 The plumber came late Thursday afternoon with a new assistant and sounding very congested, but swearing he felt better, and they ripped out all the old lacy, leaky copper ppipes and put in pretty new PVC pipes. We shall have to go back to the hardware store to buy another faucet set for the new lavatory because he installed the one we'd originally bought on the one in the upstairs bath when he replaced the old faucet set along with the pipes. While he was up there I mentioned that eventually I'd like to take out the old bathtub and have a walk-in shower and storage closet (AFTER the kitchen!)and he said that would be really easy!

DH really liked the ginger shortbread cookies I made in the clay Santa mold; we ALL did. In addition to ginger, cinnamon & cloves the recipe calls for a dash of cayenne pepper, and it's PERFECT!!!

I have got to clean house today. I've put it off as long as I can, the kids are supposed to come tomorrow! We're going to MIL's house for lunch, but otherwise will be cleaning. I'm probably about through with minis until they leave!

Yesterday we did the Christmas eve rounds of the octo- and nono-genarian aunts and uncles and their immediate families. Today dinner with cousin Gloria and her family. It is raining here in the Big Easy. Better than snow! Hope no one has travel plans messed up by the storm that's heading toward DC.

Holly, ever made buckwheat pancakes? We made some this morning out of flour from the new organic grocery in town. Add Honey, Mexican vanilla, and cinnamon and they are so rich! I think it's too strong a taste for the kids to like, but we sure enjoyed them!

yesterday went to daughter Debbies at 3 for spaghetti made with ground venison. wow excellent. garlic bread, green beans with bacon, fruit salad and desserts. opened a couple gifts there then to church service at 6. / no tv service for me I gave up my satellite a year ago with cost so much to 'maybe' watch an hour or so and maybe not turn on for a week. both girls gave me movie dvd's and tapes. One of them tapes for me all the time. works for us.

daughter Jeannie turns on church lights and checks heater temps so they left a bit early. service was wonderful with candle lighting.

on to Jeannies where I had taken gifts when I had help one day (with broken arm had to have help). unfinished quilts and set of unfinished pillow cases brought back to do when my broken arm heals. They were happy to know what they would have gotten :-)

today will be traditional turkey (or did she say ham?) dinner with trimmings at Jeannies. truck driver son in law is home and that's always a plus. He and grandson put a different propane heater in here for me yesterday and it's wonderful. big gift from them was propane. haha different but they do this now and then. I've been using electric ones but they don't truly warm the air.

Today I start tidying doll house table and see what I can do to help progress. I've ordered channel wood for shower wall to slide in to. The way I see it is wood cut to size is secured then half wall or whatever I dream up slides into the channel. Ohhh I got a dremel drill from Debbie too. This one is cordless to replace the corded one I burnt up drilling plexi glass so I have all those attachments put away.

Found a magnet at Dollar Tree that is a thin television. cute cute. Will paste logo for special program on it.

Always so good to visit with my 2 really nice adult daughters. Last night a new step great grandaughter was born. Little family doing great. The dad has been my grandson for 20 of his 23 years.

Everyone have a blessed day :-)

Felt well enough to work on the Tudor's turret interior paneling last night. Then I made the mistake of using the CPAP last night. Turns out I don't have a stomach bug, but the machine is filling my gut up with so much air that I'm up most of the night gagging. I'm still nauseated. I'm returning the thing on Monday and picking up a bottle of sleeping pills. The only reason I agreed to try the stupid thing was so I could get a decent night's sleep. OK. . .rant's over.

The windows are starting to look good.

The turkey is in the oven and the last of the pies are baking now. DH and DD2 were pleased with their gifts and I loved mine. DD2 has already called and we all got on the line for a long talk. She started a new job a month ago after nearly a year without and now if DD2 could only find one. There appears to be a cyber security training program available through our local community collage and with what the math and science courses she already has completed with her degree and her computer skills she should qualify at the halfway mark. Hope it works out for her. We will keep positive thoughts for all that some better times are ahead for all.

Although the house is warm and the two fur kids are being really cuddly trying to get us to play with them and their new toys, it still seems a bit empty. I really miss my Baron. We picked up his ashes from the vet earlier this week. I am so grateful for the gift of all their love and devotion. It seems like I really give them so little and they give back so much. I am beginning to think about another to round out the pack. Guess I will be keeping my eyes open for another perfect pup to adopt.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a much brighter New Year.

