I was wondering if anyone else who is currently working on a Christmas house would like to have a thread to discuss ideas, baking tips, creative display, inspiration...etc. Im planning to put all other projects aside and immerse myself in Holly Cottage. Last year at this time I was doing a Christmas house for my Mom and didn't have time to put one together for myself (my sister made off with my previous Christmas mouse house). Im not particularly happy with the house that I chose to become my current Christmas Cottage, now that Im starting to decorate its just too limited on space to satisfy. Side note: Ive got a Marquam Hill in the garage screaming to me, but its way too late in the year to make a substitution...so this is it and I'll try to make the best of it, although I wont be gluing anything down, and hope to move into a new, bigger place for next year. I posted a few pictures in my gallery but just a tip for anyone who hadn't thought of it, the collage style scrapbook papers for the holidays are great for gift wrap (I use balsa wood cut ups for the "box") and the little paper sections can also be cut down for gift tags or cards. If you can get ahold of the book Christmas Confections it has some great projects in it, and describes the tree making process. Also, now is a good time to buy your lycopodium..everyone seems to run out by late November since its so popular with miniaturists, I like to stock up before it gets raided Just thinking/typing out loud..I wonder what the most popular kit is to make into a Christmas house? My guess would be the Buttercup. Thoughts, ideas, links, rambling about your own holiday project, most welcome...

Forgive me if this has been covered in another topic already. I did a search yesterday but couldn't find a definitive answer. I'd like input from those of you with more experience. I'm looking to start building some of my own furniture, and would like to know which tools y'all use the most, and if there are any brands better than others? I have been looking at the Dremel 3000 or 4000, but then I saw something in the forum yesterday that talked about the Proxxon rotary tool. Looks cool, but the "no returns" clause has me a little nervous. What other power tools should I look into? Table saws, jig saws, etc.? Should they be specifically for miniatures (I'm thinking yes), or can you just pick them up at Lowe's? If not, where do you buy them? Also, which magazines do you think have the most value as far as building projects, or are they all really about the same? I'm trying to decide which to subscribe to (I can't subscribe to all of them at this time). Thanks for any advice you can offer!
