  1. When you are making a pinning board from a ceiling tile and you cover it with graph paper, which side do you cover? I assume it’s the side with the least holes.
  2. From the album: The Glencroft Dollhouse: Living Room and Dining Room

Another shot of the finished ceiling. For the white part, (before I glued in the walls) I painted the ceiling with 5 layers of white chalk paint I had leftover from a shabby chic project. Sanded it till it was paper smooth with 400 grit sandpaper, and then waxed it to seal it and give it that satin glossy look. I did the same thing for the dining room walls except I used a small brush to apply the paint and then lightly sanded so you can still see the texture to emulate plaster.
  3. I'm curious as to what the ceiling height in the Lily. I'd like to use rebuilt stairs and I can only find them adjustable for 9" to 10" ceiling heights. I'm currently finishing my first build, the Westville, and it has 8" ceilings. The stairs are my least favorite part of the build and I'd like to avoid a repeat.
  4. This is a long shot question, but is there a front opening dollhouse out there with 12" ceilings? I'm a newbie and I've only dabbled in vignettes and simple room boxes, but I prefer the realism achieved with that ceiling height. The only examples I'm familiar with that use higher ceilings are Jon Fish and Larry Osborn's houses ("The Guys From Texas"). I realize scratch building is probably my only option (bespoke is totally out of my budget) but if anyone can at least direct me to pictures of similar projects it would be very helpful.
  5. From the album: M and D's Victoria's Farmhouse

Master bedroom ceiling installed, ready for crown molding.
  6. From the album: My First Rehab Project - Jewel

Some of the textured paper I found at Hobby Lobby.
  7. From the album: Little Shop of Horrors

(Yes I know it is upside down. I am still waiting for the glue to dry.) The ceiling and roof are a bit challenging due to the viewing window. I trimmed the ceiling pieces and installed them. I will probably try another round of Gesso and wiping to help hide the seams in the corners. The box is more than 17" wide, so I couldn't go one piece straight across. So far I like the way it looks.

    Tin Ceiling

From the album: Little Shop of Horrors

Sooo...I was cutting the tin ceiling pieces when it dawned on me: the shop is kind of dreary and the ceiling is BRIGHT white. I thought for a while and came up with a solution. I took gray Gesso and painted a thin coat on the plastic. I then took a dry paper towel and wiped most of it off. It is almost a dry brush method, but it worked to take the shine off.
  9. I'm in the process of deciding what to do with the ceilings on my Beacon Hill. It's my first mini. I've noticed this site is full of bona fide artists. I love perusing the galleries. Please inspire me by sharing your ideas and your how tos.
  10. Hello everyone, I'm brand new to houses, miniatures, and "E. all of the above". I purchased an assembled Duracraft vm800 victorian mansion from the sweetest lady who was legally blind, terminal with cancer, and had spent years building her house. It was assembled in the worst possible way, but it has such charm and character that I could not tear it down completely without destroying it. I have repaired as many things (millions it seems) as possible. The main problem is that she spackled the ceilings after wiring, and now most of the fixtures have been broken,, and I can't get to the wiring to repair them. Here is the million dollar question: Does anyone know of any way to get that stuff OFF the ceiling? or am I just going to have to go the LED way? I would do that, but I have fixated on doing a 1940's/1950's house (like my grandma's), so I'm having to build/create many things in it. I was hoping to use some of the original wiring, just because I guess. No logical reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much! Suzi *I will post pics of the rooms as they get closer to their destinations if anyone is interested.