Sherry, the last time I made buckwheat pancakes was finishing off the bag of buckwheat pancake mix I got at our favorite health food store in VA (W of Strasburg); our local leaf & twig store didn't have buckwheat anything last two times I was there, because I asked. I put tupelo honey on my pancakes/ waffles/ biscuits.

We had sausage biscuits for breakfast this AM, since DS was here to eat them with us.

I started to reassemble Mildred, and I'm already getting the "I don't like that; give me this", and I was just starting the foundation!

Fraid I just made a fool of myself with the fudge my neighbor gave me this morning - thank heavens she didn't give me very much, because it's all gone now! But I did have a pretty healthy dinner BEFORE the fudge, baked whitefish with lemon juice, green beans and new potatoes, and a little Christmas orange/satsuma for dessert. Trying to get back on the cardio diet after deviating with goodies from friends, potluck dinners, etc. - oh, these holidays! And I enjoyed every single bite, you betcha. That's the problem LOL!

So sorry for all you folks in the South who are having nasty, cold, snowy weather, and hope you're all staying safe, warm, and at home. Really feel terrible for anyone trying to travel on the East coast - or in Europe - for the holidays. Ghastly weather all around, and here, too, but we're used to it and prepared for it, so not that big of a problem here. Though it did warm up to just above freezing the last two days and my cat and I are both ready to jump out of our skins with all the snow semi-melting and sliding off the roofs in huge half-frozen chunks with LOUD crashes. Poor Koko thinks the sky's falling and is terrified to go out the door, and in a way he's right. Well, I think the roof is more or less clear now for the moment, and ready for the next foot or so of snow, which is coming next week....

MERRY CHRISTMAS, ALL!!!!

It rained yesterday just as DH & DS were leaving to take DS home, and by the time it stopped & DH was home again, the rain had stopped and the cold front had arrived; so no snow here (Thank You, God!) but blankety-blank-blank COLD! I may finagle a trip to Wally World or the grocery store to restock and get out of the house, since we stay put when the plumber's here (answer questions, receive info, etc).

I was wondering when I would finally loose this crazy energy binge I have had for the past two weeks and it appears to have ended as of day before yesterday. I had been starting to drag around with a cold and stuffy head about three days ago and after doing the dinner yesterday I took some Niquil and hit the hay. I slept until about 11 this morning and I still am a bit groggy but I did sleep and I can breath today.I am just going to vegitate for the rest of the weekend.

Holly, Did the plumber get your bathroom finished finally?

I am so glad ours is done. Even though the contractors did clean up pretty well after themselves, the downstairs entry tile floor is still a mess from the mud, snow and salt stains and I have not gotten around to mopping it up yet. They used it as a staging area for the sinks and other stuff while they finished the reworking of the plumbing and electric. I do not know who was the individual who decided the layout of this house but the electrical setup in the bathrooms was really weird. Even though the GFI wall plugs were installed there were no continuous on wall plugs, you had to turn on the wall switch to make them live. Couldn't put an electrical clock, charging for razors or toothbrush etc in. We straightened out the master bath when we remodeled that a couple of years ago, and I was also glad to finally get the upstairs bath done as well. The other thing that really bugged me was the commode was the first thing you saw and came to right as you entered the room. I realize that sometimes the size and location of the wet wall determines the layout of a bathroom, but the designer in me cringed every time I opened that door. Since they had to tear up the floor boards to redo the pipes and drains for the pedestal sinks and we discovered the floor joists ran the "right" way a simple "I wonder how much extra trouble would it be to relocate the john over there (gesture) and the sinks here?" made it happen. DH just shook his head and wandered away muttering to himself. It does make quite a difference in the feel of the bathroom since there is more room by the door and you do not have to do a detour around the john to get to the sinks.

...Holly, Did the plumber get your bathroom finished finally?,,,
No, and I'm majorly green with envy here!

Originally he was supposed to be finished in two weeks, 17 December. Between the plumbing repairs ensuing from the freezing weather we've had starting near 12/10, and the OTHER reno job he didn't bother to mention until the lady was on her way home from the hospital, he has the new whirlpool tub seated on its bed of concrete and the room is gutted (with ice cold wind blasting out through the pantry's slatted doors, since it's back WAS the BR wall, which is gone), albeit decorated with pretty new water pipes and studs. He still has to build the tub's splash wall, hang the sheetrock (and paint it), lay a new flloor and install the new lavatory and commode stool, and clean it all up.

