Here is the bark detail I've created with air dry clay.. this is supposed to be a bit of a gnarly old tree. The clay cracked a bit, but I'm using that to my advantage. I'm not overly happy with the paint job.. I think I'll tone down the grey to a muddier tone and use a different colour to highlight.. but which colour is the million dollar question... . I do want to try and add a bit of grey lichen growth though.. not sure how to achieve that.... hmmm.. need to put my thinking cap on.
  2. From the album: First Dollhouse DC San Franciscan SF557

Today I did a little maths and figured out the size of the cantilever off the porch for the redesigned front stairs. I've glued my three flights of stairs together and mocked them up here. I still have some tweaking to do, but I like how they are turning out. I think I will have the top flight as painted wood with railings to suit the porch railing (which I will be changing). The second and third flight of stairs will either be completely bricked in a brown tone brick or have bricked risers and and "concrete" slab treads. You can't really tell here but there is a decent window well un

    The Perfect Lawn

From the album: The Garfield by S. Mehreen

I took clumps of flocking material, and patted them down to create a thin layer of grass on the base. I mixed small batches so that the mixture would not dry out while I worked, but the process went quite fast for me. This is the first time that I ever flocked dollhouse lawn, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Read more at: http://thegarfieldblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-perfect-lawn.html

    The Perfect Lawn

You can use Scenic Cement to glue the grass on, or you can simply use watered down white glue. I have used both during my project, and got the same result. If you are watering down glue, make sure it is not so watery that it will not hold down the grass after it dries. It will be the consistency of full-cream milk, and slightly slimy from the glue. I poured the flocking material into a disposable bowl, and mixed it with the glue so it looked like avocado dip. Read more at: http://thegarfieldblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-perfect-lawn.html

    The Perfect Lawn

From the album: The Garfield by S. Mehreen

Many many years ago, I had bought two Woodland Scenics landscaping kits from Hobby Lobby. I finally dusted off the boxes and was surprised that the Scenic Cement (watered down glue) was still OK to use! I found one medium pouch of "Green Blended Turf" and smaller pouches of "Burnt Grass Fine Turf," "Green Grass Fine Turf" and "Medium Green Coarse Turf," all of which I mixed together in a zip-lock bag to get enough material to flock the lawn.
