  3. Hi all, Hoping that our forum of educated dollhouse builders/rehabbers may be able to point me in the right direction here. I'm looking at possibly buying an incredibly old and to my eyes lovely dollhouse -- but I know it will need restoration. I do not want the value to depreciate b/c I've attempted to rectify problems with it's current condition. However, there are also no qualified rehab artisans of antique dollhouses anywhere near me. If nothing else I would at least like to find some books on restorations and the how to's of, and indeed the older houses like Bliss and Gottschalk dollhouses to educate myself more. I was amazed today that though my local library has literally no books on dollhouses or miniatures at all, the librarian called the district director and they bought the book "The Genius of Moritz Gottschalk" and are going to contact me when it's in. I know I was beyond surprised they would do so, but was incredibly grateful as that book is expensive! I've a few books on Bliss houses already, but again -- nothing in regards to the restoration of antique houses. So now I'm left wondering if there are actually any books, or if folks may be willing to share sources and/or tips on antique dollhouse restorations? My thanks in advance for any possible help!

  7. From the album: Fairfield Furniture & Accessories

Today I made 30 little 1:24 scale books for my Fairfield lounge room bookcase. I downloaded the graphics from http://www.dustjackets.com and then edited them through cropping and resizing in Microsoft Word (oh I know - cutting edge technology here! ha!) making them slightly different sizes. I then printed, cut and sandwiched 1 inch plaster board in either 1, 2 or 3 sheets think depending on the width of the spines between the printed dust jackets. Each book measures 1cm - 1.5cm in height.

  9. Hi everyone! I'm back. I'm not sure if this is the right place, or if this post is appropriate. But I am SO excited about this I can't stand it and wanted to spread the word. I had the idea of making a website where dollhouses could be made as paper models (furnished and everything), and I'm also including some printable miniatures for regular builders. All of the items are in "digital kit form" and available for instant download. Anyway, my latest creation is a huge set of printable publications. I've worked out the bugs on how to do ACCURATE double sided printing via a simplification in calibration that works for any printer, and I digitally remastered a bunch of public domain publications. This kit includes 2 books, 4 magazines, 6 comic books, 9 antique maps, 1 atlas, and 4 newspapers). Once constructed, they are able to be read under a magnifying glass, and I include very simple and thorough instructions. I would love it if anyone interested would go and take a look at the site, and tell me what you think. Here's the link: KINETIC PAPER ART- Dollhouse Miniature Books w/ READABLE PAGES Digital Kit And here are a couple images of the finished items. So what do you think? A worthwhile project to pursue? Buying ready made items like this individually costs a fortune.

  11. From the album: Various Miniatures

These little bookshelves were filled with Italian books (philosophy, art, politics, etc). They were glued in place. The books were blank and the shelves themselves weren't so nicely made - for that price, I would expect a bit more elegance to the final product. They are cute, though!
  12. Hello ! I've always had a fascination with miniatures and dollhouses but was unsure how to get started. I finally purchased the Washington 2.0 in hopes of transforming It into my own version of "A Christmas Story" house. I have absolutely no clue on how to get started besides reading the instructions and was wondering if there is an informative how-to book on the dollhouse hobby. I did find " A Beginners' Guide to the Dolls' House Hobby: Revised and Expanded Edition" but there were mixed reviews. I just want the basics like tools, which glues are best, helpful hints for beginners. I realize that's what this whole site is for but I'd like to read something before I begin. Excited but nervous. I can tell this is going to be addicting

36 down....how many more to fill a bookcase? (The unfinished bookcase is a Cassidy Creations kit I left unfinished because I'm not sure yet what stain or paint I want to use on it.)

Even though there are 18 books stacked on the table I'll need lots more for the bookcase. These are just filler books that don't open. They take a bit of time to make but are sort of fun to do. The Magic book on the floor opens and has printed pages. I got it from eBay seller Terrie36. I've got several of her books and they are really nicely made with images and text on the pages and ribbon bookmarks! One of these days I'll try making books with printed pages. But in the meantime, more of these are needed.
  16. So a few of us were talking via status update about books and authors we like. :bookread: Someone (can't remember who) suggested starting a thread so here goes. I absolutely LOVE reading, can't do it as much as I like because I find it hard to stop once I get going and the family demands food, clean clothes, and interaction...I get quite grumpy when I'm interrupted..sounds a little like minis I like a lot of genres mystery, fantasy, occasionally sci-fi..sorry no big technical or computer stuff. Here are some of my favorite authors: C.L.Wilson- her books are under romance, but the storyline is awesome if you like fantasy Anne McCaffrey- she's deceased now, but her son is continuing her work in the sci-fi category C.S.Lewis - gotta love Chronicles of Narnia; must have read them 50 times Katie MacAlister- again romance/fantasy..her writing style cracks me up particularly the Aisling Grey series Agatha Christie- another classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - I would so love to do a Baker Street in mini Edgar Rice Burroughs- Tarzan and the John Carter series...amazing Caroline Graham- a wonderful British mystery writer. Midsomer Murders is based on her work What about you guys?
  17. I recently got a little book kit from Ann Vanture's Paper Minis site (http://www.paperminis.com/). It's of Hitty: Her First Hundred Years, and I put some pictures in a new album in my gallery. You can subscribe to a book of the month club, and I'm IN. Really great quality paper and imagery. I'm very impressed. I thought you might like to see the purty book. The print inside is SO TINY, but I can read every word. I love wee books!!! I've made some other mini books myself by grabbing book covers off google images, printing them on card stock, and gluing them to little pieces of wood. I'm working on libraries inside of Real Life book boxes. Hopefully, I will finish those one day.
  18. Although I am a relative newbie, I am amassing quite a collection of books and magazines. I used to use an app on facebook called virtual bookshelf which allowed you to add books to your 'library' so you could keep track (I have a lot of books, I mean A LOT!). Is anyone aware of this forum has something like that in the My content, or perhaps another website or app? I was thinking it would be nice to have something like that here so that members could keep track of what they have but perhaps also rate books in a more organized way than the book forum with the list of individual ratings. Thanks!
