I've been married for 13 years and have a 9 year old daughter.

I'm a southern country girl through and through, but I married a man from just outside Boston. I hate cold and I'm not fond of the city except for the shopping opportunities. Luckily, he likes it better down here too, although he would prefer a more suburban setting than the 4 acres we live on.

I love animals and have 3 Dachshunds, 1 bearded dragon, 1 turtle, 6 hermit crabs, 3 fire belly toads and 1 fish. We would have cats and probably birds too, but DH is highly allergic to both. I had to find a new home for my cockatiel when we got married. And we can't afford horses or I'd have those too. I had a Quarter Horse growing up.

I showed dogs for 15 years, but recently decided I'd had enough of the politics and I've always been nervous in front of a crowd. I still enjoy going to shows as a spectator though. I just had my last showable dog spayed, so I'll have to get a new dog if I change my mind.

I love to garden and collect plants.

I also love to read and I can never give up my books after I've read them. My book shelves are overflowing. I can't stand it when people use books as coasters. It's just one of my little pet peeves.

I love to make things myself - all kinds of things.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Go Heels!

I worked when my daughter was small (testing computer programs), but I quit when she started school. Backwards maybe, but that's how it worked out for us. I couldn't afford to not work until then.

I'm rather shy and I usually feel like whatever I just said was probably stupid or misinterpreted.

Hello everyone!

I have enjoyed reading this and getting to know you.

About me,

I have been building dollhouses for 10 months now :loveletter:

It really is an addictive hobby

I have 3 kids (14 yrs, 3 yrs & 2 yrs.)

I have a dog, Jake. He's half lab, half Rodesian Ridgeback, so he looks scared all the time.

I like to collect arcade games. The big ones! My favorite is Ms. Pacman.

My favorite color is any variation of purple or red.

I grew up watching This Old House on PBS and love to work on my big house as well as the small ones.

Having fun,

Sarah

I love to read, i go through a new book almost once a week.

My favorite color is pink

I collect shot glasses and anything zebra print

I HATE needles, spiders, and the king from the burger king commericals (he seriously freaks me out!)

My dream job would be to become an interior designer

I played soccer for 17 years and traveled all over with my club team.

I love to sing, i was in my middle choir all three years and Ensemble in high school

I moved out of the house when I was 17, decided college wasnt for me and started working full time.

I am now currently going part time to college

I work ALOT, i am the HR and AP for our branch here in san diego

My family is very important to me. my parents divorced when i was 6 months old so i have always had to sets of families. my dad is a Master Chief in the Navy and is in several text books, he was my living history project in high school :) So i grew up in a very millitary imvorment but sadly my dad missed out alot of my life while i was growing up.

I love chick flicks, i could watch pretty woman, runaway bride, sweet home alabama a billion times in a row..

And i just love to build dollhouses, i someday hope to have a big enough house where i can host several of my dream dollhouses, the willowcrest, emerson row, beacon hill, the pierce, the garfield, all on one street, and dedicate a whole room to that!

hmm anything else? of course there is loads but this is good for now :)

Nifty thread! I think I'll babble a bit to add to it!

Ok, my name is Jen and I'm 27, I'll be 28 next month. I live in Bangor, Maine with my fiance Eric and our four kitties, Communist, Cocoa, Creature, and Cuddles. I work far too many jobs (4 right now!) My full time job is as an adult case manager working with Native Americans who have mental illness. My three part-time jobs are working at the Crisis Stablization Unit (hmm can you guess what I went to school for? LOL), doing security and bartending for events at the Bangor Auditorium, and doing the accounting and HR stuff for Eric's security business. I'm also finishing up my first master's in special ed, and then I'll be going for a master's and a doctorate in counseling...hoping to have my own practice someday, and to be a college professor on the side. My favorite color is orange and my lucky number is 47. I love to read anything I can get my hands on, but mostly sci-fi and fantasy. I have been cross-stitching since I was 8 (my mom taught me) and I have tons of projects in various stages of completion. I am pretty new to minis but both my kits (BH and White Orchid) arrived today and I can't wait until Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love napping, hot chocolate, movies, and MONKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to have a pet monkey but Eric says no way, not that I am surprised. I also love to shop and my sister and I regularly make dates to "shop shop shop 'til we drop drop drop" Eric and I have been together for 8 years and we are getting married on September 22!!!!!

