just could not create and watching others do so made me sad. I could not think beyond what was necessary in life. My sleep apnea was/is really bad. Without the machine, I stop breathing 48 times a minute. No wonder I was cranky. I have ideas now. That is most important.

pdlnpeabody
Welcome back Heidi! I'm a little bit envious- I wish I could use a CPAP. I had to return mine. My insurance wouldn't pay for it if I didn't use it for at least 6 hours a night. I couldn't use it for more than 2 hours before getting sick from it. I was using sleeping pills to get my Z's, but my blood pressure pills lower it so much, I sleep well without them. I didn't make it to the fair today, and won't make it tomorrow (wife will be at work all day) so this weekend is out. She works next Saturday too, but I hope to make it out next Sunday.
me-barbie
Jeremy when things get stable, you might want to look into a bipap. CPAP cousin. Sleep apnea is nothing to fool around with!

The insurance pays the monthly *rental* and I think after a year, it is ours. But you are monitored both for the Dr and the insurance. Ours is a solid four hours sleep. BUT you can take naps with it and it counts towards your hours. It took awhile but I am used to it now. I have a full face mask. Fred has just the nose one.
