  1. From the album: Tig's Pierce Progress

This is the other side of the stairs. The wasted space under them bothers me too - so I think I might try to make use of it by making a built in shelf or some sort of secret cubby hole.
  2. I finally got it! I'm building my first house, the Orchid. I literally sat and stressed for hours yesterday about the stairs, which were horrible and splintery and way too big really for the housel. So I found angieaug's video on youtube and the lightbulb went on. I cobbled together a set this morning that fits like I want and she made it easy as pie. Eating pie that is, lol. So thanks to her! They are drying but I need to figure out wallpaper and stuff before I put them in permanently.
  3. Hi everyone, I’ve been struggling with the Beacon Hill stairs. Problems with glue, dog thinking my stair assembly was a toy and managing to get to it.(when did he learn to fly.?????) Most of it was saved. I cut new parts from the discard cutouts. But I’m not thrilled with my doggie enhanced stairs. Can I buy a ready made staircase that will fit? I saw a curving staircase on line It would be worth it to me to buy it if it would fit to get past the frustration. Has anyone tried something like this? Has it worked out? Thanks Austin’s mom photo of stairs is attached
  4. From the album: Shabby Chantilly

Yay!! The stairs are in. The install gave me serious anger issues but I finally got them in.
  5. Not a question....more of a rant. I love my laser cut Chantilly but I really am angry at the stairs. I mean, seriously? Why?? Why fight me on the install? Let me tell you....they didn't look hard and the instructions are a bit lacking but holy smokes! The slide in stair rail is a b#tch!! Rant over. The end.
  6. From the album: My First Dolls house

I planned on leaving the landing open to the downstairs but realism won out and I had to make it look usable aka safe. I made the banister to match the dining room divider.

hope the instructions aren't in german lol
  8. Hi, Has anyone moved the interior bathroom wall over to make a passageway to the 2nd bedroom to make it more realistic? Am thinking of making a removable wall for the bathroom so its more logical than having to walk thru the bathroom to get to the 2nd bedroom. This would mean that I'd need to have a banister for the left side of the 2nd staircase and this is where it gets complicated. I'm thinking of making interior walls for the lounge and dining room so I wouldn't need the banister for there so I'm debating whether to either cut off the wall part of the ground floor stairs and use that banister for the 2nd staircase which makes sense to do so. Any views on my idea before I commit this to reality?
  9. From the album: stairs

I planned to use these stairs to start with. Then I noticed the inlay in the flooring runs right through it.
  10. I'm really wrestling with this issue and I need your honest input. I assembled my stairs from the first floor to the second and put them in place for a fitting. It was at this time I realized he inlay in the floor runs right through the stairs. Oh no how awful looking. After looking at this from every direction I started thinking outside the box. I came up with a design that would keep the stairs above the floor so it doesn't interfere with the inlay. The problem with this idea is they are a more modern design so I'm not sure if they will look okay in this house. Keep in mind these are just taped to the wall for now. They are like a Z shape so the first floor stair also supports one of the second floor stairs. Both sets of stairs would have some type of railing so picture them with railing installed. Any input would be welcomed no matter how harsh. I wish I had planned that flooring totally different but that can't be changed.

    From the album: stairs

I came up with this design. Since it is above the floor it doesn't interfere with the inlay.
  12. It bothers me that the attic on the Rosedale is inaccessible - just a hole in the floor. I've looked at pulldown stairs or just building another staircase, but that wouldn't be easy to do at this point because the basic structure is assembled. Also, the Rosedale is painfully small, and I don't want to lose more floor space. I saw the Greenleaf newsletter suggestion to make fake pulldown stairs. I'd prefer something more functional, but maybe that's no longer an option because the structure is assembled?
  13. I'm planning on putting stairs in my cigar box house project. I've looked at Railroad accessories and the stairs have a stringer with treads but no risers. I'm sure this is great for those outdoor setting railroad scenes, but not for my indoor needs. I considered these from Petite properties: http://petitepropertiesltd.com/onlineshop/index.php?_a=product&product_id=279 But I am doing unusually high ceilings in my cigarbox house (4") so these would be too short. I am open to partial faux stairs and "suggestions" of stairs as this scale is hard to work in. IN SHORT - I am looking for any input on making tiny stairs. Did you give up? Did you find it easy? Did you make stringers with risers and treads, or just use little blocks of wood? Thanks! I've fallen way down the rabbit hole and am dabbling in 1:48 scale. With laser cutters, the furniture options seem to have really opened up and even gotten more affordable.
  14. Happy new year! :kicking: Here I am with five hours to go before 2015 begging for dollhouse help from the wonderful forum members! I was wondering if anyone has had any problems installing non-kit spindles, balustrades, railings and newel posts on Greenleaf stairs. Here is my background: I totally destroyed the stair railing from my Lily kit, so I'm trying to use alternative (houseworks) components just to make the raining, spindles, etc. (but not the stairs--treads, risers and stringers--themselves). I've tried to use what remains of my railings as a guide, but nothing is working! The railings do not fit on the spindles and newel posts (even though they are designed to). I'm wondering if it's because the Greeenleaf (Lily's) stairs are not the same angle as "regular" dolls' house stairs…? Thank you for your help in advance! I've been searching this topic and nothing has come up specifically about this kind of "bashing" (to my knowledge). Bonne Année to all!

I wanted to add some pizzazz to the red stairs with a white accent. Thank goodness I kept all my scrapbooking punches from the 1990's! Even though these will not be visible from the rear opening of the house, I hope they look pretty when seen through the front door or window.

  17. From the album: My First Build: The Beacon Hill

Woo hoo! Stairs are stained and installed!
  18. I'm at the point where Maggie needs the bottom floor covered. It is going to be too intense to cut out around the stair section, so I'm thinking of just covering the whole floor, then cutting out the slots and then sliding the whole stair unit into position. It seems to be wedged pretty tightly in between the two floors. Is there any reason to glue it down? Or am I going to mess up the stair rails and banisters that way?
  19. From the album: Tig's Pierce Progress

This is a close up of the stairs for the Pierce. I never liked the flat splindles - so I have decided that they HAVE TO GO! I'll be chopping them off and adding real spindles and a nicer hand railing.
  20. From the album: More building projects

I didn't like the stairs that came with the kit , so I made my own out of basswood and stained them with gunstock.

From the album: Real Good Toys Victorian Cottage

Stairs are stained and glued, awaiting polyurethane. It was a struggle for several months to figure out how to use the rounded spindles instead of the flat ones. I think the effort was worth the result so far.
