  1. So, Monday morning started like all the others. I started writing down things I had to do this week because it was gonna be a busy week full of appointments. Around 11 am I got a email from a friend from the Greenleaf forum. Emily told me that one of my houses that I sold years ago was on Craigslist in Wisconsin. At first, I pictured it to be one of my earlier houses before I was using paper clay. I pictured it to maybe one from when I first started out because I sold a few of those here in Wisconsin and Illinois. I clicked the link and was surprised because it was the McKinley dollhouse kit that I built for the Greenleaf construction blog!! How did that get here from California?!! I sold it to a lady who lived in California in 2008. I remembered a couple of years ago seeing it on eBay. So, I said to myself “before you get excited, send them a message.” The listing had been “Live” for 11 days and it looked like a thrift/charity store. I sent the message and then decided to look them up and call instead of waiting for an email reply. The store was a little over 2hrs away from me. I called and asked about the dollhouse listed on Craigslist. My name was signed on the back of the house so he began to tell me about how it was dropped off in the donation center with a box of other related things. He kept talking about it’s a nice solid built dollhouse. He said he don’t know who Tracy Topps was but that the person dropping it off said he’d come back with more dollhouse stuff he had to get rid of! So finally I asked, was the dollhouse still there, and he said yes it was! I had to pay over the phone because they couldn’t hold it for me otherwise. I told him I was Tracy Topps and I had built this and shipped it to a lady in California 11 years ago! He got excited then and said well now I want to know how it ended up back here and how did you find out since you live so far away from here. So we chatted for a little bit longer. I wanted to go get it Monday so badly because I was worried it might be gone when I got there or damaged more. I got there and it’s still pretty solid. Some shingles are missing or paint is scuffed off. It’s dusty and the insides are scuffed and damaged a little. The staircase and fireplace had been removed and damaged and the lighted fire doesn’t work in it. Several other lights are missing or broken too. I haven’t checked to see what’s working or not because once again, I have errands to run. But, when I got home, I opened the 3 drawers below the house and discovered several dolls and other things along with the box of furniture that has some things from Rhuetter Porcelain & Heidi Ott. A few of the dolls are by Detta’s Darlings (eBay name) some things I’m not sure who made. I got this all for about $100 including a tank of gas! They were just all happy it found it’s way back to someone who could clean it up and fix it. I think several people who worked there didn’t even know it was there because they all were saying how nice it was and asking each other where was it at in the store and how much was it sold for when it made its way to the front of the store. I never find dollhouse bargains at thrift stores EVER so finding my OWN dollhouse was exciting, but finding all this other stuff was really a treat!! I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with it yet. I’ll decide as I restore it but that’s the story of Stone Brair dollhouse (Which was the name we gave it back then and it’s signed as that on the back you can see my photos of some of what I got by clicking here https://flic.kr/s/aHsmJNPf1h Thank you Emily for letting me know and Thanks to Carmen who told her about it! I’m so EXCITED to have this back!
  2. I found a house on Craigslist and just spoke to the woman thru email. She asked me to make an offer on the house. I told her I wasn't really interested in the dolls or furniture, but was told she wants them out and to make an offer based on the house. She doesn't know too much about it, other then saying they look old. The pics are "Ok" I guess, but hard to make a ton out. I was wondering if anyong can take a look and let me know if they know anything about this house, Who it's made by, how old it is, If it's worth even making an offer on, and if so, what would be a fair offer without being an insult? Thank you in advance for any info or advice. Just want to make sure before doing anything else dumb like my 2 Ebay purchases that were a complete FAIL and disaster. LOL. Thanks again Kris The two pics of the DH that were posted, I attatched. They're kind of hard to make out alot of detail or info. I asked for other pics from her. But I still know nothing about dating or knowing brands or info on houses myself. Thanks again a ton. These r how they were posted.ere are the two of the DH she has up on the post. First is the outside the 2nd as u can see is the inside.(Sorry about them being sideways, that's the way they were/are.) The rest of the pics on the post are of the furniture and dolls that go with it that i'm still a little curious about. Any info is welcome. Here is the link to the post directly to show the other stuff that goes with it. I'm unsure if it all went together or even relate to one another or will help to identify it or give me any info. Anything at this point is welcome so as I know what to do. CL Add: http://cnj.craigslist.org/bab/3538525384.html
  3. From the album: My Travel Finds

I picked up a partially built Fairfield and a partially built MiniTown Loft kit off of CL. These pics are from the craigslist listing. I am not sure what I am going to do with them, but for $30 I couldn't say no.

