    Fireplace close up

From the album: First Dollhouse DC San Franciscan SF557

Close up of the fireplace. Nice and sooty. It's not as dark in RL, but I couldn't capture it with my phone camera.. :/ Once I grout, I'll grubby that up too. There is a small Fret/Fire Basket set DH105 and matching coals that I would like to get to set in the hearth.
  2. From the album: First Dollhouse DC San Franciscan SF557

This is the latest dryfit of the dining room. The floors have been installed on their template & will be painted & distressed I think. The fireplace interior brick has been painted awaiting grout. I need to figure out how to simulate a marble hearth (just a stand in piece of mat board with lines at the moment ) The windows are giving me trouble. It seems the pieces that have the window tracks in them have had a piece broken off them over the years and so are no longer wide enough to fit the bays. I've currently got them shimmed with paddle pop sticks, but need to come up with

    Chimney Breast

From the album: First Dollhouse DC San Franciscan SF557

I currently have the stair wall as a feature wall of painted horizontal tongue and groove but I'm thinking of doing the entire room like this with the exception of the chimney breast which would be white card painted like plaster. I feel if I do the whole room in painted tongue and groove then the floor needs to stay some sort of wood colour for a point of difference but I'm not sure what colour. I'm really partial to my distressed painted floor idea so not sure what to do.
  4. From the album: 2014 HBS Creatin' Contest--Erabliere Aucoin, Sugar Shack and Shop

In this shot you can see that the scratchbuilt shop has a huge opening on the wall which meets up with the Contest kit. In the kit house, the opening was designed to accommodate a garage door but I elected to use the opening to merge the two buildings, as if the shack had once had a solid wall which the Aucoins tore out to attach their shiny new shop and make the entire place hang together as a whole.
  5. From the album: 2014 HBS Creatin' Contest--Erabliere Aucoin, Sugar Shack and Shop

Of course I knew the measurements from before the kit arrived, but this was my first chance to see right in front of me, exactly how much space this multi-part project was going to take up!

    Pierce Dry Fit 4

From the album: The Hideaway (Pierce)

This is just another shot of the dry fit. I like the color I chose for the lattice. It is actually stain that we have on the woodwork of our RL house. I also used stone textured paint for the balance. I am not sure what I am going to do for the porch and steps. I am just waiting to see what direction the rest of the house takes.

    Pierce Dry Fit 3

From the album: The Hideaway (Pierce)

I got smart and did the dry fit again after primer and paint. Ended up trimming and sanding most of the tabs. I can always fill them in later.

    Pierce Paint

From the album: The Hideaway (Pierce)

We tested a few different exterior colors. This color was chosen as Renee wants it to be a little whimsical. It is a mis-tint that I picked up at Home Depot. The interior will be pretty straight forward, but this will definitely stand out. Framing might me navy blue or another variation. More than likely it will not end up white.

    Pierce Dry Fit 2

From the album: The Hideaway (Pierce)

I have not always been big on spending a lot of time on dry fits. However, past experience has taught me this is definitely necessary. This is the largest house I have done to date. It is also the first one I have done where I did not paint and decorate prior to assembly. This will be fun. Yes, I did miss priming one of the walls...lol.
