  1. So awhile ago my chinchilla escaped and chewed up a bunch of wallpaper in my Alexandria. I was working on it today touching up a few things and trying to get the front stairs in since I never did. Anyway, for some reason, I can't get them to fit and I accidentally broke the piece the stairs go behind.. sigh.. now I have to glue 3 pieces of the front of the house back together.. I got up to go wash glue off of my hands after gluing and taping these pieces back together, and when I came back I tripped over my cat and wham! right down on my knee and my elbow. I felt my leg land on some part of her but she won't let me check her. Also during the gluing, I must have leaned down to far and now I have glue in my hair. What a perfect night lol That's it for tonight missy! Just sit there and dry and think about what you've done! lol
  2. From the album: Mini Animals

I'm always enamored by the OOAK sculpted & flocked animals on Ebay, but I can never win an auction and they are quite expensive! So, I decided to buy a Schleich cat at the local toy store for the princely sum of $6 and flock it myself.... How hard could it be right?... Ummm it's hard! lol I have a real problem with overestimating my abilities and underestimating the skill required for a LOT of mini tasks. I'm sure there is a name for this affliction but I don't know what it is. Anyway, here is my first attempt. It took forever and involved quite a lot of attaching removing and reattaching combed wool to this tiny animal. I learnt a lot of things during this process. Mainly things I wouldn't do again... I applied way too much wool, I was going for coverage but it ended up creating the thickest coat ever on a cat (this Cat could live quite comfortably in Antarctica.) which made it incredibly difficult to shape, and ended up in a larger cat than is really true to scale... (I'm just going to call it a Maine Coon ).. Also, I used knitting 8 ply Merino wool which when combed out is quite curly. I did this to keep the budget down, but next time I would use specialty combed straight wool for this process.. It's expensive, but the result is superior and for the amount of hours spent on this project.. I really should have bought it. I also still need to work on the ear hair a bit and use some pastels to colour the nose & lip area. I also need to define the claws a bit more and perhaps some shading inside the ears. I can see another haircut may be in order also. Overall though, pretty happy with the first effort. I see now why people sculpt their own animals.. You can put them into poses that aid furring and give more definition to the legs and feet. I will probably try to do my own soon, but first I have to figure out how to make eyes. Her colouring was chosen to copy my first ever cat, Susie.. she was a fat lovely old soul who never scratched me even when I put her in the toilet and closed the lid....

For scale. The tail of the original Schleich model was removed and a new pose-able wire one attached. This project nearly sent me blind.. I'll need a magnifying glass for the next one.

Guess who found me! I guess ordinary cat toys are going to be too boring for this beauty.

  21. My little needle felted cat, in 1:12 scale along with her braided rug is on Ebay if anyone would like to bid on her and give her a home. Link to auction.
  22. From the album: Little Miniature Things I'm Crafting

This is a tiny needle felted cat made from undyed corriedale wool. I would say she is 1:12 scale. She measures .1.75" curled head to tail and is 1.5" front to back. She has embroidered eyes and nose and whiskers made from horsehair. I placed her on a 2" x 3" rug I made from a my hand dyed yarn, single crocheted in a chain then hand stitched in an oval to resemble a braided rug.
  23. From the album: Country House - Renovated

No matter how many new toys Holly gets, she will always love her toy cat. To prove it, she took her cat to bed with her on this very special night. The girls are in for some very special memories and dreams.

    Holly w. Socks

From the album: Country House - Renovated

Here is another picture of Holly and her cat. It got cold outside, so they came inside to play.
  25. From the album: Country House - Renovated

The original Holly Hobbie was a cat lover, and my Holly is true to her namesake. So when she asked for this stuffed animal, Grandpa bought it for her. Now if the cat were real, I would have to buy it a miniature litter box, but now I am off the hook. Holly named her cat Socks because it looks like the cat Chelsea Clinton had in the White House when her father was president. The family must be Democrats because both Fala and Socks were named after pets owned by Democratic first families. In any event, Holly and her cat are inseparable.