Anything else y'all want to know about me? Just ask!

*Bearhugs*

heya,

well im Abbie (as you can probably guess by the screen name)

I live in West Yorkshire in a little (rathe hippy filled) town which is in the north west of England. I live with my mum, step father and occasionally my big bro when hes back from uni.

We've lived here for the last 2 years and before that we lived in Lancashire in a town half an hr away for ten years, and before that we lived in South east London where my dad, stepmum, little bro and sis still live.

I'm at my local 6th form studying IT, English literature, Media and philosophy & ethics.

I think ive been into dollshouses for the last 2 and a half years, i got my first one for my 14th birthday and have since aquired 2 more (though one is in pieces under my bed :s)

As well as dollshouses i make cards and other general crafty things, I also compete in something called Crown Court mock trial competition which as can be guessed from the name is a mock trial compettion where we all play a part, i am a prosecution witness, and we have to fight out a court case against other schools. We won the regional heat a few months ago and are now through to the regionals

anyway i think i have gone on long enough...

Wow...how have I missed this thread for so long? :D

Ok..a little bit about me. Let's see:

I am the youngest of 4 girls. Yeah, 'the baby'. Forty-six years old and the eldest sister still calls me that. geesh. LOL!

I am married to a wonderful man who is <hang on to your hats> 16 years my junior. We have no children together but Michial <pronounced Michael> has been a fantastic father for the last 10 years to my son, who has recently turned 18. This is my third and LAST marriage. Heaven forbid I have to train another man. I will just get another cat if need be.

I have two cats, Newman and Lainey. They are the comic relief in my life. I also have an inside rabbit, Lil' Bit. He lives in a cage in my <supposed to be> diningroom. I like him...he makes very little noise.

My favorite color is purple, the color of royalty, don'tcha know.

Favorite flower is yellow rose.

I enjoy reading although I haven't had much time lately to do it. Stephen King is my favorite author.

I don't have any collections, other than dust bunnies under the bed and minis.

My most dreaded cleaning chore is the bathroom. Living with two men ain't easy.

I work full time at a retail farm supply store as the clothing specialist. Sounds odd, clothing in a farm store, but hey, farmers gotta dress too! Where else can you buy a radiator for your tractor and some new bib overalls at the same store? I really enjoy my job most of the time. I have my stressed moments though. Hmm...odd. If you spell stressed backwards it is desserts...that has got to mean something.

That is really about it. Nothing too exciting. It was cool getting to know everyone that has posted. Nice to meet you all!

I know this topic was started over a year ago, and no one has posted on it in quite some time, but I thought I would go against the grain and share a little bit of myself with allyall.

I am 25 years old and have been married for almost a year (May 18th). DH surprised me with a Beacon Hill for my birthday back in February and have been working on that ever since. I have 2 puppies, who some of you already know that I love and adore (you can see plenty of pics of them in my gallery). During the building of my dollhouse, I have discovered a newfound passion for flower and floral prints. As I have picked out wallpaper, so far I have 50 or so designs, almost all of which are flowers!! So I am excited about that. My favorite place in the whole world to be is the beach. My 2nd favorite place is my papasan chair right in front of my fireplace :drool2:

I don't really like reading. Or let me rephrase: I only read books that actually interest me (high school was a struggle---they made me read boring books!!). Anyway. I am in the middle of 3 books right now: Roots by Alex Haley, The Innocent Man by John Grisham (his first non-fiction book), and The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule. She is my favorite true-crime author. I have read all her books. The one I mentioned is about her friendship with Ted Bundy, and how she, and everyone else who knew him, had no idea he was the serial killer "Ted" the police were looking for. It has been nothing short of a fascinating read.

My favorite color is purple. Some have called it my obsession. After all, I have purple bed sheets, purple comforter, purple curtains, purple pillows....and that's just the bedroom. Others have noticed a definite purple theme in my house.

I am not working, which I love. I stopped working in June, just after I got married. It is a very nice change of pace since I have been working 40 hours a week ever since graduating from high school. That means more time for my dollhouse!!! Even though I just started working on my Beacon Hill, and have sooo much more to do on it, I have been contemplating what my next house should be. I have been looking, but haven't found "the one". But today while looking through the gallery, I saw the most beautifully decorated house I'd ever seen. It was a Foxhill Manor. I knew it was "the one" the moment I saw it. DH thinks it's kind of early to look, but I think it's never too early to look..................

