  1. I was wondering if anyone else who is currently working on a Christmas house would like to have a thread to discuss ideas, baking tips, creative display, inspiration...etc. Im planning to put all other projects aside and immerse myself in Holly Cottage. Last year at this time I was doing a Christmas house for my Mom and didn't have time to put one together for myself (my sister made off with my previous Christmas mouse house). Im not particularly happy with the house that I chose to become my current Christmas Cottage, now that Im starting to decorate its just too limited on space to satisfy. Side note: Ive got a Marquam Hill in the garage screaming to me, but its way too late in the year to make a substitution...so this is it and I'll try to make the best of it, although I wont be gluing anything down, and hope to move into a new, bigger place for next year. I posted a few pictures in my gallery but just a tip for anyone who hadn't thought of it, the collage style scrapbook papers for the holidays are great for gift wrap (I use balsa wood cut ups for the "box") and the little paper sections can also be cut down for gift tags or cards. If you can get ahold of the book Christmas Confections it has some great projects in it, and describes the tree making process. Also, now is a good time to buy your lycopodium..everyone seems to run out by late November since its so popular with miniaturists, I like to stock up before it gets raided Just thinking/typing out loud..I wonder what the most popular kit is to make into a Christmas house? My guess would be the Buttercup. Thoughts, ideas, links, rambling about your own holiday project, most welcome...
  2. ... that you've had the idea to make from "normal" stuff? The other day I was in Michael's looking at their beads when I saw a strand that reminded me of poop balls. I instantly thought about making Fimo dung beetles and decided I had to have it. Now I'm contemplating an Egyptian room box. What about y'all?
  3. Okay, so I have been working on the Canterbury for awhile now but the ideas that keep coming are flooding my brain! I had to set it aside for awhile as all the details were becoming a little too much to handle. Working on a wine box to house my McKinley stairs to relax the old brain cells for awhile. Was thinking this morning that when a story idea would come to mind, it would keep swirling around in there until I wrote it down, then I was fine. Perhaps writing all this stuff down would have the same effect--I sure don't want to give up on the Canterbury, I love that little house! Perhaps writing it all down will stop the "detail crazies"!
  4. I am sure many of you have made ordinary kit doors into something beautiful..... So I am looking for ideas/pictures on how to jazz up my Garfield kit doors. I am purchasing some doors already made but some of the slimmer doors I just want to dress up a little. My original idea was to print out pictures of door panels and seal it on....has anyone done this? Second idea is to use some sort of trim to dress them up/frame them out. -Angie
