  1. Hello! I'm currently working on my first dollhouse. I bought this already assembled and have noticed there are hinges in the corners of most of the rooms (photos attached) some of which stick out quite bit. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for how to hide these as I don't want them to show under my wallpapers. (it seems as if they were used to pull the corners of the dollhouse walls together) Thanks!
  2. I bought a lg box of minis and wanted some help identifying these- age etc if possible . Thank you in advance!
  3. Hello, I stumbled upon a Newberg at a local thrift shop for $3 the other day & obviously couldn't pass bringing it home. It was spray painted pink, had glitter glue adorning the exterior window casings & the roof was a lovely sponge painted gold & purple -- OOF. Anyhow, I've repainted the exterior to mimic local Victorian home I'm in love with, but wanted to reach out for some suggestions to replace the missing trimmings for the arched window frames. Reframing the square frames was easy enough, I just used some bass wood from the craft shop, but for the curved frames I'm at a standstill. Would you suggest cardstock or mat board? I supposed I could cut them all from wood, but it would be pricey & I'd likely ruin quite a few in the process. I'd also love some suggestions to add back the lovely gingerbread work to the window panes. I was thinking just adding the designs to some clear plastic with a paint pen...I've attached the house as it stands currently.
  4. I picked up a dollhouse trunk kit from an estate sale and thought it would be the perfect accessory for my most recent house building project. However, while all of the pieces/components were there, the kit was missing the critical instructions. I thought it would be a cinch since, after all, it was only a basic trunk, but when I poured out the contents there seemed to be a few more pieces than what was represented in the only drawing that was included. First off, just based on the picture (there was no manufacturer information included) can anyone identify this kit? Secondly, I am pretty since the inside is intended to be papered, that this is a fully functioning, hinged, trunk and that the additional pieces are a part of that mechanism, but I am unsure of how to proceed. Can anyone advise based on the picture? I will do my best to describe the pieces: The kit came with: Wooden pieces to assemble top and bottom of trunk (done) Brass findings for the top and sides of trunk (done) Brass latch for the front of trunk (done)--all placed based on picture The parts I am uncertain of: 4 brass half circles--I am assuming that these represent the back hinges, but am not sure if they belong visible on the back or on the inside back of the trunk when open 2 small brass medallions (they are cupped as seen in second picture). Each of the medallions has a small hole on one end 2 small brass wires that came pre-bent--I experimented with these and they pass easily through the hole in the medallions without going all the way through 2 small brass hoops that slightly thin at the joint 1, approx 1.5" brass wire 1 piece yellow satin ribbon
  5. I purchased some light bulbs to add to DIY light fixtures. When they came in the mail they were different than I expected. Mainly, the wires were much shorter and were not insulated. Did I order the wrong thing? Can I still use these for my light fixtures? I'm a total newbie to the Dollhouse world and this is my first build and first lighting project. However, I'm experienced in other handicrafts so if you have any advice I'm sure I could manage it. Thank you!
  6. Hi everyone I am excited to be here. I just found this new hobby and passion yesterday. To be honest, I can't wait to begin building! But there are so many things to consider before jumping into it. I have tried to find out which scale I want to build. A lot uses 1:12 inch scale. And I am sorry, but I don't get the inch scale. I have tried to google it in centimeters, which is what I use. If you take this door for example: http://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Dollhouses-Miniatures/Building-Electrical-Components/Miniature-Carolina-Door/p/21689 Then in centimeters it should be 19.69 high and 8.57 wide and 1.27 thick. Is this a 'normal' scale to use? I think it sounds a bit large for a dollhouse/miniature house. Thank you
  7. Hi y'all! I'm really just looking for guidance, if possible. I know nothing about dollhouses or miniatures, but I recently found my old childhood dollhouse from the 1970's and don't have a clue what to do with any of it. I'm very sentimental, so I can't just toss it, but I need to find out about how to go about selling it, and selling the furniture. It was a kit, all wood, with a bunch of furniture (made in Korea?)...Is it intrusive to upload a few pictures to see if anyone here could point me in the right direction? Thank you so much for any help! Oh...I'm Kim and in Marietta, GA...
  8. Hey all. So, I know there was a few people in the forums when I just googled 'willowcrest building instructions', and then I signed up and can't find those same threads. I inherited the willowcrest kit (bought in 1990) when my mother in law passed. But, there are no instructions in the box. Does anyone have an electronic copy they could email me? Pretty please?? Thanks in advance.
  9. I'm fixing up my old dollhouse from when I was a kid. I am NOT an expert at dollhouses ;) My problem is many of the windows are yellow now. About half of the windows are in the house and half have not been put in yet. Is there anything I can do other than taking out the windows and redoing it all? What material do you suggest using that won't yellow? I would put glass in them but don't want to risk it breaking if a kid is using the house.. and I don't see how it would work anyways since it is way thicker. Many of these windows slide open. Thanks for any help.
  10. I bought an fh505 for $30 from Craigslist about 2 years ago. I love making miniatures and finally have time to build the house. This is my first build and I am having a little bit of issue with construction. I have read the instructions many times over, and I've examined the pictures, but I'm still not sure I'm assembling it correctly. I don't want to mess it up. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of their progress AS they are building? Im a visual person and hope if I can see the way someone else is doing it, it might help me to figure out if I'm doing this correctly. Thanks in advance!