I am not really a creative, crafty person. I see so many people making such beautiful dh accesories for the dhs, and I have not the patience nor the skill nor the desire to make stuff like that. I realize that is probably quite close-minded of me. But since I am still on the building phase of my first dh and havent' even started contemplating the decoration, who knows what miracles will happen.

So that is about it. That is about all I can tell you without yall falling asleep. It was nice reading some of the other posts!!

Hi, I'm Suzanne from Hamilton, ont. Canada. I've just turned 41. I have been married to my 2nd DH for 16 yrs. We have a 13 yr old girl, and 10 yr old son. I was widowed my first time round, and have 3 children from that family. 2 girls and 1 boy, all grown-up. My oldest daughter has 2 boys, both cute as buttons.(Yikes I'm a Gramma) I've wanted a dollhouse all my life. My Dearly departed Daddy had said if he ever got rich, he'd buy me one. Poor guy never got rich, and I never got that dh, as a child. It wasn't 'till 3 yrs ago that I got my first. My DH remembered a question he'd asked me when we were dating, I answered. He'd asked if I thought I'd missed something in my life? Or if there was anything I had ever wanted and never got. Of course he got the full version of Dad's promise, and that Darling, remembered my answer, 13 years later! When he seen the basic Lemon Twist at a yard sale, he bought it for $50.00. Thinking the price was outrageous. ( We both know better now) LOL After I had the house, my Dad remembered about me bugging him for one, and he paid him back. Dad hadn't realized just how bad that desire was, as I didn't nag him enough.! This house enforced my love of everything mini. I have 7 houses now, enough furniture to fill 2 more, and I've exhausted all my non dollhouse friends with my mini talk. Until my daughter found this website I was starting to think I was just reliving my childhood and perhaps had a serious problem. I'm so glad I found you guys!!!!

This is such a great thread. Everyone has been so open and honest and it is nice to read about you all.

A little about me:

My father was an Army Officer and my husband is a Naval Officer so the military is all I have ever known. I have never lived anywhere longer than 4 years and that was only once. I usually move every 2 to 3 years. I have lived in 12 states and 1 foreign country. We have at least 3 or 4 more moves before we are done

Before I had my daughter I was a Computer Analyst working for a Fortune 100 company. I absolutely loved what I did but I was a workaholic and often worked 6 days a week 10 hour days. I miss that part of my life but I know that I can not go back to it because I will get back into the same work habits. I don't think that is fair to my daughter or my husband.

I collect US Navy World War 2 lockets that have either the Officers Crest or Pilot wings on them. They are a bit rare so I am only able to find one every 6 months or so but boy am I happy when I do! I have 7 so far.

I also collect sand from all the beaches that I have been to. All of the sand, except Hawaii, was collected in the fall or winter because I am not a beach person and do not like hot weather. lol

My husband still does not know what he wants to do or where he wants to live when he retires from the Navy and that makes me very nervous.

I am a total Type A, anal, thinker, analyzer organizer. I have a pre law degree from LSU (Geaux Tigers!) and would love to go to Law school one day.

I am really a cat person at heart but can not have them since my dog thinks they make tasty little treats.

I have Hashimotos Disease, caused by pregnancy, which I struggle with on a daily basis. My doctors say that I am a weird case in that the medicine doesn't work on me like it should be.

I have one daughter and do not think that I want more children. I struggle with this almost daily and wonder if I am doing the right thing. There is so much pressure from society, from my parents, and In Laws to have another child that it is almost overwhelming. I find myself hyperactively defending the fact that we only have one child whenever someone asks. The truth is that I love my daughter very much, love being a mom, think I am a good mom, but I also know my limits. We have a wonderful peaceful family and are very content with it. Why isn't that enough?

You all are probably thinking "Woah. Way TMI!" lol

I can totally relate, Corey. Although I really wanted another child but felt guilty as if I was being selfish, because we had a lot of problems during my pregnancy and I knew in my head that it would be better not to do that again. But my heart was pulling me another way. I also felt torn between loving having just one for the reasons you described, but also desperately wanting that son to have a sibling to play with. Not to mention hoping for a daughter to whom I could pass on my dollhouses!