  5. From the album: My Travel Finds

My latest find. This was in NE Philly on Craigslist. I got it for $40 and the guy delivered it to my hotel. Normally I take them on the plane with me as checked luggage, but since I am in a walking boot I made a stop at FedEx Office on my way to the airport. I can't wait to get started!

This cracked me up. This was the CL listing pic. This is an old RGT (Walmer) Georgetown. The lady's grandfather gave it to her nearly 20 years ago. The box was still sealed. I seem to see a pattern in these stories...lol. I was thinking about flipping this one, then she got emotional thinking back on it and asked me to send her some pictures once I got it built. Now what do I do?
  7. Okay, so like many of us I have a lot of DH kits. I need to unload some in order to keep my sanity. I thought I would give forum members first crack before I throw them on eBay. A few items to know: PM's do not work. My Yahoo email address is in my profile. I am out of town on a business trip, so I may be a little slow to respond. Kits will go on a first spoken for, first go basis. Shipping will be parcel post from the Indianapolis area. We can work out the details later. I did not post pics. If you search hard enough you will find pictures of these DH's and kits. All are in the box and as far as I know are complete. I will update this posting as kits are sold. The list: Greenleaf Fairfield Greenleaf Buttercup Greenleaf Orchid (2) (one box has been opened / one is still sealed) Dura Craft Old Towne (this is the HO scale kit) Dura Craft San Franciscan (SF-550) Dura Craft Newberg (2) Dura Craft Cambridge Artply Tennyson Artply Whitney RGT Country Farmhouse (1/2 scale) RGT Vermont Farmhouse Junior RGT Georgetown (Walmer box) Thanks!!
  8. From the album: My Travel Finds

Okay, not really a travel find. This pic is from the barn sale where I found my "Little Shop of Horrors" house. What you don't see in the pic is the other table of mini furniture and the box of miniature and doll books under the table. Everything to the left of the fireplace was in the shop when it was on display. She had built it as a fabric and dress shop. The lady was kicking herself as she had thrown a lot of mini items away earlier in the week because they had broken legs or other issues (not realizing someone might be able to fix and use them). There is some "Ideal" brand items in here and a lot of other vintage pieces. I have a couple of ideas for them.
  9. From the album: My Travel Finds

Picked up on the way back from moving my son into his grad school apartment. The guy had it for two years and never did anything with it. The person he bought it from had done the same thing.
  10. From the album: My Travel Finds

This little beauty came to me through a work acquaintance. He knew I was into minis and had a friend selling a kit. I was "ambushed" outside an office in Roanoke as the guy thought I agreed to buy it. I hadn't even spoken to him. I threw a $50 figure at him thinking he would balk. I barely got the amount out before he yelled "SOLD!" It came with eight furniture kits. the sides and floors were hot glued together. I spent an hour and a half in my hotel room with a clothes iron heating it up and pulling it apart. I only uploaded one pic, but TSA put a huge amount of tape around it. It is a good thing the boxes aren't collector items.

The foundation in pieces when I was done. Another Craigslist find. This one was in Lynchburg, VA and I picked it up for $40. The stairs and foundation were hot glued. I was able to fit the stairs in my suitcase, but spent a couple of hours that night in my hotel room with a clothes iron getting the foundation apart so I could get it in the box, tape it up and check it as luggage. Foundation before and after pics are shown. They had used stone textured paint around the bottom which made my little "heat and peel apart" project a little tougher.

Hopefully the Hofco kit I just bought will look something like this when I am done.

My latest find. Unfortunately he had sold or given away the furniture and "goodies." This was in NE Philly on Craigslist. I got it for $40 and the guy delivered it to my hotel. Normally I take them on the plane with me as checked luggage, but since I am in a walking boot I made a stop at FedEx Office on my way to the airport. I can't wait to get started!