I shudder to think how long renovating the kitchen will take! :)

I had to take my truck to the garage first thing this morning for some needed repairs that I have been putting off !! I am lost without my vehicle, especially if we get an emergency call & I have to just sit here. (I am a volunteer) I'll spend the day puttering around here & maybe I'll get some odds & ends done.

I really want to go out & start pruning the pear trees before it warms up and they begin budding, but it ain't happening today! I don't think it ever got to 40F yesterday before the cold front hit us! Maybe I can wheedle DH to cut my three pieces to finish building Mildred's altered foundation, and I can begin the bash & dry build of the reassembly.

Got the last of the family Christmas done yesterday, now in recovery mode. Have dinner guests coming over tomorrow night, so gotta start preparing for that too. I will probably start taking down some decorations, though I doubt I'll get it all done. And Brennen got a new bedroom set from Santa, so I need to start wokring on cleaning out his room and moving the new stuff in. And Lawson got a new desk, which has to be put together in his room, so his room needs to be cleaned and reorganized. Did I mention we're having guests tomorrow? Should be fun getting things presentable. :)

At least there are no WAVE performances for Lawson this week, that kept us booked everyday last week. I had all last week off, and all this week too. Sadly I haven't got any mini time in yet. I'm really really hoping to get in at least one day in, preferably 2 or 3. I don't think I've done anything on my poor Beacon Hill in about a month now. And I'm ready to get going on it again. With 18 straight days of no work, you'd think I could do something!

Holly, I'm so sorry and sad about your bathroom. I sure hope he gets it done this week!

Thank you, Tracy; me, too.

The workshop downstairs is far too cold to do any cutting this AM, I'm hoping it'll warm up enough for DH to try this afternoon. Meanwhile I may go ahead with some dry fit so I can start the first floor flooring. I'm going to use the black "marbled" linoleum for the kitchen like I used in the McKinley, and cork for the diningroom. I'm sort of tempted to try the concentric square design fo floorboards like we had in our 1906 house in OH for the parlor/ livingroom.

Had a great Christmas weekend!

Got to Mummy Christmas Eve and she'd made us yummy supper - including a very nice savory cheese cake/flan thing. So nice to have mummy cooked food! Then had an early night (had been a very long busy day at the pharmacy!) Got up when we woke up around 8:30, got dressed and opened stockings/presents having had a snack of Stollen. Then Mummy made us bacon, sausage links, eggs and toast for late breakfast. I drove us (Mummy, Chris and me) to Chris' parents house about 45 mins away, where we opened more presents, socialised with his parents, brother and grandmothers. Then had a fantastic Christmas dinner which lasted a few hours of the afternoon! Watched the new Doctor Who and drove back home to Mummys. Played a disney trivia game before bed, and woke up to smells of bacon, eggs and pancakes again! Delicious!

Back to Chris' parents for the day, including another feast in the afternoon, before some wii games and the drive home. I have today and tomorrow off too (bank holidays) but we've got a new years party on Friday, so driving home was already planning what tidying/cleaning needed doing these two days to get it all ready and find enough room for everyone to sleep. Carried our bags of overnight stuff and presents in to a spotless flat! Chris had spent Christmas Eve tidying and cleaning while I was at work. What an amazing surprise! Just about the best christmas present ever as not only do I not have to do the cleaning, I didn't have to think about having to clean and what would need doing etc, I could just switch off and relax! Fabulous!

Then we decided that maybe we should get a couple bits of furniture - need a tv stand and another shelf as minimum. Decided two shelves would be better, along with a tv stand and a little chest of drawers (room for a dollhouse on top!) so off to Ikea we went. Have built one set of shelves, the tv stand and the little chest of drawers. Now just gotta sort out my books, move a dollhouse or two, dismantle a computer table, move two other chests of drawers, build the final shelf unit and we might just about be there! So more tidying or rather rearranging is being done, but in a clean and already tidy flat, so I'm happy!

Great Christmas!

Happy Birthday Holly! Hope you have a lovely day with a treat or two :)

...and hope that plumber gets lots done today too!

Didn't make the stollen this Christmas, but have in previous years. Will hopefully get around to it again next year along with a yummy fruit cake.