I really was conflicted and in emotional agony for years, and finally we decided to try to conceive again and just see what happened. We gave up after about a year and half. At least I know we tried and I feel this was meant to be. You have to do what feels comfortable for you. And if you have health problems - and I must confess I have no idea what Hashimoto's Disease is - then you really have the right to take care of yourself first so that you can then care for your family. The irony is that my family was begging me NOT to have another child.

I am also a Type A and thinker/organizer, except that I am messy around the house. I am an abstract thinker, not very practical. I married a down-to-earth construction worker who keeps me grounded. I have a B.S. and an M.S. but stopped short of a Ph.D. because I was just tired of being poor and wanted a job and a paycheck, thank you very much!

I used to be an intern for NASA.

I am a very silly, playful Mom to my five-year-old son.

I am extremely extraverted and when I am nervous I literally cannot shut up. I just talk and talk to fill the void.

I am embarassed to admit that I write fiction.

My favorite color is blue.

I listen to country music sometimes, but mostly I like classical. I hate pop.

I mostly read British authors. I mainly read mysteries. And Tolkein, of course.

I love gardening.

I want to be Eowyn from "The Lord of the Rings."

Wish me luck - I need it!

I suppose I'll throw in a bit about myself here also. My mother was always the crafty type. We grew up with a garage full of tools, wood, saws, and paint. Now that I'm getting ideas for projects, I wish I had my mother's garage.

I am 28 years old, and I live with my boyfriend and two roommates in a house in San Diego. One of our roommates is my best friend, who I also work with at a health media web site. I am a member services rep, which means I answer emails and questions all day (along with managing member's accounts). My job is not stressful at all, and the coworkers are all laid-back and drama free. I really couldn't ask for a better situation other than a raise. :D

Before this job, I had a very diverse employment history. When I was 19, I worked in TV as a master control operator, audio and camera on the side. Spent a few years testing video games for a large game publisher, also ran online games for TV shows for a while. Then I went to work for FEMA as a Hazards Mitigation Counselor for Hurricane Ivan victims in Orlando and Pensacola.

A few years ago I was going to art school, but quit when I stopped seeing value in the lessons and instructors. I think the moment I learned my color theory teacher was color blind was the moment that I decided I was done. Maybe someday I will go back, however I don't have any drive for it presently.

My family is fairly large with 1 older brother and 3 younger sisters, two of which have children now. I have one nephew (Max) and two nieces (Alexandra and Giavonni, the latest just born on the 29th to my crazy sister who refused any drugs during the 6 hour labor!)

I don't have any pets at the moment. While I want a cat and a dog, I won't be able to have a cat until my boyfriend and I get our own place, as one of our roommates is allergic to cats. However I am getting a dog for my birthday in October, and I can't wait. It will be a shelter dog, so I don't know what breed or sex yet.

As for my personality, I am a pretty laid back person in general, and can get a bit sensitive at times for no really good reason. Dark humor and sarcasm are some of my traits, and I can even offend myself sometimes. Laughter is my favorite thing, and I do a lot of it, and sort of loudly I've been told.

I'm 25. still plays with dolls/toys.

Married to my sweetheart, who used to be my next door neighbor. ( Ex-navy, guitar playing nerd <3 )

We've got a four year old who already shows potential of being a very smart girl. ( We hope to survive her pre-teen and teen years in tact ) She also likes to sing parts of the barbie song by aqua. When she makes a mistake, don't laugh, cause she's serious all the time. :D

Eh... we live with two tamed lovebirds, two semi tame budgies, a 55 gal tank with gouramis, tiger barbs, two corys, a spotted green puffer, some giant danios, a huge bottom feeder and my betta named Sushi. We've got four cats also. Most of the pets are rescues or strays that just ended up staying with us.

I like ball jointed dolls, miniatures, doll houses ( I had a huge plastic one in the mid 90's growing up ) nature and cartoons.

I used to work in a petshop, it broke my heart.

I now work as a waitress and I love it! ( most of the time )

If I could, I'd live off tacos and beer.

If I could, I'd live on my own island... there would be no dress code, nudity is optional.

If I had a million dollars, I could spend it in less than an hour.
