  1. Hello! New to this forum. I have built my Laurel dollhouse and am starting to decorate interior. Would love to see how others laid out their kitchen/living room/dining room. Thank you so much!
  2. I have been trying to rework the stairs to fit a powder room underneath....Well, there is not going to be a powder room. Every family needs two bathrooms for crying out loud!!!( I think I'll stash one in the attic) It has been slow going, but I have my room layouts complete, and somewhat achieved the open concept I was going for. I realize I shot myself in the foot by my choice of stair placement. The kitchen will be really undersized and the dishwasher may inaccessible. Next up....electricty
  3. My sweet Hubby made a beautiful base for my house. What are your recommendations for attaching it? The base will fit through a door, There is nothing hiding under the house like electrical, plumbing etc... Should it be permanently mounted? Do you glue it or screw it.....Can you give me some of your experiences and recommendations? I am also going to do some landscaping. Thank you for any advice.
  4. My current project is repairing a very used, maybe not finished Laurel that I got for $10 on Craigslist. One of the things I know I want to do is remove the doors, which are currently glued in place, and add hinges so they can open. They are currently hot-glued in place, and I know that I can use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the glue for removal, but I'm concerned about what the heat will do to the windows in the doors themselves. The plastic looks very thin and I don't want it melted or warped if I can help it. Has anyone else dealt with this before? What did you do? Should I just plan on replacing the plastic while I have the doors out?

    Greenleaf Laurel

    From the album: Laurel/Chelsea Bash

This is how I bashed the inside of the Laurel.
  7. From the album: The Laurel Build

Front view of the little house that couldn't make up its' mind. Is it a farm house? Is it a Cape cod/colonial (dormers)? Is it a Victorian (Fish scale gables)? My best answer is it is an early American farmhouse with the original stone foundation and fireplace. It has been through many updates as decades have passed. Including the addition (double decker primrose bash). The current owners have been renovating the inside for a more modern open concept design.
  8. From the album: The Laurel Build

Not quite level or is it plumb....its an old house!
  9. From the album: The Laurel Build

Kitchen to the left, formal living room to the right. I was trying to sneak a powder room underneath the stairs and keep the open concept modern family house. Ended up with a cramped kitchen
  10. From the album: The Laurel Build

Full view of house. Double Laurel bash to the left. SHOULD NOT HAVE PUT THE STAIRS THERE.
  11. From the album: The Laurel Build

I will finish the railing right before I glue the stairs in place.
  12. From the album: The Laurel Build

Using Popsicle sticks to make fish scale trim. Not as fast as I had anticipated. I am also adding windows to the gable ends.
  13. From the album: The Laurel Build

Trying to decide what material I am going to cover the fireplace chimney.
  14. From the album: The Laurel Build

I painted and started siding the Laurel. The two story Primrose bash is to the right. I also closed off the front door to make it into the future kitchen window.
  15. Hello Everyone, I have been peeking around the forum for a few weeks since my miniature obsession began. I saw Ann's post and thought it was awesome to see another person from Las Vegas. I have never personally built a dollhouse, but I bought one for my daughter a few years ago. She has built it and decorated, but not completed it yet. I bought it for her because she was enchanted with my Mother's dollhouse. I guess it runs in the blood? I am starting out with a room box to get my feet wet and have bought 'The Laurel'. I thought it would be a good starter house. I'm having a blast so far. I had a little mishap cutting the window and door for the room box. Dremels look so easy to use....I now refer to the mishap as termite damage ;) I will try to upload some photos as soon as I can resize the files. I look forward to watching and sharing with the the other Laurel builders. Carrie
  16. I dry fit the Laurel, then the primrose. I am adding rooms to the Laurel so it will have 6 rooms. I double decked/bashed two Primroses. I think I should have approached it differently, but I want the the floors to line up. I experimented with raw wood paint, sealer. I like it better because it has no odor. The Laurel is glued except for the roof. I'm adding dormers to the attic space. I am leaving out the room dividers for now, and I am going to reconfigure the stairs. Onward and upward!
  17. Hi, I've managed to start an album and will show some progress pics as soon as possible. Before I do that though, could someone help me with a question? Would the doors from an Orchid fit in the Laurel? I created a wall and door space, and would like to add a door that matches the other quite plain doors internally for the Laurel. I have an Orchid kit and could use a door and trim from this kit, then upgrade the doors in the Orchid if it would work. What do you all think?
  18. Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now but thought I should introduce myself. I'm Amanda, I live with my family in Tasmania. I had a dollhouse as a young girl that was built for me by my grandparents - a five room flat roof house which you played with from a bird's-eye perspective after lifting off the roof/top. I loved it very much - furniture was all handmade using matchboxes, it had carpet and wallpaper. My daughters both had dollhouses, but more for Barbies than the traditional 1:12 scale. I then collected a 'part work' to build a dollhouse which I never got around to. I still have most of the furniture and will be using it finally when my LAUREL and oops just bought an ORCHID as well on ebay! Postage times are killing me at the moment. I recently also bought a handmade dollhouse which I have been refurbishing while I wait for the others to arrive. It has been lots of fun learning how to wallpaper and lay floors. This one is huge and will probably go to my niece. I am enjoying ogling all the beautiful pictures and dreaming of my first builds. Thank you for reading, look forward to getting to know you all.
  19. I am starting The Laurel and am having a problem. Instructions say there are interior and exterior window casings on sheet (7) but sheet (7) does not contain any type of casings. Can someone tell me what to do or where i can find them. Thank you Judi

Probably the most tedious paint job I have ever done. I think I hate painting the most.

Floors are completely glued down! what a headache! I think next time I will just splurge and buy the flooring sheets. Each "floor board" liked to curl everytime I tried to glue it down. It made getting the floor nice and even really hard.

There's no changing my mind now! I divided up the attic so that it is two rooms and I finally started wallpapering. so far it's going great. no mishaps yet.
