  1. From the album: Designing my own house

This is why I bought the pen, to achieve more delicate faux iron staircase., First attempt with the scrolled ironwork, its rough but I think its possible with practice,

  4. From the album: Designing my own house

I bought this Frank Cresente fireplace in 2012, though it went well here in the French Chateau.
  5. From the album: Designing my own house

Always did love the peeking inside shots.
  6. From the album: Designing my own house

I always wanted a Faux iron staircase for the chateau, and now I am thinking about it again, I made these railings for another house and decided to try something similar here. wish me luck!
  7. From the album: Designing my own house

Worked on getting all the corbels in place that hold up the over door casings. only 2 left to finish in the upstairs hallway, starting to put my staircase railings back in place, ordered wallpaper for the upstairs hallway. And starting to think about a different stair case.
  8. From the album: Designing my own house

Finally found my lost staircase balusters and railings!!! It took me all week digging through everything about 3 times that's all. lol
  9. From the album: Designing my own house

I am touching up the Chateau, my door moldings all need repainted, some of the corbels are missing like this room, but I found them. They were never permanently attached I had a tendency of using museum wax to test things out. I have been working on the downstairs and exterior, but also getting the lighting hooked up again, even ordered another J Getzan Chandelier!
  10. From the album: Designing my own house

Finally purchased a proper rolling table for my scratch built French Chateau, now I can roll it out anytime and work on it! It was perched on stone pillars with a glass top, all these years, so if I wanted to work with it we had to transfer the entire thing to the dinning room table. Now maybe I will finish it!
  11. From the album: Designing my own house

Christmas present is hung in place, I have had my eye on this one for a very long time, it fits nicely in the 2nd story bedroom , ceilings are higher and this is almost 3 inches with out the chain, I have a mirror to mount above the fire place and it captures the reflection of these lights perfectly from the opposite end of the house,

    Flooring

From the album: Designing my own house

Here is another shot of the flooriing patterns, I have lots of art work I need to hang [ especially on that big empty wall, usually its an issue of finding the right frame

    flooring

From the album: Designing my own house

The flooring is something to satisfy me for now, nothing else has, it has a few flaws and thats really the only thing I dont like about it, The corbels on the door casing are uneven but they are only held in place by wax, Got to get those finished.
  15. From the album: Designing my own house

I ran out of the orange damask here so I picked a color that matched the fireplace as an option, I late got rid of the scrolling and then I tried one more paper that I like a little better
  16. From the album: Designing my own house

I was very inspired by a site I stumbled upon featuring a doll house called Merriman Park, So I got busy today making bump outs for the fireplaces in the Chateau, they add interest to the room and in some rooms, I didnt have enough of the original wall paper so I dug around and found complimentary papers that also add interest. Just getting started so this is not the finished fireplace wall.

    Wall panel size

From the album: Designing my own house

This shot gives an idea of the height of the panel, It will be made as a separate piece [ in case I change my mind] Then once its framed in with white moulding and made to fit the wall, maybe it will look right, it will be slightly smaller by then, I am out of white paint here, unbelievable!

    wall panel idea

From the album: Designing my own house

I like this wall panel idea in this room, I am going to frame it in white moulding. I started out just wanting to show you my new furniture from Small World Miniatures, the vanity and armoir, thanks Ken!
  19. From the album: Designing my own house

Yesterday was my first attempt at figuring out a pattern with a border. The border will continue into each room where I will change up the colors and patterns, I have tried a few patterns in the foyer, like a diamond outline in the center but didnt like it with the darker tiles that I used, will keep playing until I get it right.

The border will continue into each room where I will change up the colors and patterns, I have tried a few patterns in the foyer, like a diamond outline in the center but didnt like it with the darker tiles that I used, will keep playing until I get it right. As you can see I am testing two different designs on each side, I favor the left, but it would still have the border on the edge.

working on getting the double doors installed on the back wall, need to cast more brackets to support the over door, next I would like to design my own parquest flooring, I want a simple layout and if its custom I can tweak the colors.
  23. From the album: Designing my own house

Spent a lot of time on this house last week and over weekend, with cleaning windows and finally glueing them in permanently, working on faux flooring ideas, strengthening the back wall, adding supports, and figuring out how it will be attached and then working on the door casings for this wall. Two more sets of double doors arrived for the first floor doorways in this picture, but I decided they would block too much light so they will replace the french doors on the back wall, everything matches now.
  24. From the album: Designing my own house

The backdrop is my favorite pic from an old Castle Calendar. But I was reminded where my great love for miniatures stems from, as a kid my entire allowance each week went toward collecting view master reels from around the world as a kid, some of which had fabulous interiors!
  25. From the album: Designing my own house

I had no luck re wiring the chandeliers, I have 5 of these and only 1 works! But its OK this house doesnt look right with too much lighting due to the large windows, so I am using these just for decoration and the actual lighting comes from table lamps, wall sconces and candelabras