  11. Sob story. My dad died when I was four. He was in the process of building me this doll house when he passed. My mom let me play with it as a kiddo and between moving several times, numerous children, bad storage and at some point a horrible paint job.... well you can tell it is in bad shape. It is because of sentimental reasons that I am going to start this restoration project. I understand it would be much easier to start from scratch but it is important to me that my kiddos get to play with this dollhouse. That being said. I am going to start with the exterior. I need to know where I might find new roof pieces. Not detail pieces like the actual pieces that are not there anymore..... I have no idea what this model is or where to begin looking. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated
  12. Hi, i am in desprit need of som help, I've had this dollhouse for almost 8 years & just pulled it out to put together and realized I am missing some instructions. so I need help, I've already put the house together I have the windows that I'm clueless on how to do...help please!
  13. I just purchased a Skilcraft deluxe furniture kit at the thrift store for $3! It was an awesome find, but the instructions are missing. Everything seems intact, so I'm hoping someone on here has them stashed away somewhere.
  14. I Got the Pierce dollhouse kit from greenleaf a few months ago. I'm not done yet but I always stress out about the scale of furniture I need to buy when I'm done. I have no idea how it works, please help The box's says ( scale size 1"=1' ) what exactly does that mean? and with that information can you tell me the scale of furniture I need to buy?. Thank you
  15. Hi! I live in Tennessee & am starting my 1st dollhouse build at the ripe age of 24. I got the Allison by Artply kit since it was only $40 and thought it might be an easier first house. If anyone built that, any tips are helpful I am kind of nervous starting it...not sure where to start. The instructions are kind of lame & my work space for building sucks (think floor, upstairs computer desk, & downstairs kitchen table). Can't even find wallpaper paste where I live! Frustrating & nervous that I might mess up...but exciting Just ordered Caco type dolls as my dollhouse dolls.
  16. Hi all, My parents have had this dollhouse in the family for years. It's been under a tarp in my mom's basement for about 30 years. Last known records have the creator of the house dying about 1916, so we figure it was built in the late 1800's. It's believed to be modeled after my dad's grandmother's house in Vermont. Very cool! I've taken on the project of restoring it (I'm not sure I'm up for refurbishing). First question ... what's the best way to clean years of paint? It looks to be that an owner along the way gooped the paint on. I have no idea what kind of paint it is ... is there an easy way to determine this? Any advice for a newbie is welcome! Cheers, Heather
  17. I just started restoring my mother's beloved Van Buren dollhouse that her father made for her in the 70s. It has seen some VERY hard times, including a hurricane during the last attempt at restoration, but I'm making some progress on bringing it back to life. I have one concern though, the front door has gone missing, and the opening seems larger than typical dollhouse doors. I'm a total novice at this, and was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what I should do. I know they don't make Van Buren pieces anymore, so does anyone have any other suggestions?
  18. Kavita and I are in conflict over her houses. I always thought she was selfish about playing her houses but I shut up and listened to her a couple of days ago. Now I'm sad, I like things to be used. In ten years she's never "played" with her dolls house more than a few times. Her friends love it and want to spend hours playing with it. In the majority very carefully and I love it. They love the lights, the working electric garage doors, the cars. it's there to be enjoyed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time they leave it's all been tidied and rearranged. Thats what it's for isn't it?? Isn't that why I've spent HOURS building and deigning things for it????? The other day she said she doesn't like her friends playing with it. ????????? She wants it as a display ???!!!!???? Then I looked around her neatly organised 10yo room (Big doll house is in the lounge) Her GL Haunted house mounted on a Lazy Suzan so it's easy to play with...............set up as a display Her lego stuff (lots of it) All carefully mounted ontop of her book case as a display. her Fairy house and associated toys, mounted as a display. etc etc She isn't being selfish, she's being herself. She doesn't "play" with dolls!!!!!!! But she likes it on display. To me, if it isn't used - out the door! I've always told her, If they break anything in the house while playing it'll be fixed or replaced. It's there to be used. But it's her house. If she doesn't want it played with it should I prevent her friends playing with it?? But if it isn't used I don't know if I want to build it anymore. That sort of seems a waste of time. What do I do?????????????????? In her defence one girls brother played with it and broke several bikes and damaged a P5B Rover I'd bought. Another girl tried the wrong switch so the garage door didn't open so she forced it, stuff does get damaged but personaly I don't care. kavita and her mother however go crazy about that kind of thing. But I just fix or replace it. When we have guests they are all shown the house and all the "Things it does and has". Theres lots of oohs and aarrr's and that so cool, your so lucky, and then it's all turned off and shut away again. I don't know what to do. Now when something happens she goes " Two words Dad. "Display!"" And damit thats only one word!
  19. Hi, all, I've just purchased a wonderful mini kitchen and the sink came with a spigot that needed to be inserted in a pre-drilled hole. You guessed it: I broke off the tiny post by being too heavy handed. Darn it all! Anyone know how I can reattach this plastic piece now that the post is stuck in the sink? Superglue hasn't worked and I am scared to ruin the finish on the counter, though who would get close enough behind the sink to see it? Any and all suggestions are welcome. I figure if anyone would know the solution, it would be the pros on this board. Thanks!
  20. Hi, Has any one successfully divided a Garfield..//I almost didn`t buy it because of it`s size. Most of my doors will take it, but then I realised that when I`m gone my family will have the problem? Dianne A.
  21. Hi everybody, I am Sabrina, currently a New Yorker and a college student (studying history/english/law) on break, who was recently given the Greenleaf Beacon Hill house by her mother. I instantly fell in love with it, however it is in pretty bad shape. I am hoping to do a lot of the work, now that I have the time. I recently started working on it. It is built, and I started painting it and fixing the broken pieces on the house. Does anybody know how to replace the windows by any chance (if you can that is)? I look forward to learning from every one and hope this project is equally rewarding as it is stressful. P.S. Since I am sorta lost lol any advice is very much appreciated :throb:
